Tulsi Update: March 2, 2019

I've been finding it fascinating to watch my favorite candidate, so I'm going to every once in awhile post an update on Tulsi Gabbard's efforts. I'm hoping most of the stuff I post won't have been posted here before, but if there is some duplication, please accept my apologies.

Tulsi has been campaigning in Iowa and New Hampshire recently, as well as appearing on a number of television network shows over the past few weeks. After being attacked on MSNBC's Morning Joe and The View on ABC, she appeared on FOX's Tucker Carlson who surprisingly treated her with respect.

The "left-leaning" media is completely trying to erase Tulsi from the picture. Take a look at this story from Fivethirtyeight.com, which is now a part of ABC News. Notice the only candidate or potential candidate missing? Yep, it's Tulsi. The establishment must be totally frightened of her. (Incidently, in the image it looks as though they are attempting to push Bernie off the page, and note Kamala Harris is in an unusually small position compared to the prominent heads of Biden, Bloomberg, and O'Rourke. I guess Kamala's campaign is not looking so hot after all the gaffes she and her campaign have made.)

Tulsi will be on a CNN Town Hall on Sunday, March 10, 8:00 PM ET, so take note of that.

Alexis Ohanian, founder of Reddit, had an interesting comment recently that social media interest in Tulsi's campaign is mimicking the early interest trends of Obama and Trump in their election campaigns. Perhaps a positive sign there.

This is a video from a year ago, but highlights her answering a stupid question very intelligently.

Unconfirmed information from comments on Tulsi's Reddit says that she is currently about 20,000 donors short of the 65,000 individual donors needed to qualify her for the Democratic debates, which begin in June. (I am a donor, FYI.)

She has sent out a number of Tweets recently supporting striking locomotive workers in Erie, PA; requesting global cooperation on water shortages and planning for the future of water resources; highlighting the scientific consensus on climate change and the need to do something about that; as well as her continued request to end our regime change wars.

Feel free to add additional notes below!

This is something that, in my humble opinion, we c99ers need to recognize and appreciate, perhaps even more than we already do. Daily Kos lost most of its best writers and news reporters in the aftermath of Kos' pronunziamento of March 15, 2016 -- and nearly all of them are now here doing what they did there.

post all you want about Tulsi.
I had hoped that at least one candidate would say fuck it and tell the truth. She's cursing more than others.
But I had also hoped at least one candidate would say fuck it and run on an independent ticket. Yes I know it's a losing cause but I refuse to vote for any presidential entity that runs under the demo or repub ticket.
Thanks for your diary and please continue.

for these reports, and I don't think it's a losing cause at all. I think her personal appearances and internet activity are more important than the mainstream media blackout. If she keeps telling the truth, she just might out-run them all.

@Linda Wood of Tulsi's campaign. I personally believe that her current campaign is two pronged. First is to establish her as a legitimate Presidential candidate for the future. And second, and more importantly right now is to get her issues into the public arena.

Tulsi is speaking truth to power more than any other candidate out there right now. She is being shunned by the media because of her anti-war/anti regime change stance. For me, that shows that the PTB are more afraid of the public buying into her anti-war position than they are for the other populist positions. Tulsi has shown herself to not be afraid of crossing up the PTB. IMHO, this is what defines Tulsi as a true leader.

Representative Gabbard,

We were very disappointed to hear that you would resign your position with the DNC so you could endorse Bernie Sanders, a man who has never been a Democrat before. When we met over dinner a couple of years ago I was so impressed by your intellect, your passion, and commitment to getting things done on behalf of the American people. For you to endorse a man who has spent almost 40 years in public office with very few accomplishments, doesn't fall in line with what we previously thought of you. Hillary Clinton will be our party's nominee and you standing on ceremony to support the sinking Bernie Sanders ship is disrespectful to Hillary Clinton. A woman who has spent the vast majority of her life in public service and working on behalf of women, families, and the underserved.

You have called both myself and Michael Kives before about helping your campaign raise money, we no longer trust your judgement so will not be raising money for your campaign.

