Jeffrey Epstein arrested...finally

This is long overdue, but maybe the women who were sexually abused by Epstein and many men and women will finally see some justice. Epstein was arrested in 2006 and after making a plea deal with federal prosecutors he was sentenced to 18 months in a sweetheart deal and only served 13 months. He was also allowed to leave prison 6 days a week to go to work. How did he manage such a deal? He gave up two Bear Stearns executives.

Jeffrey Epstein arrested on sex trafficking charges

The girls who were abused by Jeffrey Epstein and the cops who championed their cause remain angry over what they regard as a gross injustice, while Epstein's employees and those who engineered his non-prosecution agreement have prospered. By
More than a decade after receiving one of the most lenient sentences for a serial sex offender in U.S history, multimillionaire Jeffrey Epstein has been arrested outside of New York, sources confirmed to the Miami Herald Saturday night.

Epstein was arrested at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, according to one of the sources. Flight records show he had just flown to Teterboro from Paris on Saturday.

Around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, about a dozen federal agents broke down the door to Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse to execute search warrants, witnesses and sources said.

“We heard the loud banging and we walked over and saw all these FBI agents just pounding down the door,” a witness told the Herald.

Epstein, 66, is expected to be arraigned in federal court in New York on Monday on charges that he molested dozens of underage girls in New York and in Florida, the sources said. His arrest, first reported by the Daily Beast, comes nearly two weeks after the Justice Department announced that it would not throw out his 2008 non-prosecution agreement, even though a federal judge ruled it was illegal.

Rumors had been circulating for months that Epstein was under investigation on sex charges in the Southern District of New York. It’s not clear what instances those investigations involved, and the Herald had not been able to confirm the status of the New York probe.

Sources said he was arrested by the FBI pursuant to a sealed indictment that will be unsealed on Monday. He is in custody in New York and a bail hearing is set for Monday.

That bail hearing will be critical because if they grant him bail, he has enough money that he will disappear and they will never get him,’’ a source in New York told the Herald.

Last November, the Miami Herald published a series of stories, titled Perversion of Justice, that described the ways in which the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Alexander Acosta, worked in conjunction with Epstein’s lawyers to engineer the non-prosecution agreement — and keep it secret from Epstein’s victims, so they could not object. Acosta is now President Donald Trump’s secretary of labor.

Sources told the Herald that the indictment includes new victims and witnesses who spoke to authorities in New York over the past several months.

A Miami Herald investigation into Palm Beach hedge fund manager Jeffrey Epstein's sexual pyramid scheme targeting underage girls– and why he's a free man today.

I read the Miami Herald story when it came out and was appalled by the deal that the federal lawyers made with Epstein's attorneys. It looked like his attorneys were in charge of the deal not the federal prosecutors. If the rumors were true and people like Bill and Hillary Clinton were involved with him then I can understand why he got such a sweet deal. The Miami Herald wrote that Bill would ditch his secret service and fly to Epstein's island where there would be sex parties. Prince Andrew was said to have been involved with Epstein as well as Donald Trump and other people in government and lots of other well known people.

From the link to the article about the Bear Stearns executives:

Emails also show then-Miami US Attorney Alexander Acosta — who is now President Trump’s secretary of labor — and the lead prosecutor in the case agreeing to help Epstein’s high-powered defense lawyers try to contain the scandal sparked by his 2006 arrest in Palm Beach, according to the Herald.

“On an ‘avoid the press’ note…I can file the charge in district court in Miami which will hopefully cut the press coverage significantly. Do you want to check that out?” Assistant US Attorney Marie Villafana wrote in September 2007 to defense lawyer Jay Lefkowitz, a former colleague of Acosta’s at the Kirkland & Ellis law firm.

Once the pact was struck, Epstein — who’s hosted former President Bill Clinton, British Prince Andrew and others at his own private Caribbean Island — pleaded guilty to two felony prostitution charges in state court, even though the feds identified 36 underage girls who accused Epstein, then a powerful pal of Clinton and Prince Andrew, of sexually abusing them in his Palm Beach mansion between 2001 and 2005, the Herald said.

