The early fallout from withdrawing from Syria
Do you know who are the most evil, despicable, and morally bankrupt people in the entire universe? It's progressives, of course.
The reason is because they support Trump's decision to pull U.S. troops out of Syria.
Who knew that opposing imperialism and illegal wars could make you guilty of genocide?
Progressives are the worst, amirite?
Funny how you don't see articles saying how awful conservatives are that support Trump's decision. It's almost as if there's a bias against progressives.
Anyway, let's look at what's happened so far.
A convoy of Syrian Kurdish fighters has pulled out of the flash-point area of Manbij in northern Syria, close to territory controlled by Turkey, Syria’s defense ministry said on Wednesday.
...
“According to information, approximately 400 Kurdish fighters have left Manbij so far,” the Syrian defense ministry said. Their departure was in line with an agreement “for the return of normal life to the area of northern Syria,” it said. The ministry showed online a video of dozens of vehicles traveling along an unmade road carrying armed fighters, some waving the flags of the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) militia and its female counterpart, the YPJ.
Looks like that Kurdish genocide will have to wait. As the Kurds leave the area the Syrian army, not the Turks are taking their place.
The U.S. still has 3 bases around Manbij, but is supposed to pull out of those in the next four months.
We've been assured that a U.S. withdrawal could mean chaos for Kurdish-held Manbij.
And it turns out that it has caused chaos!
Just not in Manbij, and not for the Kurds.
Clashes among rival Syrian rebel factions have spread across northwest Syria, rebels and residents said on Thursday, in the latest bout of tit-for-tat fighting between opponents of President Bashar al Assad’s rule.
...Tahrir al Sham, formerly affiliated to al Qaeda, had launched an attack on Tuesday against towns controlled by Nour al Din Zinki, a member of the mainstream National Liberation Front (NLF), the rebels and residents told Reuters by telephone.
So remember that Turkish-backed army of jihadists that were about to attack Manbij and crush the Kurds? A funny thing happened. They decided to fight al-Qaeda instead.
Hundreds of Turkey-backed rebel fighters have been moved from frontlines near the flashpoint Kurdish-held city of Manbij towards the countryside of Aleppo, where battles with Al Qaeda-linked fighters have killed more than 30 people since Tuesday. The Syrian National Army, an Ankara-backed rebel alliance, which is planning an assault on Kurdish groups in Manbij, sent reinforcements to the western countryside of Aleppo on Tuesday to assist rebels there in the fight against the Hayat Tahrir Al Sham alliance, SNA spokesman Youssef Hammoud told The National.
The SNA started gathering north of the city of Manbij earlier this month before what it said was a planned assault that aims to clear the area of the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), which is viewed by Turkey as a terrorist group.
It's getting real hard to spin this into a bad thing.

Damn progressives probably won’t like this, either: ...

A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.
It ain't over til it's over.
Do progressives know that we bombed another hospital?
Why did we bomb that hospital? Because ISIS fighters were shooting at coalition forces and it was legal to do so. We got to kill the people who we say we are protecting don't you know? This is how we will make their lives better. Or something.
Remember Trump's campaign promise of killing ISIS and their families too? This is one promise that he has been keeping. The number of civilian deaths has gone up since Trump became president and he relaxed the rules against keeping civilian deaths down. I see we are still trying to win hearts and minds in our wars of terror.
I can not begin to imagine what it has to be like living in countries where the USA doesn't think your life is worth anything. How can people make decisions about that and then just go on with their lives?
Scientists are concerned that conspiracy theories may die out if they keep coming true at the current alarming rate.
The Neos spin this crap into increasingly
ridiculous and unstable isotopes of crazy. The fact is though, that they are talking to themselves, and nobody is really paying attention like they used to. The MSM has minimal influence, and no amount of word salad from Haaretz, the NYT or WaPo is going to change that.
"Obama promised transparency, but Assange is the one who brought it."
Repeated lies have a way
of sticking in public discourse. Which the polls will reflect. Therefore, it is fake true. More are rejecting the fallacies presented by MSM. Which is good. The second line of offense is the googed social connect. Folks are starting to figure that one out too. Twit, Fbook, instant awareness comes with strings, as more are finding. Also, good.

Excellent comment
Should be interesting.

