"Bernie Doesn't Care about Sexism and Racism"
Who thinks Bernie made this decision to go on Fox News with members from daily kos in mind?
.@BernieSanders is doing a Fox News town hall. But why?

Trust me, I know Fox News. I know who they are and I know the role that they are playing. On the other hand, during the last campaign I did a town meeting with a fellow named Bret Baier who did it pretty fairly. He did it straightforwardly, and believe me, we went over the ground rules before and they kept their word. So to me it is important to distinguish Fox News from the many millions of people who watch Fox News.
Bernie Sanders to appear in Fox News town hall meeting
Fox News Channel says that Sen. Bernie Sanders will appear on a televised town hall on April 15, making him the first Democratic candidate to venture onto Fox for this type of event in the current presidential cycle.
....
“The DNC believes that we must reach all voters, including (the Fox) audience,” said party spokeswoman Xochitl Hinojosa, who is among the handful of aides to party Chairman Tom Perez coordinating 2020 debate plans. “Candidates should do what they need to do in order to engage these voters directly.”
Surprise and dismay for Bernie finding a way to get his message to people who voted for Trump's economic policies, but have become disillusioned after he too hasn't kept his campaign promises.
His decision was met with surprise and dismay among some liberals, many of whom let their opinions profanely be known online.
Carolyn Fiddler, political and communications strategist for the progressive website Daily Kos, called Sanders’ decision to do another Fox town hall “unfortunate and dismaying” and said it’s certain to upset many Daily Kos followers. The site earlier this year gathered more than 100,000 signatures on a petition that urged Perez not to select Fox News as a debate partner during the 2020 campaign.
“I don’t know why he would lend his considerable presence to a network that routinely pushes sexist and racist tropes about progressives and his supporters,” Fiddler said.
The liberal watchdogs Media Matters for America, which has urged advertisers to avoid Fox’s opinionated shows, said the timing of Sanders’ appearance is bad.
“If you want to go on Fox, fine,” tweeted Angelo Carusone, Media Matters’ president. “But wait until after the ad sales period is over. If you go on Fox between now and May, they will use your appearance to help neutralize all the advertiser blowback.”
(??)
Guess what website has spent the last 4 years calling Bernie a sexist for how he spoke to and about Hillary? Who constantly brings up that Bernie wrote a book that had rape fantasies in it? That says that he can't connect with blacks? That says that Bernie is a Russian puppet because he honeymooned in Russia 5 decades ago?
Town halls are attention-getters for cable networks and can draw big audiences. CNN has already held eight such events for the 2020 nomination fight and has five more scheduled. MSNBC has only held one town hall, with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, but candidates have appeared for interviews on MSNBC programs.
Has Bernie been offered a chance to do a town hall on CNN or MSDNC? No? Why not?
If you are interested here's a diary against Bernie going on Fox
This was unconscionable by Bernie.
We just had to organize a debate boycott, and no sooner does everyone agree to boycott the debates, he turns around and goes running to Fox News.

Here's one in favor of him going on them.
comment: “The Daily Kos” is not “afraid of Fox News” and the whole construction of the diary title sounds like a kindergartener daring a friend to eat a bug.
history lesson: boycotts only work if there is unity. Go read up about the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and then imagine how the activists felt about the people who rode the buses anyway.
they weren’t “afraid” of riding the buses, they stopped riding the buses voluntarily to make a point
.
The comment thread becomes an echo chamber about who's voting or not voting if Bernie gets the nod or Tulsi does...
Same dude as the comment above..
Bernie isn’t the bigot whisperer. He doesn’t have special powers. He’s not going to change anyone’s mind who tunes in. He’s there to undermine the democrats debate boycott
.
Ehh?

