Potential Suggestions for Caucus99Percent

First, I want to say that I already love here. I said this elsewhere, but it's a great change of pace to actually write what you are thinking without having to worry about what pure Democratic party partisans will think about it. I would much prefer to discuss matters of good and bad policy without giving people a pass because they have a D next to their names on the ballot.

With that said, I think it would be beneficial to have a suggestion area or thread in order to help make important things on the site more visible for any future additions/redesigns/upgrades. I figured I would at least start one here; I'm admit that many of my suggestions are things that other place did well. I feel like one of the great things about this community is that it filled with people from all walks of life who probably have great ideas and I would like to make those ideas more visible.

1. Make the number of likes more visible. I don't know if I'm missing it, but it seems like the only way to see the number of likes is to go into an essay and scroll to the bottom. Similarly, I think an area noting topics that are either well liked (and potentially ones for a lot of discussion as well since you get good discussions in essays that aren't well liked).

2. I would make specific tags available for consistency. This is important because I would also make it possible to search by tags. For example, one diarist I really like from over there is Dan Bacher, who writes a lot of great stuff on California's environment. So #California and #Environment would be two tags that most of his diaries would have. The tags would be something like, the current President candidates, the two main parties, Senate/House/Governor, the 50 states and a broad range of policy topics. I would still make it so that you can input extra tags, but at least if I want to read everything on a certain subset of topics I can do it more easily.

3. Make the Community Content more visible on the Front Page. I realize there is a lot of overlap now, but things that are only in "Community Content" will be visited less if only because it's an extra page away.

4. Groups! I especially like knowing who is local.

5. I don't know if it's just my computer, but the Recent Comments section is hard to read. It's very narrow, so it pushes a lot of information downward. I think just by widening the margin, it would consolidate a lot of the information in a way that is easier to read.

Please feel free to add more or point features that I might make missed that already cover my suggestions!
Hopefully this is an acceptable diary!

There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know.

you have on your comment 10 likes or uprates. The site does not tell you who uprated your comment or anyone's comment. This is by design so we won't get into uprating tribal war games. It's fun without the blowback of rates used as a weapon. It keeps it from getting nasty and personal. There is no down rating or HRing and I hope it stays that way. Under the orange thumbs up symbol which you click if you likie, it should say how many users have voted. The anonymity bothered me at first but now I like it. It keeps me honest as I'm not going after likes and if someone doesn't agree they have to speak up and explain why they disagree or just not hit like and move down the thread.

If I go to "My Account" --> "My comments" it doesn't show that. Nor does it show if my comment has had any replies. It would be good to know that so that I can interact.

I liked the DK format of comment ... #uprates ... #replies. Gives one an indication of the interest that a comment has evinced, and hence an opportunity to converse.

Could that be done here?

who very much appreciates that you are so welcoming to other new(er) members!

It is very helpful to us, since there are so many coming in, daily.

Yes, JtC is working on a number of issues and concerns, even as he's super busy with vetting new member applications.

Again, thanks.

I love animals, I have 2 dogs, and, I love Star Trek of course. On my desk I actually have a hardback notebook with said picture on it, so inspiration wasn't far away. It was the night I was thinking of my sigline, "Progressive to the bone" came to mind while I was looking at the notebook, the rest is one-week history... Wink

1. When I go to preview my comment before posting, and then actually edit it, I don't find any "save" button. Looked all over, don't see it. The buttons under "Video URL" disappear, for some reason.
So I end up backing my browser up to the previous page, where my original text is, and I save that. THEN, apparently, I can edit and preview changes and save the changes to the actual posting -- but yeah, haven't found a way to preview and edit and save until after actually posting.

2. Is there a way to delete a comment? I read how to delete a diary, but I didn't see a way to delete a comment.

Open comment, look for Edit function below, delete text and title, save.

It will leave a marker in the title, leave that.

The font size is really tiny. The readability would improve immensely if it were a bit larger.

The text font is absolutely too tiny! I have
adjusted and adjusted settings until I
finally got it readable - only to discover
that I had made the text at other sites I visit
so massively HUGE that they were
unreadable with often only one or two
words per line.

This does need to be addressed, otherwise
eyestrain drives me away to other, more
readable sites.