The Haaretz article is kinda funny.
First, we're supposed to assume a law professor and a philosophy professor, both American, are the authorities to believe when it comes to discussing Syria. But let's look at what they wrote:
Actually an outpost is exactly what such a small force is called. A big force is called Headquarters or just The Army.
Let's keep going:
Ah, so it's America's place in this world to separate Sunnis and Shi'ites anywhere in the world where we weren't invited? Let me look that up in the Constitution.
So were the Kurds supposed to embrace the Sunnis? Or convert to Christianity? Who decides that? The Syrian Kurds chose the Shi'a, partly perhaps because they are Shi'a themselves. Should they not have a voice in this?
Partly true: it won't bring everyone on earth into compliance with international law (though as I recall Russia was not in violation of that in Syria). But it does bring the U.S. one step closer to that. Were we supposed to remain outlaws? Let me look that up in the Constitution, too.
Christ, the fucking hubris of Americans.
They may be Americans,
"Obama promised transparency, but Assange is the one who brought it."
That's almost funny
The US military is a stand-by 'trip wire' for any infractions against the oligarchy, no matter where in the word? Who gave the US military permission for that? Kinda doubt it's legal, both in domestic and international laws. Not in my name.
question everything
Codepink should start campaigning for Trump for 2020.
"President Trump should continue to stand up to the neocons and the military-industrial complex that profit from endless war by bringing these troops home as well.'
Trump the master magician has done it again
It seems like almost everyone has bought the story that he’s ending US involvement in Syria.
Never mind that he’s already backtracked on his initial 30-day withdrawal orders, and now on the reported “four months” timeframe, which they now deny and say there’s “no set timetable” for leaving.
Trump gives no timetable for pullout from 'sand and death' Syria
—
But the biggest illusion he’s created, that is going completely unnoticed, is the lie that moving some troops around the chessboard, even if he eventually does so, is the same as “opposing imperialism and illegal wars” or even getting us out of that one war.
Which is NOT happening, now or ever. Per Hair Trump:
—
Yes, he can definitely do two things at once.
He can continue the illegal wars, and simultaneously get credit for ending them.
Ahmazing.
I guess it's no surprise how many on the left jumped the gun
Did you see what Trump said yesterday. I'm tempted to post an essay about it to discuss it. To me it was absolutely amazing, the level of ignorance. Or was it something else? That's what I was going to post about. Trying to read between the lines of his bizarre rant.
I think it would be great if you post an essay to discuss it
I’ve been thinking of writing an OP about what I just noted here. It’s incredible to me, how he’s convinced so many people that he’s ending any war. It’s very much like how Obama got people to believe he ended two wars. Without ending any, and actually expanding the wars exponentially.
I confess, don’t know what specifically trump said yesterday that you’re referring to. I’m afraid to look. but now you’ve made me curious.
He can do 180 things at once.
Good comment.
How many countries is our military occupying now, 180?
We had combat fatalities in Africa. And all that the media covered was that TheRump forgot the soldier's name - not what the hell we were doing there.
Big Al, I missed it - what did he say?
Here's a link to one article.
https://www.haaretz.com/us-news/trump-stuns-with-lies-rambles-and-nonsen...
Jaw dropping ignorance and craziness
Wow, you’re right, Big Al, he’s outdone himself. Just too much.
I honestly don’t understand how anyone can look at this and not think he should be removed from office immediately, if not sooner. He’s truly crazy. I think that’s the clinical term. Scary indeed.
It was hard to pick the most over the top, but...
Oh god... I have to stop now. How is this person the president?
The question I was going to ask in
I didn’t watch the video, yet
Not sure I can do it. So far I’ve only read parts of the transcript.
But my impression is that this is the real trump. And he’s in so far over his head it’s terrifying. I’ve said before I think he has delusional megalomania, an actual mental illness in which he inhabits his own reality, and he’s the best of the best, at everything.
Just from that interview, he says he could run of office “anywhere in Europe” and that he thinks he’d make a good general. A few days ago he said he should be considered a national hero.
He compares the actual pentagon to being “like a movie” — and he compares the military generals to tom cruise, only better. He sounds like he’s 12 years old, but still has delusional self importance.
He does lie very often, clearly. But this sounds like him just desperately needing to hear himself ramble on about his greatness. Which, yes, he believes is true. (imo)
It’s also quite revealing, how they took him to this big impressive room (“with more computer boards than they make today”), and “showed him” how it’s all about Iran. They were attempting to train him, apparently.
But he’s honestly just too nutty to follow the program. He keeps veering off the path, and they have to find ways to rein him in. To whatever degree he is “challenging” the MIC/war machine/deep state or whatever, it’s in the way that a misbehaving child that keeps getting into trouble is challenging to their parents. Difficult to manage.
But with trump, his need for adoration to feed his delusions of grandeur is his big weakness. He’s so easily manipulated. I can believe that he perhaps has moments where his childlike mind sincerely wonders why we have all these wars, and maybe we should stop. He knows that’s a message his base likes. And he likes to be popular, more than anything else. So he veers that way, once in a while. But not in any deliberate way.
Because he has no core, no center, and so no way to make careful decisions, think them through, and enact them thoughtfully, as a president must be able to do.
He watches tv talking heads, reacts to everything, goes off any which way and announces new policy via twitter in the middle of the night. He changes his mind more often than he changes his clothes. I think he’s dangerously unstable.
This was why Trump is better than Hillary in my mind
The same cannot be said of Hillary. I absolutely believe Hillary is very competent at this stuff and would've made an awesome president [for the plutocrats].