Didn't Hillary do a Town Hall on Fox in 2016?
Does this mean that even Hillary had more campaign sense than the current DNC?
"The liberal watchdogs Media Matters for America, which has urged advertisers to avoid Fox’s opinionated shows, said the timing of Sanders’ appearance is bad."
Well, if David Brock / Markos and their associated minions say it's bad, it must be a bad idea.
Not.
Everything he does
will spur controversy in order to marginalize him. We know the game. I’m hoping the electorate has become more savvy too.

Keeping an eye on the think-tank lab rats
...is probably a useful exercise for pre-determining election propaganda trends. I'm glad that someone is collecting and analyzing the data. I'm sure this analysis will find its way to the authentic Left coalition and their participants in the US.
Any candidate who wishes to become president of all of America should certainly be heard by all Americans. That includes Americans who watch mostly Fox news.
IMAGINE if you woke up the day after a US Presidential Election and headlines around the the world blared, "The Majority of Americans Refused to Vote in US Presidential Election! What Does this Mean?"
Eggs-actly!
Remember when Obama went on Fox and talked to the country? I wish I'd put this in my essay:
This country has been divided into camps to keep us fighting each other instead of the government goons that are stealing us blind and robbing us of every thing that should be ours to give it to the rich and corporations. The greatest example is the hundreds of millions that Bezos was going to get to build in NY? I read one article that said that was why we threw lots of tea into Boston Harbor. The British were making sure that their products were sold over people who had come here. Something like that... but giving huge subsidies to corrupt at the expense of mom and pop shops only keeps them above every one else.
People need to find a way to shuck their propaganda manacles and see what is really happening to us. Like the military is not fighting to defend us, but to steal other country's resources. They make all the money while the military families live close to poverty except for the top military dawgs who get all kinds of perks from selling out their lower ranks.

Using the wrong meaning of words
...is the latest propaganda technique in use by the media-intelligence agents at the media monopolies. In 2019, only a handful of people in the US know the difference between Progressive, Left, Liberal, and Democrat. This is to blur the reality that there is a Left in the US, with a very different ideology than the other three. Progressives already sacrificed their principles to the Democratic Party and they are nothing but me-too Democrats, now.

Maybe somebody should do a poll on DKos?
I think it's because of who Markie's backers are
As talked about in Mark from Queen's essay, kos has his fingers in lots of think tank pies. He worked for Hillary's PAC in between elections and who knows if he ever stopped. Didn't Hillary give the Young Turks $20 million just before they changed how they reported things? Amy Goodman got $1 million from the Ford and Carnegie foundations and Rachel gets $10 million a year for blowing Russian smoke up people's arses. So maybe some one made kos an offer he
didn'tcouldn't refuse? There are periods over there when every front page essay has a petition in it or an email option and we know that he sells them to whomever asks. I used to be a good lil petition signer back before I learned that congress just laughs at them.

Reading some of those comments, good grief, those folks take themselves so seriously. As if everything in politics revolves around them. "How dare Bernie appear on FOX after we boycotted them?!" And that quote about "it's going to upset a lot of people here at DK".
Oh, well. I guess they'll have to be upset.
You know who else takes offense at any and all disagreement, and demands that other people tiptoe around so as not to upset them? Personality-disordered narcissists.
As loud as the people at DK are, the more I observe, the more I believe that people with their mindset are in a very small minority. That's one of the things that's giving me hope for the human race, and even for the USA.

No one will mourn them.
On to Biden since 1973
I'd bet the farm that many people would tune in
to see Sanders and remember him when he is the alternative to Donald Trump on the ballot. I honestly can't think of any reason that this is a bad idea on the part of Bernie Sanders.
It bears repeating too that a lot of people didn't vote for Donald Trump - they voted *against* Hillary Clinton.

