Lead Pig Donald Trump Steps on Rakes

That's right. Dipshit actually compared California to Finland and said "If California had raked their forests, there'd be no wildfires!"

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxVGar73A6w]

Asked by a journalist about whether there was any way to prevent such an event from happening again, Trump responded that he (presumably meaning the federal government) and California officials would work together on “management” and “maintenance.” He also said that officials would work with environmental groups, adding: “I think everybody’s seen the light.” (It’s not clear what he meant.)

Then things got weird.

“We’ve gotta take care of the floors, you know, the floors of the forest. It’s very important,” he said. “You look at other countries where they do it differently and it’s a whole different story. I was with the president of Finland and he said, ‘We’re a forest nation.’ He called it a forest nation. And they spend a lot of time on raking and cleaning and doing things. And they don’t have any problem. And when it is, it’s a very small problem.”

If this is the best capitalism has to offer, we're fucked.

the argument.

First off, dumb comparison. 2nd, above Norway there were massive fires this year; IN the Arctic Circle.

Now, my point. I feel as if the angles promoted by the anti-Drumpf crowd, particularly from the left side of the political spectrum tended to downplay environmental stewardship and it's impact on California.

Proper stewardship IS key. The pilfering of all the water to feed agriculture is a problem. The lack of investment in prevention is a problem.

The way this argument is shaping up in person and online seems, to me, to downplay these factors and their import. It reminds me of "Even Bill Clinton says..." or "Even Barack Obama says..." or "Even Hillary said Medicare for all is a pipe dream."

And then that shifts the frame of the argument into the Ranchers, NIMBYs, and economic supremacist's wheelhouse. Not a fan.

Take the "Rake" as a metaphor, not like Drumpf knows how to use them or anything; but take the Rake as a metaphor, and I think there is a strong point - that Democrats and Republicans in California purposefully and willfully fail to understand.

I am quite sensitive to the slippery slope of framing, and this one strikes me as a loser for environmental stewardship.

Hope that makes sense.

@k9disc Florida isn't any better off as far as stewardship goes, and it's not like Dick Snott (Or equally useless piece of shit Bill Nelson) and Ron DeReject give a shit because they're too busy making money off of the chaos.

@The Aspie Corner management to prevent wild fires through controlled burns or .prescribed fires. My home county of Leon County has been a leader in the area of using prescribed burns, much of which is due to the educations and research of the Tall Timbers Research Station. Prescribed burns do work if properly done under the right conditions and being properly controlled. This form of management works well in southern pine forests in which natural burns normally occur as a natural way of rejuvenating the forests. Even using prescribed fires can be dangerous. In a state like California which has very dry conditions for years and often has heavy wind conditions which can take even a prescribed burn out of control, there is no guarantee that will not happen. So to take one form of forest management in one locale and try to apply it to another is ludicrous. Trump is clueless about that.

budgets, i.e., the US Forest Service, National Park Service, and Bureau of Land Management. Those are the 3 primary agencies responsible for fire management in national forests, rangeland and wilderness.
Of course, obviously Trump is going by some rudimentary philosophy he's been given, probably by a Steve Bannon type, and he really has no idea what the fuck he's talking about. Fire management is a science and goes back well over 100 years in this country. There are plenty of people that know what they're doing and what to do, just like with climate science.

and sent one of the articles on this to my idiot RWNJ Trump loving step-mother, who has pooh-poohed climate change for decades. I asked her if she was going to volunteer her services in the Angeles National Forest and how many square miles she thinks she could get through in a day... Sorry, but the idiocy of Trump gives me the TDS at times as well. And I really get pissed off at all my old fuck family members who've voted us all down the river for decades but will NOT have to see just what they have brought. Sure Democrats are no better, but does that mean I should not enjoy the opportunity to ridicule an outright moron when the chance presents itself? So I took a cheap shot, not like the "other side" hasn't been doing that for eons.

OK. I shared the forest rake paragraph with a friend; we discussed how you could put TheRump's quotes into thought balloons in Zippie The Pinhead cartoon strips and no-one would notice. Then I read this weird column in WAPO:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/nothing-on-this-page-is-real-how...
A liberal zucknbook page trolling mindless conservatives, with disclaimers out the wazoo that "nothing on this page is real", and making money off it by dupes sharing it. The author profiles one of the dupes who shared his page, and at the end she goes right back to it.
By this point, I figured the author was trolling us with a yes-I-want-to-believe-it fantasy.
So I ducked the towns involved and the zuckbook page. Everything showed up. And the column was printed in many venues. It's a comment on the current world that I would even be willing to believe this column.
Either this is a really well set-up hoax, or…

We REALLY DO LIVE IN DINGBURG! ZIPPIE IS PREZ! GIMME A GLAZED!

Please, please, I'd be happy to be confused... Can we even tell the difference anymore?

Does that mean he finally gets what everybody else is going to have to eventually get? After that he went on with his usual truth mangling about climate change. I think he's worried a lot more about self-preservation, which to him means doubling down on all the lies he keeps telling his base, than the future of everybody, including his own family.