I wrestled with that,
for a while, back and forth, then decided to give up on the what-ifs. TheRump is the problem facing us. HER and BO are out of the picture for now, and I'm not wasting my energy on them (mostly; can't resist sometimes).
HRC might have been marginally better domestically. She wouldn't have whipped up so much hatred for minorities and stimulated the many acts of stochastic terror and violence we've seen. She might not have been so blatant about wrecking EPA, etc. Just HER incrementalism. But she would have been much better at running the empire, with all her "qualifications", and criticizing her for killing people would be sexist. You're right, he's too nutty to run the empire AS WELL as HER, but he has Bolton for that. The empire is still going strong. The best you can say is that fewer foreigners take the US seriously. They think we're nuts.
However, TheRump is the insane problem facing us, so I'm putting HER and BO aside. He's been tremendously good for the plutocrats, and damn good at blowing things and people up. Not to mention being the final nail in the climate.
I'm not going to be like a general always fighting the previous war. Trump is the problem in front of us.
Fair enough, but it's not the previous war
It is, at best, the previous battle. The war with neoliberalism is still ongoing and both Hillary and Obama are still generals in the field on the enemy side. If you'd like, I could've said Beto rather than Hillary.

I wouldn't count Hillary and Barack out of the picture
Hillary's think tank PAC has been very active working behind the scenes with the democrats and Obama had to much fun with his power to just slide gently away. Nope. Both of them are still very active and I'm betting that Hillary is going to run again, but not jump into the race until others have dropped out.
Got a fiver if anyone is interested?
Scientists are concerned that conspiracy theories may die out if they keep coming true at the current alarming rate.
I give HER a year
Then we'll have to deal with HER again. SHE still feels entitled and aggrieved.
Right now the immediate pol problems I see are the donorcrats knocking down the upstarts, but mainly mango mussolini lurching around like a drunk and really hurting (and killing) people. How's that withdrawal going?
I already lost one bet (rueful grin), I had 5 bucks on the thugs throwing rumplestiltskin to the wolves and white-knighting the holy-roller by the midterms, so I'm prepared to be wrong again. But my father fled Europe when Hitler came to power, and I'm really beginning to empathize. I've never before seen anyone flying a flag for a politician, not even the uber-popular Nixon or Reagan, and I've got a couple purple rump rags flying right near me now. I'm scared. He really can kill someone in public and get away with it. Really bad feeling on this one.
Trump is an unmitigated disaster,
"Obama promised transparency, but Assange is the one who brought it."
Exactly. I’m glad Trump is the president to the extent that
people are no longer able to pretend the world and the future of humanity is in good hands with the U.S. system, empire, and elite managing it.
I've always said...
That I prefer my wolves in wolf's clothing. I also admire Trump for putting a pretty realistic face on America for once. Honestly, in many ways he seems like the ideal person to represent this culture.

