What does this remind you of?

The Democrats in Virginia have a problem.

The refusal by Ralph Northam, the Democratic governor of Virginia, to resign after the revelation of a racist photograph is threatening his party’s political fortunes in Virginia, where Democrats are on the brink of consolidating power after a decade-long rise in the once-conservative state.
...Mr. Northam’s troubles began on Friday with the surfacing of a photograph on his medical school yearbook page, which showed a person in blackface posing with another in a Ku Klux Klan robe. The governor at first acknowledged that he was one of the figures in the image, and then denied it on Saturday, all while drawing widespread calls for his resignation.

Hmmm. A badly flawed, corporate Democrat that the establishment pushed through in order to keep a progressive out, is now threatening to bring down the entire party. Why does that sound familiar?

Perriello did not do well in the Democratic strongholds of northern Virginia and Richmond. But his progressive ideas did win over the more rural parts of the state. He isn’t shy in his feelings about Trump nor in the idea that his approach to Trump voters should help shape the Democratic Party going into the midterm elections next year and the presidential race in 2020.

“It was very important for Democrats not to just address Trump, but the forces that gave rise to Trump in the first place,” he told us early in the podcast.

Yeh, I can see why the establishment decided to crush him. He had dangerous ideas.
People forget that while the Democratic establishment did a victory lap after defeating Perriello, progressives were getting fed up with Northam.

The true rationale for these progressive punches can be traced back to the summer. Shocked by Perriello’s loss, members of the left have been looking for revenge against Northam, the same way a handful of Sanders supporters sought to make trouble for Clinton after she clinched the nomination.

Comments like these look very ironic now.
But why Northam?

Over the weekend, Mr. Northam angered progressive Democrats by suggesting he would work with Republicans to design a new cost-saving Medicaid program rather than pushing to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, long a Democratic priority. The governor-elect was fiercely attacked by liberals, including Tom Perriello, a former Virginia congressman, who wrote on Twitter, “Blocking Medicaid expansion was a major reason so many Republicans lost their House seats in VA this year.”

Oh. Now it's clear.

DK new straw poll has Harris (34%)in the lead with Warren (19%)in second place. Tulsi was dropped from the poll.

Tulsi Gabbard gets a well-deserved boot.

when will the rest of the democrats realize they have a problem? Or more to the point, the voters. That's a pile of money and hope down the drain. I guess it's probably for the best to get it over with fast, instead of a drawn out full term betrayal.

THIS is it! Right here. You want to talk about privilege, let's talk about it.

How much Privilege does that establishment Dem get? He gets the right to make offensive remarks, accuse the other side of making up stuff, then change his story, and yet not be questioned by TPTB with regards to it, because he supposedly is on the "Right" side.

Consider any poor person who changes their story when accused of anything, even in the slightest detail. Who is assumed IMMEDIATELY to be guilty in such a case? This one is so cut and dried I don't think we can find a clearer picture. And yet the Democrats want to argue on it.

I do not pretend I know what I do not know.

But it is early, very early. Dems have a lot of time to left to lose to him again, which I fully expect. .

which has always been 50 years behind the rest of the state (let alone the rest of the country). Not surprised he's got "racist" skeletons in his closet.

Not that Fredneck County is much better....

Edit: Just wondering, why do these politicians who get caught out by their high-school-age antics never just say "Yeah, I was an idiot when I was younger, and I've learned better since"? Maybe because they've lied so often and so long about so much, nobody would believe them?

@TB mare that a med school yearbook could have been so overtly racist in 1984. There are lots of racists that pretend not to be, but this was raw, overt stuff with no pretense. This was 20 years after the passage of the Civil Rights Act!!

it has now become unforgivable that one did as a teenager that was stupid is an indictment of ones ability to grow and learn and change and become an adult.

Oppo Research is now GOTCHA.

And our beloved Pols are all to ready to "pounce", "seize", "indict" given the chance and the MSM is all the f over it.

You must realize that the perfect people in the world can no longer countenance the imperfect.

Eugenics anyone?

Yeah, let's do that.

@EdMass was looking at TOP where a poster was getting BOJO'd over a similar train of thought. If someone says or does something stupid, and a bunch of years later something reminds them of it, what to do? Apologizing when caught ain't good enough, too late. If you cringe about it, and tell someone about how you feel bad, is that enough? What if there was something you would have felt just as bad about, but you just didn't think of it? There's no process to wipe the slate clean.

I don't really care about Northam, he went to the right schools, made the med school cut, went into politics and ascended to neolib heaven. The best and the brightest ought to know way better than the 99% about everything. If you're not on his strata, you're just a potentially useful thing to aid in his ascending to a higher $ plane. So, off with his li'l bit racist head.

But it occurred to me that TOP is on the verge of retroactive FLAGs and BOJO's. If you look at the zero tolerance, then somewhere in years past somebody made a comment or post that wouldn't be tolerated today, or it slipped by. If there's no apology, every offensive comment could be a cause for banishment. So, I'm putting the idea out there (you're welcome Kos) check those comments and posts and start purging. Should be good for more and better democrats.

@Fishtroller 02 at how 16 or 17 long timers were BOJO'd or Timed out over this. There's going to be more people like Shirley Sherrod getting back stabbed, and TOP (haven for centrist dems) will be glad to help.