Although he said he couldn’t “discuss the details of the case,” Acosta said the decision not to file federal charges “was a broadly held decision” in his office.

“As part of any plea, it is not unusual to have an indictment that says these are all the places we can go, yet at the end of the day, based on the evidence, professionals within a prosecutor’s office decide that a plea that guarantees that someone goes to jail, that guarantees that someone register [as a sex offender] generally, and that guarantees other outcomes is a good thing,” he said.

Why did the US attorney go out of her way to keep the press from finding out about the plea deal? Could it have been because she was protecting someone important? I believe that was exactly why she did that.

Statutory rape usually comes with years long sentences not months long with the stipulation that people are free to leave prison so they could go to work or anywhere else. One Sunday a cop saw Epstein outside the prison and asked him where he was going. "Just for a walk."

Let's hope that the other people who were involved with this horrible saga are also brought to justice. This includes the woman who targeted the girls and everyone else who went to Epstein's parties no matter who they are.

I don't know if any of the people there knew why the guy was holding up that picture, but if they did and still reacted like that then I'm lost for words.

Twitter is abuzz with this news, but lots of people are using it to attack Trump instead of focusing on Epstein. Will the Sunday talk shows cover this? Bets?

@Centaurea here, months ago, that talked about how the Russia gate stuff might lead to more information about Epstein and the Clintons.

Alan Dershowitz, who has also been implicated in the Epstein stuff, has adamantly stated that he does not agree with HRC being charged with her illegal activities, even though he thinks that the Russia stuff was an attempt to overthrow Trump. IMO, the only reason for his objection, given his views, must be to avoid exposure for his activities with Epstein.

Don't worry, according to Christine Pelosi, plenty of Democratic 'faves' will be going down too.

Not sure why Pelosi calls people she knows to be pedophiles 'faves', nor how she can advocate for speaking out about abuse with a straight face while at the same time implicitly admitting she herself knew all along about her 'faves' and never said anything.

No clearer proof that Dem Illuminati are not nearly as bright as they think they are.

She's talking about the Democratic Party's "faves" here; and yes, it's my (and Pelosi's) understanding that there are several such who may well be indicted in this, including Slick Willy himself.

But Pelosi almost certainly doesn't know "all about her 'faves' "; she merely has the same suspicions, on the same grounds, as the rest of us do.

It's that pesky requirement for direct evidence coming back to haunt us all again!

@FuturePassed and the usual MSM sources most of us read as well as, quite likely, the type of gossip she would have heard being in the well-connected position she's in as the daughter etc. In other words, no personal knowledge, just hearsay.

As to Dem faves, call me naive but I find it very unlikely politically conscious and savvy BC was involved in something so notorious and clearly illegal that would have involved numerous witnesses and people who would have thereby had the goods on him. Especially after going through a year of having his sex life investigated during Monica. Ditto for HRC in coverup mode and for savvy atty Alan Dershowitz. Jeffrey Epstein himself is another matter.

@Not Henry Kissinger there was a story here re "Dem faves" linked in various ways to JE prior to Christine Pelosi's tweet. I also indicated she was well-positioned as daughter of Nancy, certainly to receive gossip and hearsay, but it may be more than that, or none of that if she is merely referencing said prior press accounts of linkage. We don't know.

I posted to remind about not rushing to judgment to convict people in the COPO based on unchallenged press reports and social media accusations, specifically in reference to the Dem faves or Dem non-faves (e.g., Dershowitz, depending on your pov) who have been publicly mentioned as being somehow connected to JE. I thought this was clear, the notion of people being entitled in a democracy to a fair shake, their day in court if necessary. I am not a big fan of convicting people based on mainstream media allegations or insinuations, or social media gossip. Basic notions of justice in a democracy -- and I would have thought it unnecessary to have to defend this principle here.

Last post on this thread. Enjoy your day.

he was having sex with under aged girls. Well known... and as people have said here more than once Bill and Hillary flew with him to his private island and went to the many parties he had at his homes.

As to Dem faves, call me naive but I find it very unlikely politically conscious and savvy BC was involved in something so notorious and clearly illegal that would have involved numerous witnesses and people who would have thereby had the goods on him.