Guess Darnell didn't think that Bernie's platform would have helped more people than Herheinous' would have. Bernie was hoping to get us better health care while Her was saying that "universal health care will never ever happen!" Her was running on creating a no fly zone over Syria while Bernie was calling her out for her warmongering.

This is a great point. After all Hillary had been in congress for. ... years and got .... things passed. Something about a post office?

Hillary Clinton will be our party's nominee and you standing on ceremony to support the sinking Bernie Sanders ship is disrespectful to Hillary Clinton. A woman who has spent the vast majority of her life in public service and working on behalf of women, families, and the underserved.

The tone deafness of this is incredible. I'm sure that this dude knew how hard Hillary worked on getting welfare reform passed. Her crime bill and again her warmongering that saw more women and children go deeper into poverty, into prisons and into graves.

This is just a small part of Hillary's legacy.

@gulfgal98 Darnell Strom and Michael Kives were (maybe still are?) employed by Creative Artists Agency, the huge diversified services company based in Los Angeles. It has strong connections to the Dem Party, including representing Dem politicians and throwing megabucks fundraisers.

Apparently, Darnell Strom sent the "chastising" email to Tulsi, copying Michael Kives on it. Then Kives forwarded the whole thing to John Podesta and Huma Abedin ("ha16(at)hillaryclinton.com" is Huma). Notice his statement in the email to Podesta and Huma, telling them "Hammed dropped!" I assume he meant to type "Hammer dropped".

It wouldn't surprise me to know that someone at the Hillary campaign requested Strom and Kives to send this email. Essentially what it did is tell Tulsi that the Dem Party would not be providing support for her 2016 re-election campaign, thus "dropping the hammer" on her.

Typical Clinton and Podesta behavior, to get someone else to do their dirty work for them. I guess that's what the consultant class gets paid the big bucks to do.

If you haven't donated to Tulsi's campaign, and don't mind doing so, even a $1 donation will go towards getting her to that 65,000 donor's level so she can be in the debates. If you want to see her on that stage, it might be worthwhile.

Unfortunately neither Sanders, nor Gabbard had the nerves to create and lead a new third party. I guess for that you have to wait for sixteen year olds, like for example this Swedish girl Greta Thunberg, the teenage activist fighting for the environment

The change will come with them. Thank God for the youngsters.

@Azazello that only Tucker Carlson of the mainstream media has treated Tulsi Gabbard with the kind of respect she deserves for having the courage to stand up against the military industrial complex. For whatever possible ulterior motive that there may have been for Carlson having her on his show, he allowed Tulsi to present her views without smearing her or interrupting her with nonsensical argumentative points. I respect Tucker Carlson for this.

I find myself looking to Carlson for a conservative voice that agrees with me. Here is a piece on NATO that was impressive. For what it's worth, I consider myself to be a leftist, and he refers to the Democratic supporters of war as "the left," while I am a pacifist. But setting that aside, he's a strong voice for common sense when it comes to foreign policy.

And Tucker Carlson frequently sounds like a liberal or progressive.

The Fox people think they staunchly support capitalism and hate socialism, but they really don't - not if you listen to everything else they say. They attack the repub establishment as much as we attack the dem establishment. They even talk about the deep state and its stranglehold on the US.

capitalization changed to accommodate format change

zoebear, Colorado used to choose candidates for all offices, including President, by primary election. Then, the Presidential process was changed to caucuses. It was changed back after the 2016 primary season by popular demand. It is my understanding that this occurred for two reasons: in several jurisdictions, Bernie Dems couldn't get into over-packed caucus venues; and Colorado was still conducting primary elections for all other offices, which meant that the presidential caucuses were just duplicate public expense.

You'd think the geniuses running the propaganda outlets would have figured that out from their treatment of Bernie last cycle.

The more they ignored him, the more popular he became. Far from disqualifying Bernie, their enmity made him seem more legit. Plus, the lack of coverage actually created its own sympathetic buzz for the candidate because people perceived him as being treated unfairly.

The result was exactly the opposite of what the MSM mandarins hoped to accomplish, and now they're pulling the same stunt four years later with Tulsi and expecting something different? Good luck with that.

I for one hope the MSM continues ignoring Tulsi. It will only help her and her anti-war agenda in the long run.