Guess how much most Americans care about which network interviews a politician?
ETA: My concern would be how FOX treats him. Last time, he was a little-known Senator from sparsely-populated Vermont, competing with Clinton. They had no incentive to treat him badly. Now, they know he appealed to members of their base last time around.

he is even smarter, and preserves his integrity.
I agree that this is different territory than before, even more propagandised and fixed. All the traditional media seems to becoming a more dangerous place. The stakes keep growing higher, so you have to wonder when it will reach a place of no return. Or has it already? If it hasn’t than there’s still room for progress, to some degree.
IMO, mass media, being owned in great measure by only
five conglomerates, has been a lost cause.
Teddy Roosevelt opposed monopolies, on the ground that companies competing with each other would give consumers the best products and prices. However, it was left to the D of J to enforce antitrust laws; and, as we all know, some administrations had different priorities. In addition, instead of being an flat out ban on monopolies, Roosevelt's idea somehow morphed into anything goes, so long as the D of J approves it.
Moreover, the D of J often settled with the companies rather than prosecute to the bitter end. ATT's total monopolization of long distance calls back in the day was achieved by ATT offering to spin off its local operating companies, which were losing ATT money anyway, because so much of the local operating company functions back then were dependent upon expensive human labor--installations, repairs, etc.
The deal was so much in favor of ATT that, when the judge who had been asked to approve the settlement asked the D of J to tell him the terms of the settlement, the attorney representing the D of J in court said he would defer to counsel from ATT. He just could not bring himself to do it. (This I know from a relative who had just started working for ATT back then.)
I think--but am not sure--that it was the Reagan administration that eliminated the same or similar business test and replaced it with a dollar amount. IOW, if, hypothetically, the New York Times wanted to acquire the Los Angeles Times and the Boston Globe, no one paid attention anymore to the fact that they were all newspapers--and all then left-leaning newspapers at that.
Rather, the D of J looked--if at all--to how much money was involved in the acquisitions. And, of course, the dollar amount kept being raised. I don't know how high the dollar amount has to be now, but I would bet that it's much higher than it should be.
Anyway, it's probably more profitable for each of the five conglomerates to brainwash the public in favor of the establishment than it is for them to worry about what consumers want from a newspaper or a broadcasting network. So, the idea that they are responsive to consumers is, in all likelihood, DOA and probably has been that way since most of the nation's media was in the hands of fewer than 20 companies.
If any any industry should not have been allowed to fall into the hands of five conglomerates, it was news media.
Oh, and, AFAIK, there's nothing but money preventing further mergers and acquisitions, so that a single conglomerate would own all print and broadcast media. Jeff Bezos already owns the Washington Post. My guess is that he will acquire more.
As for Bernie, I have the same hope as you expressed, but confess to some disappointment in how little his campaign seems to be doing differently from 2014-16.

Those people have lost whatever was left of their damn minds. "Unconscionable"? Bwahahahahaha that place should be called Daily Cinematics.
Now that I'm more composed, I have some questions:
1. Bernie is routinely smeared by the TOP staff writers and community members. Why would he give a shit about them and their tin foil hat lair?
2. Is anyone over at TOP so easily influenced that one appearance on a huge network makes or breaks their opinion? Or more pertinently, is what Carolyn Fiddler is saying, that they are that dim?
3. Independents are not a minority of voters. Independents watch Fox. Are they going to remember the candidate who didn't stay in a comfortable echo chamber? Maybe look at that favourably?
4. Who here doesn't think that if Hillary Clinton had gone on Fox for a town hall that she wouldn't have been praised for bravery and groundbreaking?
That's an interesting point ...
This is what TOP makes me do, go to bat for FOX
I'm not sure of today's ratings, but for years, FOX outnumbered CNN and MSNBC in viewership. Like it or not, there are a lot of voters who tune in, and he isn't going on FOX to announce that he embraces and agrees with everything broadcast on that network, so I don't know why everyone at TOP is breaking out the fainting couches and smelling salts.
MSDNC only over took Fox because of Rachel
and her Russia Russia Russia Russia Russia Russia Russia coverage night after night. But since the Mueller report was released she has been dropping viewers like flies. The first night after her viewership was down half a million.
She has become the Glen Beck of MSDNC. If she had been at Fox during Obama's tenure she would have signed on to Birther Gate.
There were problems with running a campaign of Joy while committing a genocide? Who could have guessed?

