Hello folks...
This essay will be permanently posted as a link in the sidebar in the hopes that it will help new members grok what we are all about here at c99p.
I'm very busy so if anyone asks a question that you can answer please do.

thx
I am so glad to be here. Love the depressing 'news' reports and have been a fan of blues since I cut my teeth on Nick Olgiilvie as a young 'un. I gave my doll to his daughter my doll when I was 18. I forget what they called her then. Really could not have landed in a better place. Worked at Tastey Freeze for a dollar an hour and hung out at their house in the evenings with the music.

Thank you
for posting this, very useful. I have been transitioning away from the GOS for some time, old habits a hard to break but the time has come to break up.
It's lovely to see this growing, and see familiar folks, Sara R, what a treat.
Is it okay if I make a suggestion? I would love it if each diary listed (like on the home page or the Community page) had a short excerpt, maybe the first couple of lines from the diary, so I could get a sense of what it's about. Titles are often cryptic, which is okay, even good, author's prerogative, but it would be cool to get a peek so you know what the topic is. Maybe it's just me, little bit of short term memory probs, sometimes I can't remember if I've read something or not, LOL!
Thank you so much for being here.
Hi sillia...
We initially had a preview, or more commonly called a teaser, for the first year and a quarter of the site's history. But a few weeks ago when we had the current membership explosion, folks were complaining that the essays were scrolling of the page too quickly, so we removed the previews to truncate the Community Content and Front Page so as to allow for more essays and that they may remain longer on the list.
If there is a consensus from the community to return to the preview format, we will accommodate that judgement.
I understand,
and I can see the point. I guess I was thinking if the teaser was short enough, it could tuck in to the left of the icon pic and not make the entry any longer--but then I know nothing about the formatting and such, so I don't know what's possible...
Carry on, this is great!
Hi Johnny, my 2 cents worth
the way it is now makes the site look boring. The Front page, esp, should look more lively when newcomers arrive. A picture is worth a thousand words, as they say.
can the front page break be separate from the community content break?
Even the community page should look more lively than just a bunch of titles. A few lines would help with that.
Never be deceived that the rich will allow you to vote away their wealth.-Lucy Parsons
Wow, thx Johnny!
That was a quick response.
I can see that where I have been putting the break is fine for the front page, but it is way too much for community page what with all the new members writing diaries (which I love and am definitely NOT complaining about, its just that adjustments must be made).
I think the idea to have the break fit in with the writer's avatar is a good one for the community page.
Of course, I am completely ignorant as to the tech issues involved in admins setting the breaks, or even if they can be set separately for the front page and the community page.
For now, I'll set the breaks for Hellraisers to include the quote and see how that works out. I welcome feedback on this.

Never be deceived that the rich will allow you to vote away their wealth.-Lucy Parsons
Hi JR...
I can't separate the Community Content from the Front Page, it's the same format for both.
I agree, I like the preview much better also, but you can see how it increases the length of the page. Setting the teaser break a bit smaller will help, especially for folks that read here with phones and pads.
Understood, thx for quick response, JtC
Going forward, I'll set the break for HJ right below the quote.
Never be deceived that the rich will allow you to vote away their wealth.-Lucy Parsons
OMG!
I feel. . .LISTENED to! Such a fast response, I can't believe it. Thanks, I like the new format very much! But I won't be offended if you have to change it back, I know there are many considerations.
Thank you!
Thanks
I've just arrived with the exile and I really like the site. I finally tuned into the Evening Blues yesterday and appreciate all the effort that goes into that.
Looking forward to good conversations and maybe some real progress as well. I appreciate the new home.
A quick question, how do you add multiple tags in a dairy? Use enter key or commas or what?
Thanks again!

Hi Lookout...
for multiple tags use a comma between each word or group of words meant to be a tag.
will do
Thanks for the info.

another question
I noticed most of the quoted material fills a light blue box. I like the way that lets you know it is a quote. How do you create that effect?
Thanks for the help.

