Note to Farron Cousins of Ring of Fire: Kiss My Floridian Ass.

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5eSQY6TA7E]

Well done, Farron. Well done. With this idiotic video, you checked off every item on the list for Centrist Democrat whining as to why Gillum and Nelson lost.

Blame voters? Check.

Blame commentators like Jimmy Dore and Kyle Kilinski because they called out Gillum's right-wing swerve to appease Dem leadership and capitalist pig donors? Check.

Whine about purity and litmus tests? Check.

What this election showed more than anything is just how much of a stranglehold the far-right truly has on this shithole state. No amount of campaigning, voting or other actions would have changed this.

Take, for example, Brevard County and District 8. There's no way in HELL a Democrat would win such a district considering it's dominated by old, rich retirees and their dumbass, entitled, uber-religious kids who insist on shoving bibles up their own kids' asses before they can even begin to form a single critical thought. Do you really expect a Democrat, especially one who brags about being a hedge-fund manager, to win?

So to Farron and other assholes like him, I would like to extend an invitation to shut the fuck up, not that they'll take it. Don't tell me I don't understand Florida politics. I understand them just fine. Nothing will change as long as the lunatic racists up north and the Batista Cronies down south get the fuck out, not that such a thing is ever likely to happen.

I think they cheated If they didn't cheat, we are in far deeper shit than we realized.

I don't think they cheated. As Aspie pointed out:

What this election showed more than anything is just how much of a stranglehold the far-right truly has on this shithole state. No amount of campaigning, voting or other actions would have changed this.

And when presented with a choice between right-wingers running as "Democrats" and genuine right-wing Republicans, Floridians did what Harry Truman said they'd do: they elected the Republicans, every time.

We are in far deeper shit than most of us realize!

I got pretty drunk last night during my Facebooking and live Tweeting, but one of the last posts I wrote explains Florida:

"My most brutally honest assessment from tonight. It's brutally honest because I'm drunk and I've removed the filter. Yes, I'm going Full Magneto here:

I think it's time to completely write off Florida for a while. It has gone from purple to red and is probably a lost cause for a long while. Too many racists, old people, right-wing suburbanites, Evangelicals, pissed off abuelas y abuelos, and sociopathic rich dickholes. Maybe we just can't outnumber that amount of fucking lost cause depravity.

Florida is probably just fucked because of a weird concoction of demographics and economics. 25% Arizona, 25% Alabama, 25% New York, 25% crazy shit= Florida.

Or maybe I'm drunk and wrong. We'll find out soon enough..."

I barely remember writing that, incidentally. But yeah, it's all true.

Florida is basically Texas East Coast.

@hecate geographically it is nearly 700 miles from Pensacola near the Alabama border to Miami on the Southeast coast. If you are going to Key West, that is an additional 170 miles. I grew up in St. Pete on the west coast and I have only driven through Miami (on my way to Key West) one time. Most of the north Florida is deep red with the exception of Tallahassee. Same with Gainesville. Both areas are blue islands in a sea of deep red.

@cybrestrike yeah, I'm tapping out on Florida shortly.

Thought it was salvageable, but 10 years of fighting down here with the only victory being a watered down medical cannabis law with a corrupt system in place that only allowed like 5 big companies to even enter the market that charge upwards of 4X the cost of medicine in the west.

One thing I've noticed is that it's shit education system has lead to a population that largely lacks critical thinking skills and is woefully ignorant in far too many areas.

I'm heading back west next YEAR, probably as soon as my wife completes her BSN.

I really wanted to love this state, it's a beautiful place, but a terribly corrupt one, and they are literally running it into the ground.

Hope I can find some RW sucker or NeoDem to buy my house.

I'd feel guilty selling it to an actual progressive...

(apologize for any typos or formatting issues. Doing this flat on my back and on a phone, ain't moving too good recently lol)

until Hillary Clinton and the rest of the neoliberal caravan showed up. If Gillum had said, no thanks, I believe he might have pulled out a victory. But he did embrace the neoliberals. Particularly Clinton had a devastating effect upon his poll numbers right after she showed up. I really doubt that Jimmy Dore or Kyle Kulinski had any effect upon voters so I believe that Farron Cousins is dead wrong about that and is just lashing out.

Gillum's campaign made a lot of mistakes that added up in the end. If Gillum had simply trusted his own instincts instead of listening to the Democratic Party, he would have been better off.

Personally I found the voting on some of the Constitutional amendments puzzling. Florida used to (or maybe still does) have a law that any proposed amendment could only address one issue and that was not the case with a number of amendments on the ballot. I fail to understand how off shore drilling has anything to do with vaping, but they were both on the same amendment. I studied the amendments and was still confused as hell. Despite challenges to that effect, only one proposed amendment was struck from the ballot.

Aspy rightly cited one of the biggest problems with voting in Florida and that is rich retirees come to Florida for both the weather and lack of income tax and then they do not want to pay for anything. They got theirs and the rest of the state be damned. We saw that in the votes on several of the amendments which either severely limits the state's ability to raise taxes or caps the tax rates on property. Without an income tax which is the most equitable form of taxing, Florida must rely upon property taxes and user taxes. With the current system of property taxes having multiple exemptions available to certain homeowners, and now the new caps on none homesteaded property, there is going to be some hard times in the future for all Floridians when the state is unable to provide the necessary services and maintenance of current infrastructure.

Also, like many states, we do have our share of hyper conservatives who will vote for anyone and anything with an R beside their name. And then there are the Cubans who are very conservative. But soon the old guard abuelas will be gone and hopefully that voting block will no longer remain a solid block.

On the plus side, voters did restore full voting rights to felons who have served their sentences. This was something Charlie Crist had done when he was governor. However Rick Scott rescinded those rights when he became governor. Also, Floridians voted to outlaw greyhound racing, thus joining the majority of states which have already done so.

@gulfgal98 Amendment 6 really bugged the hell out of me because it allows judges to stay on the bench until the age of 75. It's almost like it was supposed to be a trade-off for Marsy's Law.

Come to think of it, the only thing that didn't pass was the expansion on the homestead exemption.

This whole election cycle disgusted me. I'm sure 2020 will be a hell of a lot worse.