Whether either of the Clintons were involved with the pedophila or not they were aware of it and yet said nothing to the authorities. And as I stated in one of my comments here when Anthony Weiner was arrested the NY FBI found most if not all of Hillary's emails on Weiner's laptop and said that there were lots of pictures on it that involved sexual abuse of children. They wanted to go public with their information, but were threatened into silence by Obama's attorney general Loretta Lynch.

There are many very important and powerful people said to have been involved with Epstein over the years he was doing that and so far no one has come forward to the authorities. Read the Miami Herald articles and see how this sordid ordeal was covered up by the US attorney general during Bush's tenure.

Ditto for HRC in coverup mode and for savvy atty Alan Dershowitz.

Ahem...Dershowitz was Epstein's lawyer in 2006 when he got his seeet plea deal of 18 months for statutory rape that was pleaded down to prostitution. BTW. When Hillary was just a young lawyer she defended a guy who raped a 13 year old girl and did some shady things with the evidence and got him off which she then laughed about.
I sometimes wonder why I include links in my essays when it's clear that people don't read them. It'd sure save me time by not doing it.

@Not Henry Kissinger Cernovich wins court battle to unseal Epstein records

Today the Second Circuit Court of Appeals strongly suggested it would order the Epstein records unsealed after hearing arguments from First Amendment lawyer Marc Randazza.

The Court signaled its intent to unseal the records with what’s known as a “show cause” order. A show cause order is a legal term of art that roughy translates to, “You had better give us an excellent reason to change our mind.”

The Court’s full order is available here, and reads:

Our precedent clearly establishes that “documents submitted to a court for its consideration in a summary judgment are – as a matter of law – judicial documents to which a strong presumption of access attaches, under both the common law and First Amendment. Accordingly, it is hereby ORDERED that the parties show good cause why the Court should not unseal the summary judgment motion, including any materials filed in connection with this motion, and the District Court’s summary judgment decision.

Congress is studying a bipartisan bill to crack down on Defense Department computers after a watchdog group found the Pentagon’s network ranked among the top US ISPs for sharing child porn.

Bipartisan bill aims to tackle rampant child porn sharing on Pentagon computers

Last year, an investigation by the National Criminal Justice Training Program found DOD computers were among the top networks nationwide for peer-to-peer sharing of pornographic images of minors. DOD's network ranked 19th out of 2,891 computer networks studied.

To prevent such widespread abuse going forward, the "End National Defense Network Abuse Act" would "crack down on this activity by upgrading the training and technical capacity of military criminal investigative organizations to confront the misuse of DoD computers, facilities, and equipment," according to a press release.

"The notion that the Department of Defense's network and Pentagon-issued computers may be used to view, create, or circulate such horrifying images is a shameful disgrace, and one we must fight head on," said Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D–Va.), who co-sponsored the bill with Rep. Mark Meadows (R–N.C.).

Congress has known for at least a decade that child porn trading on Defense Department computers was a problem. Immigration and Customs Enforcement identified 5,200 people “subscribed to websites that were known to contain child pornography” during 2008’s Project Flicker investigation, including hundreds of individuals “affiliated with” the Defense Department, some of whom even used their government email addresses and military post boxes to register on the offending websites.

While a handful of the offenders caught in Project Flicker received jail sentences, thousands more – up to 80 percent of those identified in the ICE report – did not, as “combating child pornography was not one of DCIS’ investigative priorities,” Spanberger and Meadows lament.

@dfarrah From the Wikipedia profile of A.A.:

While leading the Civil Rights division, Acosta allowed his predecessor, Bradley Schlozman, to continue to make decisions on hiring.[25] A report by the Inspector General and the Office of Professional Responsibility later found that Schlozman illegally gave preferential treatment to conservatives and made false statements to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Those findings were relayed to the office of the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia,[17] but Schlozman was not prosecuted.[25] While it put the primary responsibility on Schlozman, the report also concluded that Acosta "did not sufficiently supervise Schlozman" and that "in light of indications [he and Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Sheldon Bradshaw] had about Schlozman's conduct and judgment, they failed to ensure that Schlozman's hiring and personnel decisions were based on proper considerations."

