STOP ALL WAR, it's the only way to stop the madness

I'm posting this for those that unfortunately couldn't
postpone their own Memorial Day.

Linked below is the US Army Memorial Day thread of what
the Army has done for you, I don't believe it went the way
it was intended to, to bad you Army bloodsuckers.

Why it really touched me though was my wife and I volunteered
for the Chicago Ruck Walk this weekend. It had people from all
walks of life attending and while I'm totally anti-war I couldn't
help but be overwhelmed by these people and what they walked for.

"Each mile counts for one veteran that commits suicide a day," said Hernandez, referencing a 2018 report from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs that found, on average, 20 veterans die by suicide each day.

is that honoring vets while marking the 20 vet suicides a day (i'll bet there are more than that)...is kinda a tough needle to thread. please correct me if i'm mistaking your meaning, ggersh.

if i tried to answer the Q 'what (and whom) is it good for' honestly, i'd go a li'l bit crazy, so i'll not make the formulas, cuz we all know them already.

@wendy davis these people must be going through hell both
while doing the fighting and now the consequences
of that fighting.(Not sure if fighting is the correct
adj.)

They are kids, same age as my kids, on the one hand you
had to admire them for having their buddies back but on
the otherhand at least for me, why join, but then I'm
not in their shoes.

for some young uns in c. springs where our daughter lives, they join because of the pay and signing bonuses. re-upping claims to have even more benefits and bonuses, but 'free college' seems to have been by way of a mirage.

Why, golly, it's good for war profits!! General Dynamics, for one, reported full-year earnings from continuing operations were up 15.3% to $3.4 billion in 2018. BOMBS AWAY!!

New Year's Day
Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday - the day to ignore racists
Washington's Birthday (Presidents Day) - too many Presidents, costs too much money to have both, must combine
Memorial Day - was remember how bad war was, now "honor the troops"
Independence Day (4th of July) - was celebrate the formation of the country, now blow off things, imitating war
Labor Day - the day to ignore "right to work" types
Columbus Day - finally fading but you know what it's about
Veterans Day - was Peace Day, now "honor the troops again"
Thanksgiving Day - I've seen posts saying we "should thank the troops"
Christmas Day - distribute consumer goods, also maybe send gifts to the troops

The United States has spent nearly $6 Trillion on wars since 2001. Let that sink in for a moment.

Now let this sink in on top of that. Our Congress critters keep telling us that we cannot afford healthcare, free education, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, infrastructure updating, environmental and clean renewable energy programs. Every one of these programs provides a positive result for the American people, whereas endless war does not. Plus many of these programs are also jobs programs providing living wage jobs.

For example, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers, the cost to bring American's infrastructure up to standard is now $4.59 Trillion. This is a lot of money, but certainly less than the cost of war and results in a far greater benefit to the citizens of this country than endless war which is a black hole.

How has serving impacted you?”

Tweet after tweet after tweet, people used the opportunity that the Army had inadvertently given them to describe how they or their loved one had been chewed up and spit out by a war machine that never cared about them.

“My daughter was raped while in the army,” said one responder. “They took her to the hospital where an all male staff tried to convince her to give the guy a break because it would ruin his life. She persisted. Wouldn’t back down. Did a tour in Iraq. Now suffers from PTSD.”
-

“I’ve had the same nightmare almost every night for the past 15 years,” said another.
-

“Someone I loved joined right out of high school even though I begged him not to. Few months after his deployment ended, we reconnected. One night, he told me he loved me and then shot himself in the head. If you’re gonna prey on kids for imperialism, at least treat their PTSD.”
~

“After I came back from overseas I couldn’t go into large crowds without a few beers in me. I have nerve damage in my right ear that since I didn’t want to look weak after I came back I lied to the VA rep. My dad was exposed to agent orange which destroyed his lungs, heart, liver and pancreas and eventually killing him five years ago. He was 49, exposed at a post not Vietnam, and will never meet my daughter my nephew. I still drink to much and I crowds are ok most days but I have to grocery shop at night and can’t work days because there is to many ppl.”
-

“Chronic pain with a 0% disability rating (despite medical discharge) so no benefits, and anger issues that I cope with by picking fistfights with strangers.”
-

“It’s given me a fractured spine, TBI, combat PTSD, burn pit exposure, and a broken body with no hope of getting better. Not even medically retired for a fractured spine. WTF.”
-

“I’m permanently disabled because I trained through severe pain after being rejected from the clinic for ‘malingering.’ Turns out my pelvis was cracked and I ended up having to have hip surgery when I was 20 years old.”
-

“Bad back, hips, and knees. Lack of trust, especially when coming forward about sexual harassment. Detachment, out of fear of losing friends. Missed birthdays, weddings, graduations, and funerals. I get a special license plate tho.”
-

“After coming back from Afghanistan…..Matter fact I don’t even want to talk about it. Just knw that my PTSD, bad back, headaches, chronic pain, knee pain, and other things wishes I would have NEVER signed that contract. It was NOT worth the pain I’ll endure for the rest of life.”

There are a lot more

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

Yes, there are LOT more. I followed the link to the U.S. Army Twitter site and started reading. I almost wish I hadn't. Caity is most certainly not blowing it out of proportion. I had to stop reading as I got something eye and couldn't continue...

I'm surprised the Army hasn't shut it down. Maybe they have by now.

@travelerxxx

It started with this tweet and I guess the army thought that everyone felt the same way as he did. Surprise!

After they read the tweets from people whose lives they ruined they posted this one.

Whoosh... here's an idea. Treat people seriously after they return and if they were wounded or suffering from PTSD treat them. I remember during Bush's tenure that people who were suffering from it were just loaded up with meds and shipped back out. This used to be against regulations IIRC because it meant that people weren't still qualified to serve. Some people said that they had severe injuries, but were sent back anyway. Plus the army lowered their qualifications for people with criminal histories and histories of mental illness because there weren't enough troops to fill the ranks.

The republicans always say that they support the troops, but they cut benefits and other things that would help them. McCain was one of the worst as is Lindsay Graham. But none of them have any problems sending people off to war. I wish Butler's War is a Racket was required reading in high school. Military worship has to stop. I've never understood why families that served never talked their kids out of following them.

Under the dictionary entry for hypocrite, there should be photos of both McCain and Graham.

Interestingly enough, I've worked with a number of vets who well know this. They also know Sanders has tried to support them and come to their aid. It's one reason I'm no longer surprised when a (purportedly) right-winger tells me how much he admires Bernie.