Highlight the
text you want in the box then click on the box with the quotation marks (5th box from right just above where you enter text).

Hello everyone!
I'm new here, how do we know if someone responds to a comment?
"Obama promised transparency, but Assange is the one who brought it."
^^ That's the wish list item I vote for!
(he'll never know i responded or up-voted him, & i guess that's two items i'd love added to the 'my comments' page, notice of votes or replies, but i don't do drupal ...)
The answer to the question is; you go to your 'My Comments' page and click on a recent comment and see if there is a response.

We all have wish lists for this site. Please donate to this site. The folks here are doing it on their own with their own money. If we benefit, we should help put dinner on their table. I don't have much. I'm trying to fund Bernie and now c99 (I've finished funding my grandson cuz he has a good job now). Please give. It will help us all get our wish list requests filled.
Thank you.

Soooo . . .
What are the odds we'll be able to, in the future, see a "Replies" column in our comments list? You know, so we don't have to click on every single comment we write to see if anyone replied? Some times we leave a lot of comments, ya know? We can be a bit chatty.
I do like the recent comments on the left side of all pages!
How do I get my avatar displayed with comments or stories?
Hi Alligator Ed...
click the "My Account" link in the header at the top of the page, that will take you to your user profile. Click "Edit" and you'll go to your account settings where you can change your password, upload an avatar image and fill out optional fields that will display in your user profile.

Long time - hope all is well!
all is well, how are you and your brood?
Left my old job in retail of ten years because like with all good things, money and greed ruins them. So I moved on and am now working in a REAL medical marijuana dispensary. Loving it! Very sobering though
Daughter activist has changed her major and will be staying nearby and going to a state uni. So both kids are with us.
Been improving on my health since arthritis medicines were killing me. My vertigo was all pill related. So am totally clean of all pharms and trying to save my gut. Each day I'm getting healthier. Even bought a kayak and a teardrop camper and I'm camping!
Now to just get my son into Special Olympics. He's got anxieties about people seeing his legs.... but he's still with the local hockey team and tonight we might be swept out of the first round of playoffs... OH NO!
My estranged father was badly beaten - to the point of seizures now and I'm dealing with the VA bullshit and trying to help. It's been surreal. While this was going on, the community I had come to be a part of was falling apart. Reason I haven't been in the comments or threads much. Too much on my plate.
BUT the kids are super stoked about Bernie Sanders. We will remain true to ourselves and we won't be silenced or TONE IT DOWN.
I never liked "Kos" but I loved his community. I'm just done with the bullshit. There's too much at stake.
AND one day I will make it to your neck of the woods. Take care my friend.

Wow. Sorry you have been dealing with an overfull plate!
But I guess we all are. Nice to see your handle here.

I dream of a kayak
But all by myself? Hoisting onto a car? Still on my bucket list.
I find water flowing by its own meditative state, on to the sea. Very peaceful or scary in winds. Respect.

You just reminded me
I need to get my kayaks back from my friend, who has been storing them for me for way too long. I need to get my roof rack put onto my car first; there are no connection points on my current car, only on my beloved old pickup, which needs a lot of fixing and restoration before it is drivable. I miss kayaking so much!

Imagine: a progressive web site where I can say "If Bernie isn't the nominee, I'm registering Green and Voting for Jill Stein" without getting banned. (and now a sense of trepidation comes over me)
You are in good company
Joe from The Evening Blues has already advocated for Jill Stein.
Bassically you need more hair.