Excellent statement,
I love the juxtaposition of your statement and your quotation from lotlizard:
So true! Trump looks like the Ashton Carter limited nuclear war plan: totally insane. The nice guy hopey changey president fostering the elimination of at least half of the American people in a limited nuclear war, not to mention the deaths of millions more in Europe and Russia, seemed so intellectual when proposed by the Obama team. Now it looks like what it is. Batshit treasonous. Trump is a wolf in wolf's clothing, as you say, and for the first time, Americans are seeing what our policies really are. Total madness.
Word salad to make Sarah jealous
That last paragraph is a doozy isn't it? He saw more computer boards than they make today? Then he channels his inner Bibi by blaming all the conflicts on Iran. I think his brain just works in mysterious ways. He sees one thing and as he is commenting on it he is seeing another thing .... and piles the new comments on top of the first one.
This really depends on who he is talking about. Stopping ISIS can be done by not supporting them anymore and getting the allies to stop doing it too. Try that and go from there. Stopping what the Saudis are doing in Yemen requires that same thing. Any bets on when Pelosi will vote again on stopping the military's support of the Saudis?
Scientists are concerned that conspiracy theories may die out if they keep coming true at the current alarming rate.
I suspect there some real problems in that
If America stopped all it's gangsterism, what exactly would happen to our economy which is, at this point, pretty much entirely based on services (meaning people doing things for other people none of whom are producing anything) or war.
If we stopped all the war, it'd be a disaster for what remains of our 99% economy.

Whew. Thanks. I think. (grin)
Lots more detail than I've seen in other sources. I like the opener: no longer home alone. Best summary: fact checkers being treated for exhaustion. Other sources I saw didn't describe the movie poster. This was much worse than I thought. Yes, Big Al, rant on it.
He has the nuclear football. If only it were like The Mouse That Roared.
He's gotta go. Soon.
Not likely.
A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.
Better. I'll have to watch it to get the context.
"President Trump should continue to stand up to the neocons and the military-industrial complex"
In other words, they said that Trump has been standing up to the neocons and the MIC. Of course d.o., you know me, I think that's bullshit and is giving Trump far too much credit to the point of actually making him sound like an anti-imperialist president.
Sounds like Codepink might have changed their tune a little. But why they said that in the first place is a mystery to me.
Because it's smart politics
When someone says or does the right thing, you don't say "We don't believe you. Prove it."
That's what people on blogs do.
You'll never accomplish anything that way.
Smart politics means giving people the benefit of the doubt in public, and think whatever you want in private.
Ah, but what have they accomplished?
There is the danger of being used to give cover
But then you miss opportunities if you always take a hard line.
That was gj. But I understand many were
A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.
Two points
A) Trump is Trump
What that means is even if he does sincerely mean it when he says something in this minute, in the next minute it may well change entirely for no obvious reason. And, of course, being Trump, the odds of him actually being sincere in anything are slim.
B) Nobody in their right mind thinks Trump is a solution to our problems
Again, Trump is Trump. He may inadvertently or through a temper tantrum thwart my enemies, but I doubt again, even if he was in this moment sincere, what happens in the next moment is nearly random.
But the fact remains, he said something I wanted to hear and I applaud what he said. I'll applaud a lot more if it turns out to be true. If it turns out not to be true then I know (lol) that Trump is a liar.

We WILL be withdrawing. One way or another
Turkey
We will leave Syria soon
I don't know about we, I don't like to include myself in that
According to the MSM...
These are "Progressive" positions.
Bomb Syria.
Bomb Afghanistan.
Bomb Yemen... Sort of. (Because Bernie is against it.)
Ban Free Speech.
Arrest and Attack peaceful protestors.
Give Money to The Democratic Party.
Get Back in Line.

I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
No, they don't support "Trump's decision",
They support pulling out of Syria. And others.
Plus, it remains to be seen what actually happens. Remember last time he said he was "pulling out".
This sh*t just got a bit more serious

Anyone read Romney's op ed?
He repeated the same points others have said. Trump has been a great president when he signed the tax bill, the repeal of the ACA mandate, the deregulations and the other things he has done that benefited the one percent. But Romney is against Trump pulling troops out of Syria. Of course he was great when he bombed Syria after the first false flag. How long until there is another false flag? Or will Israel try to pull Trump back in by doing another attack while hiding behind airplanes in the area. They have pulled this twice already.