If this doesn't support the concept that Acosta believes in two-tiered justice, then what will support it?

This includes the woman who targeted the girls . . .

I've watched YouTube videos of footage (satellite?) of the supposed island and read the Miami Herald series. Knowing what little I do know about abuse victims and methodical tactics used in order to control them, I just wonder if "the woman", who I think was actually a minor when she first crossed paths with the creeper, wasn't threatened, even indirectly, with a one-way ticket to the island, and how many examples of others had to be used in order to gain her compliance.

Just to be clear, I'm referring to the young girl, supposedly a minor at the time, who is pictured with Slick Willie on Epstein's plane. She was blond. She's now a mother and maybe still a wife living in another country. If there is another woman referred to in the quote, then I've got the wrong one.

Also, I wonder how the kos koolaid kids are defending these people. Anyone who believed any of it was a tinfoil hat wearing rethug when it came to anything bad about their D gods. she is said to have been the women who would entice the young girls to the parties with words that were far from what she was actually hiring them for.

On Wednesday, a federal appeals court in New York ordered the unsealing of up to 2,000 pages of documents that are expected to show evidence relating to whether Epstein and his partner, Ghislaine Maxwell, were recruiting underage girls and young women as part of an international sex trafficking operation. Maxwell, 57, has never been charged.

Read more here: https://www.miamiherald.com/news/state/florida/article232374872.html#sto...

This was an international sex trafficking operation and I don't understand why other countries were not going after Epstein and people from their country. But then there are the rumors of so many high up government officials from lots of countries involved in sex trafficking and it being run by powerful people. This is one reason I read so many of the Q stories. They covered the many people that were said to have been involved in this. Hopefully gulfgal will weigh in since she too followed this and has more information than I do.

Why? The same reasons that Epstein got a wrist slap in the U.S.--the high and mighty are implicated in the UK and many other nations. That's why.

@Deja

to see how they are covering it. Most of the comments are linking Epstein to Trump. However, a few did bring up Clinton, but of course he was never into under aged girls or during that time he was impotent because he had heart troubles and his medication made him so.....

I'm upset that so many are just trying to tie this to Trump and Acosta because it is so much bigger and deeper than that. It's that people turned a blind eye to this because of who Epstein was, is and his ties to people of influence and money.

Two Americas need to become one.

@snoopydawg so many people want to pretend Trump and his policies are an aberration and won’t hear otherwise. I hoped a Trump presidency would maybe make people look at what’s been going on but of course they’ve made it into “look at what Trump is doing” rather than “look at how we got here.”

@Dr. John Carpenter

Trump is not an aboration of the way things are done in this country. He just took the mask off our callous and cruel policies.

Here's a good article on the debate the media is having over this:

Friend of the Clintons or Trump’s pal? Media war erupts after Epstein’s arrest

Billionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein’s arrest on fresh sex trafficking charges has ignited a media war, with outlets on each side of the spectrum rushing to tie their political opponents to the notorious pedophile.

A rich and connected man, Epstein rubbed shoulders with presidents, business moguls, Hollywood stars, and even British royalty. In the wake of his arrest, partisan media outlets jumped at the chance to tie their opponents to the disgraced billionaire.

Left-leaning Newsweek called Epstein a “longtime friend” of President Donald Trump, while Raw Story called him a “Trump pal.”The Independent described him as a “former friend of Trump,” while the Huffington Post highlighted a 2002 quote by Trump calling Epstein a “terrific guy” who likes his women “on the younger side.”

After news broke on Saturday, the right had accusations of their own. In a mirror image of the left’s coverage, PJ Media called Epstein “Bill Clinton’s billionaire friend.” Fox News also described him as “friends” with Bill Clinton, while the Gateway Pundit went a step further, claiming without evidence that Epstein flew Clinton to “Orgy Island,” a private island off the coast of Puerto Rico where the billionaire allegedly carried out much of his abuse.

A host of conservative commentators on Twitter also shouted the connection.

People have know for years that Bill ditched his secret service detail many times and hopped on Epstein's plane to go to his island. The Miami article even discussed that, but for the media this is just a game to put the blame on their political opponents while not talking about the many lives that this ruined.