it's a name from a long time ago ...
I was registering for a guitar forum and all the user names I was trying for were used already, so I typed in musicalhair figuring that would not be taken without thinking about why that would be and ... well here I'm is.
Hey MH
My favorite periodical is Vintage Guitar and I have real bad G.A.S. Tube amps too. We'll have to discuss some time.
The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. - Friedrich Nietzsche -
G.A.S. what a dreadful disease!
I have more fuzz boxes than I know what to do with, especially since I'm mostly a nylon string player or when electric I basically play clean without any really distortion at all most of the time. Phasers, choruses, envelope filters (I love those things), delays, I love the "shoegazer" sound. I have 2 55 W Rivera amps, a 50 W Marshall, an Ampeg Jet and a Blues Cube not really overloaded with amps I could use like 3-5 more. Don't get me started on bass guitars ...
Amplified G.A.S.
Carr Hammerhead, Dr Z Maz18NR, 2*Fargen Bastage (1*EF86,1*12AX7), Nick Greer Mig15, VOX AC15, a Bell & Howell voice of the theater converted to Fender Deluxe, Winfield Cyclone, Hawkins Cock Fight, THD Univalve, and a 22W with 6V6s and pentode front end (I think it is based on an old Supro).
We'll save guitars, or my sickness will show. I still need a nylon string. Unplugged, I love my Larrivee SD03 in mahogany/Italian spruce.
I don't use any pedals and play clean most of the time. Tele through the VOX, Fargen, Cyclone, ... If I want fuzz P90s through the Bell & Howell or anything and the Nick Greer.
The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. - Friedrich Nietzsche -
I have a couple of Riveras, a Marshall 1/2 stack
and some smaller amps (2 fenders, an Ampeg), an SWR bass head with accugroove cabinets (sound great regardless of that silly switch in the back that made him go out of business), too many guitars-- but no Ricks so I'll have to add more before selling ... nah, I ain't selling any. I'm be homeless defending them with my life in the end.
A hearty 'welcome,' musicalhair! You got it right--
you can declare (or not) your vote for any candidate without reservation, or as you said, without a sense of trepidation.

Hello world.
I'm here. I'm still there, too, but vewy vewy quiet. About all I do there now is post an occasional (for me) comment, post an occasional community fundraisers diary, and do my shifts when I can. This week I've been way too sick to do them, alas. Anyway, here I am and happy to see so many names I recognize. Obviously I use the same name here as there.
For the most part, I like the UI. I haven't found a lot to mislike, just a few things missing as shown in others' comments above. Washington state has done our duty by Bernie; now it's back to phone banking and on to the LD caucus as delegates.

Progressive to the bone.
I'm a millennial and you don't have to "feel sorry for me."
Those of HRC supporters can choose to judge my demographic, waxing poetic about “the way things used to be.” They tout the benefits of their generation to me even while its shortcomings fall upon my shoulders.
They probably walked barefoot to school every day, uphill both ways, in the snow. That’s an achievement; I won’t take it away from them. But as I watch workers whose 30-year loyalties were repaid with reduced pensions and early layoffs, I can’t help but try to avoid their mistakes. I like to wear shoes when I walk to school, and I’m going to do it. The opportunity is there; why wouldn’t I take it?
As Robert Reich put it: Hillary is “the most qualified candidate for president of the political system we now have. But Bernie Sanders is the most qualified candidate to create the political system we ought to have.”
Supporting him doesn’t mean I'm naive or that I fail to understand the realities of our time. I represent a change in goals, in philosophy, and in lifestyle. I both accept that change and demand that it happen in a way that leaves us all better.
I'mWithHer- I choose: He's with us!They thought they could bury us ... they didm't know we were seeds.
yet another GOS refugee 10+ years for me
I just couldn't take it any more....for me the final straw was the "upgrade" that totally screwed up the site but hey....everyone has their limits.......
Clinton will not get my vote....I actually reregistered to vote for Bernie here in the Baja but...If clinton does take it, I'm a Gary Johnson voter.....I've always been an unaffiliated left libertarian who voted Democrat.....This time I will not support any of the repubs obviously but also will not vote clinton just because she's a dem or a woman....I'd love to vote for a woman for President, but it needs to be someone I feel is good for the country.....
I do not see that with her......
Still a major RKBA supporter, still support the entire Constitution, still in Baja Arizona and still love it....Truly hope this place is more realistic as to what can be accomplished and what can not in the political climate we inhabit.
If I'm going to get the GOS name calling and such I'd prefer to get it out of the way so I can move on....I won't deal with authoritarians any more...and the clinton clan personify authoritarianism almost as much as the cruzers do....sorry if this comes off as defensive but I've been insulted too many times by my supposed fellow leftists to be amused by it any more....

