Good Funkin' Friday!

Count off and split into tribes.

The only thing I am on board with is that Fredo is too funking stupid to know what he is doing.

Just sayin'.

Thankful to be old, and hopefully miss the end of humanity.

Oh well.

Have a great weekend. The thread is OPEN.

This is the store that I like and use. There are several cannabis dispensaries in this one small town. This story is about one of them. New York State Failed to pass legalization of cannabis in the budget process this year. Effing idiots!

I lost a CA friend recently. He was 99.5 years old. In WWII he was the pilot of a bomber plane and crew that flew the full 25 missions from England hitting Germany. Not many of them made the full 25 without getting shot down. When I met him he was in his 60's and retired from the phone company. He loved wind surfing and spent most of his free time doing that. He kept it up until he was in his late 70's. Then a shoulder surgery put and end to that recreation for him.

Thought you might enjoy a different flavour of music. From the NZ music scene, a blend of jazz and hip-hop …

Although Scott's not the only local rapper taking influence from smoky jazz grooves, he has taken it further than most would dare; many tracks here hover around six or seven minutes. This is not lightweight fluff and there's no doubt it will be a challenging listen for those not hip to occasional bursts of jazz indulgence.

@Azazello The Kakapo is a great conservation success story. Hopefully they can do the same with the Night Parrot (different species) in Oz, which was also long thought extinct. The islets offshore NZ turned out to be critical refugia as the pigs, cats, rats, and other introduced vermin did not get to them. Ground nesters like Kakapo or Kiwi were doomed on the big main islands. Thanks for the pointer and airplay AZ.

Cancer-causing chemical taints water after deadly Paradise wildfire

The drinking water in Paradise, Calif., where 85 people died last year in the nation’s worst wildfire in a century, is contaminated with the cancer-causing chemical benzene, officials said.

Officials believe the contamination happened after the November firestorm created a toxic combination of gases in burning homes that got sucked into the water pipes as residents and firefighters heavily drew on water sources to combat the fire, the Sacramento Bee reported Thursday.

Officials say that may explain why benzene, which has been linked to anemia and leukemia, has been found in tests at various spots, rather than from one source in Paradise, which was largely destroyed.

The chemical occurs naturally in fire; is part of crude oil, gasoline and cigarette smoke; and is used to make plastics, synthetic fibers and other products, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

WTF I never knew benzene occurred "naturally in fire", however I did know it "is part of crude oil, gasoline and cigarette smoke; and is used to make plastics, synthetic fibers and other products".

“It is jaw-dropping,” said Dan Newton of the state Water Resources Control Board. “This is such a huge scale. None of us were prepared for this.”

Sonoma County bans hemp cultivation, citing need for tighter regulation

Sonoma County supervisors on Tuesday narrowly approved an immediate ban on the cultivation of hemp, a move aimed at preventing the proliferation of a minimally regulated crop, a close relative of marijuana that lacks the psychoactive punch but can be far more profitable than wine grapes.

The measure passed on a 4-1 vote, with Board Chairman David Rabbitt opposed and four votes needed to put the ban in place before state registration of hemp growers starts in about two weeks.

That state oversight it expects carries minimal restrictions on cultivation of a plant that looks and smells just like pot.

Thankful to be old, and hopefully miss the end of humanity.

Depends on your definition of "humanity."

Just being a gratuitous wiseass. Lots of evidence of that humanity abides. Example: Someone stole the prosthetic leg of a little kid. Replacement cost: 20K supposedly. (Why the hell does it cost so much? It's mostly plastic, ffs.) Very soon after a local news program announced that, more than money was raised to replace it.

On the other hand, whoever stole the leg seems sub-human. It's not as though you can take a prosthetic leg and stick on it someone of any age for whom it was not made.

One of the best things about posting on this thread is wishing everyone an enjoyable weekend and that is what I wish all of you.

Is "You can't trust the Mueller report at ALL!" EXCEPT the part where it says that Russia interfered with the election. That we can take on faith!

I have seen this kind of logic before. In Premillennialism Dispensationalists... you know, the folks who literally believe that Jesus will beam them up to heaven, giving them a complete pass on that whole DEATH thing. They believe that you have to skip around in the bible, ignoring certain things, but paying EXTREME attention to tiny little details that have zero meaning on their own, but if you look at them in the right light and squint... it all makes sense.

It's faith now. Deal with it. We've got a cult running the show, and there's no way that they'll give it up as long as the cult leaders keep control. You can scream all you want about their lies, but until the people are willing to compare ACTIONS and rhetoric, they ain't gonna see the truth.

You can't make a man free. They have to do it themselves.

And cessation of the bodily experience is not really tragic to the individual experience, as it seems inevitable. So, therefore, finding yourself alone at death's door may be easier to introduce your (ex) self to the new community of free souls. Or something.

for me. i'm afraid that i find the notion that there is any existence, whether of consciousness, or self, or spirit, or any other meaningful thing at all, outside of the corporeal experience, to be ... quaintly wishful.

all that is me, is an outcome of my brain's physics. when it goes, i go, never again to be, just as i never was before.

regardless, i think i will not resist -- particularly if i am, as i expect to be, alone.

Interesting. Pretty sure the pilgrims fleeing their england were running away from something bigger than themselves. They could not change the current structure. Running away from their establishment created a void. Filled by coercing the indigenous to believe like they.

Kinda weird. If one is in a new and strange territory, would it not make more sense to accept the locals (who are not fleeing) than to change them? Rhetorical.