We're on the same wavelength
Our Rachel Maddow-Glenn Beck comments were posted around the same time
I hope that Maddow's career tanks; her Serious Journalist mask just fell off with a thud, and if she wants to peddle infotainment commentary, I hope webcast is her only outlet and that she quickly disappears.
I mentioned this in another thread, but Keith Olbermann disappoints me more than Maddow. I still can't believe he hosted a show actually called THE RESISTANCE. That even surpasses Glenn Beck in embarrassing spectacles in my estimation.
It's somewhat adorable how
It's somewhat adorable how Democrats will rant about Fox being propaganda (which it is) without looking in the mirror and realizing all the propaganda that they digest (CNN, MSNBC, etc.).
But then, what they watch isn't propaganda, it's just the news. It's real. All that other stuff is just fake news.
Rachel Maddow is right up there in Glenn Beck territory
And I couldn't agree more with your comment.
Reading the comment threads at TOP from election night 2016,
who wouldn’t recall their own feelings from that time and feel compassion for all the pain and confusion?

On the other hand, who can fail to see how the seed was already being sown, blatant propaganda already being injected, taking advantage of people’s emotional vulnerability at that moment and encouraging them to blame Russia and scapegoat Bernie?
People at TOP seem to be, to this very day, still locked and frozen in the pain of that moment, having, as the saying goes, “learned nothing and forgotten nothing.”
Hmm...
I mean it’s not like it’s Election 2020 and he’s blowing off states he needs to win to hobknob with big Republican donors or turning his back on traditionally Democratic states to campaign in states where a Dem doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell. I mean, who would be dumb enough to do that?!?

Seriously, though; I live in the Southwest. Blue Party's taken to treating everyone who isn't "white" as "black" (AKA "People Of Color" - makes me wanna found a small town named Color and become its mayor just so I can stand on a stage and say "PEOPLE OF COLOR, lend me your ears...!" or something), and that's going to bite them in the ass from all kinds of directions.
The whitewashing of Silicon Valley makes me furious as well - we're talking about a place where the airport is run by Sikhs, and everyone from baggage-claim to car-rental has a turban and a dagger, and suddenly they're talking about it like it's a country-club in Alabama or something. What kind of dumbshit party just suddenly demonizes and gaslights one of its own strongholds, and why is New York still sacred (wanna talk IdPo? Let's talk how the further west you are, the more the corporate media treats you like a footstool)?

I remember watching Bernie go into Red territory

Then why do black people like him so much?
https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/329404-poll-bernie-sanders-country...
Of course, that was back in 2017. Maybe black people have now decided they don't like him. Let's see:
Sanders, an independent who caucuses with Senate Democrats, is most popular among Democrats (78%), as would be expected, but a majority of independents (54%) also view him favorably. Meanwhile, more than twice as many Republicans view him unfavorably (69%) as favorably (26%).
Sanders' ratings are mixed among whites, with nearly half viewing him favorably and half unfavorably. But, consistent with their more Democratic political orientation, nearly two in three nonwhites (64%) have a positive view of Sanders.
Bernie's numbers appear to have gone down with independents and working-class white people; my guess would be that's because of his consistent support for shit like Russiagate.

Bernie & CNN Townhall
I saw Bernie on CNN doing a townhall in Feb. 2019. Wolf Blitzer hosted it and I didn't see one smile from Wolfie. Here's TYT's report of it. The title is, "Did CNN Sabotage Bernie Sanders' Town Hall?"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9AiH_IsjDU
Well now that puts to rest people's concerns over whether
Fox would be fair and balanced with Bernie now doesn't it? Now that you posted this I do remember people talking about that interview. Wolfie kept asking Bernie's thoughts on reparations. Have the other candidates addressed this yet or is it just a problem Bernie has to solve?
Thanks, Karl.