Cashing the Gates
During the era of Democratic blogs, the Democratic Party has lost most of the individual state gubmints as well as Congress. But it did manage to capture the office of POTUS in the aftermath of one of the most disastrous periods in American history. And Ms Clinton has the early polling lead against the least qualified candidate for President in the last 75 years. So... yay?!?
Food stamps now at 45 million users, it's the hottest year ever for the umpteenth time, and several slices of the white working class now have decreasing life expectancy... but hey, America needs optimism! And it's definitely not inducing any cognitive dissonance for me to say that and urge you to vote for a candidate who says big changes like universal healthcare - or even $15 per hour wages - are as flat out impossible as superluminal travel...
Welcome Tiggers thotful spot...
great to have you with us.
tried to write an essay
couldn't get past the Tags. What is that?
I've a purely technical question, Originally a DU Bernie Orphan
(Hillary obsessed posters drove off their Bernie supporting non neoliberal members in order to cope with cognitive dissonance unfortunately)
Resulting in my current membership as a Jackpine Radical, I am unfamiliar with how one formats a picture in one's signature line here, My preferred habit is to leave the avatar blank as few sites allow my avatar to remain animated and so prefer instead to use the sig line for a similar purpose.
On DU I was able to leave blank the avatar and use my prefered one (for well over 15 years now) in the signature portion instead.
On JPR I was able to achieve the latter, but blank avatars are automatically filled by a comical monster and no option is available to leave it blank, to see what I would like to reproduce simply view a typical post of mine and note the bottom of the post.
http://jackpineradicals.com/boards/topic/clintons-biggest-backers-want-a...
If this is possible please advise as to how, I did look in the FAQ section first and can not find the proper technical section to ask this question so please forgive my asking here.
Is this what you desire, Dragonfli ?
I want to see what happens when I drop your GIF into the avatar spot. I will switch back in a moment.

Conclusion: Computers are stupid
Not stupid, just simple minded
It tried to do as commanded, but the html code doesn't get that resize includes animation apparently.
You have been extremely helpful and friendly, I now know what do do, I have to play with resizing with my software until I get what I want, but will have to finish later as I must leave now.
Thanks a Bunch!!!
Yes, but perhaps smaller, I used code to accomplish it before
But it did not work on this case, can you supply the correct means of doing so? Perhaps the codes work differently or I was using the wrong approach. I sized it at JPR simply by dragging the corner squares that appeared when I inserted the image code and link which undoubtedly added size code parameters to my initial insertion.
Hi Dragonfli and welcome...
your animated GIF wont resize here without defeating the animation.
Here's a link to a site where you can easily resize the animated GIF and then re-upload it here.
http://gifgifs.com/resizer/
I can resize it myself using photoshop/image ready, that still
leaves my question on how to insert and center my image in my signature line, is the secret using html brackets and code rather than bb code and brackets? I also want to place the smaller handwritten signature directly below it, both graphics are my original design using photoshop, imageready and a wacom tablet.
@Dragonfli...
to reply to a comment use the "Reply" link directly below the comment you are replying to. Otherwise if you use the comment editor at the bottom of the page you will be adding a comment to the original essay and not replying to the comment in question.
I too tried to resize your GIF in Photoshop and all that does is create an snapshot of the first image used in the GIF. Can you resize it in Imageready? Wacom tablet, huh, are you a graphics artist?
The easiest way to display your resized GIF is to upload it to an image hosting site such as Photobucket, Flickr, etc. and then link to it in your signature using HTML.
To access your signature editor click the "My Account" link at the top of the page and then click "Edit". That will take you to your profile page where you can edit many personal preferences.
You need to use imageready for animated gifs and
uses the save as option, but it works. recently resized