Clinton’s presence aboard Jeffrey Epstein’s Boeing 727 on 11 occasions has been reported, but flight logs show the number is more than double that, and trips between 2001 and 2003 included extended junkets around the world with Epstein and fellow passengers identified on manifests by their initials or first names, including “Tatiana.” The tricked-out jet earned its Nabakov-inspired nickname because it was reportedly outfitted with a bed where passengers had group sex with young girls.

It's being spun on ToP that Bill only flew on Epstein's plane for his foundation and not to his island...riiight.

Epstein will be charged with one count of sex trafficking of minors and one count of conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of minors—which could put him away for a maximum of 45 years. The case is being handled by the Public Corruption Unit of the Southern District of New York, with assistance from the district's human-trafficking officials and the FBI.

Several of the billionaire's employees and associates allegedly recruited the girls for Epstein's abuse, and some victims eventually became recruiters themselves, according to law enforcement.

“The justice system doesn’t seem to respond to the victims in this case. It seems to favor those who have the most money and power and influence.”

Your recollection of other girls caught up in this Deja were right. The DB article has lots more information than the others here including interviews by some of the women who had been involved in this when they were younger.

because someone on ToP mentioned it. But it's also the same FBI department that told Comey that they found lots of Hillary's emails on Weiner's laptop and that they made many of them sick. There were said to be lots of emails pertaining to child sex on it. Comey didn't bother to investigate that and the reason he wrote congress that letter about them was because the NYC FBI wanted to go public with them. I think that they were threatened into silence by Lynch. Something about if they did then the cop that choked Garner would be prosecuted for it.

Disgusting! This is why I think it's more probable that Bill is going to be tied to Epstein over Trump. But there are lots of rumors involving him too. Ugh. I need a bath.

Ken Starr was one of Jeffrey Epstein's defense attorneys during his first plea deal back in 2008. I remember Starr was such a celebrity with the Religious Right when he was investigating Bill Clinton in the 1990's. I wonder if the Religious Right know that Starr was instrumental in getting a rather sweet deal for Epstein.

Still, there are plenty who will wonder how the self-proclaimed Boy Scout managed to go to bat to get a sex fiend off. “Many lawyers would say that they pass no moral judgment on their clients, but I’m not sure that Kenneth Starr can plausibly offer that excuse,” said Joe Conason, editor in Chief of the National Memo, who co-wrote the book The Hunting of the President. “As for why Starr would represent Jeffrey Epstein, you will have to ask him—certainly not because he thought it would improve his reputation. Then again, perhaps he assumed nobody would find out.”

@snoopydawg The only rapist, child or otherwise, I have flat turned down was a man I represented in a divorce, and I won custody for him of his beautiful 14 year old daughter. Well, Dad of the Year raped her. By the time I visited him in jail, he had made a full confession, and also told me details. I told him I thought he needed an attorney who had some distance from the victim. He got a court appointed case.
A couple of years later, I represented his brother, and he adopted the girl.
Otherwise, I have managed to represent about a dozen. Only 1 serial rapist. He was an 11 year old. That was the last juvenile case I would take as a courtesy to the Court. They would call me in emergency hearings, appoint me for the duration of the case, and I told the Court to take me off the fucking list. The child made a special request to be allowed to say good bye to his dog before he was taken into the custody of Child Protective Services. Those were my exact words. The little boy got to say good bye to his doggie.
I would take a case involving stuff like this, and do due diligence, but if I did, he would be right out in the open, no deals cut to keep important names out of it. If my client goes to jail, so does everybody else.

@karl pearson the Religious Right have been exposed for the rank hypocrites that they are, so it's entirely likely they won't care or will dismiss the allegations that might link JE with DT. And yes, Starr was well known in the 90s, that 4-5 year fishing expedition into everything Bill Clinton did since high school. Well known by Dems as being the insufferably smug Cotton Mather of modern times.

As to legal representation, it's up to each defense lawyer what line they draw, but generally it's a good thing that lawyers are encouraged by their rules of ethics to represent even the most damned accused, else it would be justice by media allegation and twitter trial.

From what I've read, there's way too much damaging info out there--like the flight logs--that link her philandering husband to this Dude. And, the Island.

I've speculated, in the past, that WJC's womanizing (in the Era of #MeToo) would probably discourage her from running again in 2020. Even without the possibility of being drug into this awful scandal.

At least, I hope it'll be a deterrent.

and his ties to both Clintons. Both of them flew on his plane to his private island and a few times Huma Abedin went with Hillary to it. Epstein is well connected to lots of powerful and well known people in DC, NYC and other places.

But other outlets are saying that Trump praised Ep for his taste in underage girls.

He did say that about Epstein and he was accused of raping a 13 year old girl. She was one of the accusers before he was elected. I've also read that he kicked Epstein out of Maralogo when he saw what he was doing to an under aged girl. Lots of stories being flung around, but the ones about the Clintons are true as far as I know as is Trump saying that about Epstein. This was known before the election. But yes if you see a felony committed you are supposed to report it in many states. This is why people were so upset about Epstein's plea deal. Read the Miami Herald article I've linked to in the body of the essay. Read the other links too if you want to know what exactly happened.

I'm waiting to see what happens during the trial. Unless Epstein gets bail.

Supposedly the staunch and upright Republican women voters were disturbed about Nelson Rockefeller's divorce and remarriage to "Happy" Rockefeller. Therefore, he got the boot and the Republicans turned to Goldwater in 1964 and Nixon in 1968. After that, the liberal wing of the Republican party was dead. Interestingly, these same women voted for Ronald Reagan in 1980, who was a divorcee. If the taboo of divorce had not existed in the 1960's, I believe Rockefeller would have been elected and we wouldn't have the right wing nut jobs we have today.

@ what seeing what you desire to see.

I haven't seen Trump in every single situation. But I did see him genuinely angry once at some presser (I believe in the oval office), and some chief of staff was coughing and sneezing around him. Trump was very sharp in tone, told the guy rudely to get out of there several times, and had furrowed eye brows, and kept his back to the guy. The newscaster said that Trump is a germaphobe.

Trump looked indifferent at the rally; but people can read anything into anything.

Trump banned Epstein from his Mar-a-Lago estate “because Epstein sexually assaulted an underage girl at the club,” according to court documents filed by Bradley Edwards, the lawyer who has represented several Epstein accusers. That claim has not been confirmed by Trump or Mar-a-Lago.

@dfarrah But here, in the state of Texas, it is a felony to fail to report a felonious act.
The duty of a citizen to come forward to report a crime is codified in the Criminal Code.
In Texas, such a failure to report, unless there is a death threat involved, makes you, a non-reporter, a party/accessory to the crime. It subjects you to the same criminal prosecution as the perp.
Banning is good for Trump's business.
Turning a blind eye to crime makes Trump a ...fill in the blank.

@on the cusp question to get more information. I saw no info above that states that Trump did not report; all I saw were inferences and assumptions. Believe it or not, I like to find factual information. Just because people on this site say something does not make it correct. I've seen enough bs and cherry picking from both sides not to be skeptical.

And you get all huffy.

I have not read anything about Trump not reporting the incident, and I merely asked for info.

So, who reported the incident?

SD above says that Trump saw the incident. Pardon my skepticism on that one. I'll check around for that info, too.

Frankly, I would ban probably 90% of the population from juries since people are so biased, and that includes people on this site. Too many people judge based on their fee fees.

sexual activities. I'm betting that everyone who were close friends with him or went to his many parties knew what he was doing. Trump admitted that he knew Epstein liked very young girls and I can't imagine that others didn't know.

Whether Trump caught him in the act or just saw him harassing a young girl the fact is he didn't alert the authorities about what he knew about him. Nor did anyone else who knew about him. As I said somewhere on this thread Epstein had a bed on his plane where there would be orgies including young girls. This was well known.

@on the cusp that Trump either likes Epstein enough to want to hold onto the friendship or, more likely, appreciates Epstein's power -- which seems to be the power conferred by the possession of blackmail-able material. Which boils down to affection and/or fear. This is probably how Epstein gets away with so much.
