Iran Launches Ballistic Missiles Into Syria Against Terror Camps East Of Euphrates

It's a huge development in an extremely volatile environment: overnight Sunday Iran launched multiple ballistic missiles toward Syria against targets east of the Euphrates river.

Footage released through official state channels show missiles launched by Iran from its Kermanshah region in western Iran towards Syria, targeting ISIS positions east of the Euphrates in revenge for the September 22 attack on a military parade in Ahvaz, which killed 25 and injured scores more.

However, the United States will no doubt interpret the action as highly provocative as the US Army maintains bases precisely in the broad region targeted east of the Euphrates in Syria.

Iran says it launched missiles into Syria targeting Ahvaz attack 'ringleaders'

The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it has hit the ringleaders responsible for a terrorist attack on a military parade in Ahvaz on September 22, which killed 30 people and injured over 60.
In a statement published by its own outlet Sepah, the IRGC said its Aerospace Division targeted the "headquarters of the terrorists" east of the Euphrates in Syria. The statement was accompanied by photos of surface-to-surface missiles being launched. It claims that "a large number" of the terrorists were hit.

Last month's attack on the military parade in the southwestern Iranian city of Ahvaz killed 30 people and injured around 70. Tehran is accusing the US and its allies in the Gulf of enabling the carnage.

Washington has denied claims that it was to blame for the tragedy, instead accusing the Iranian government of poor governance and inability to protect its citizens. Rouhani shot back by saying it was like blaming 9/11 victims.

Non sequitur here. Iran's missles targeted IS, not Syrian citizens. And Syria has signed a military cooperation deal with Iran. Iraq and Russia also in alliance against IS with Syria and Iran.

I'm sure US neocon leadership will make as big a deal as they can out of this, but the US has no standing in Syria's choices of alliance. Obama helped give IS its foothold in Syria to please his neocon and MIC masters, and now they will jump on this to insure their investment pays off.

who initially identified herself to me as Kuwaiti. However, after getting to know me a bit, she confided that she had been born and raised in Homs, Syria.

She told me that, while her family was still in Homs, ISIL had killed her father and perhaps also her brother, who was missing without a trace. People told her mother that, since ISIL had apparently targeted her family, she should take her daughter and leave the country because members of ISIL were also raping young girls.

Her mother took the advice and moved to Kuwait. There, the woman I met in the hospital eventually met a Kuwaiti widower with three children. They married and had several children together, the youngest of whom was five when I met this beautiful family.

Sadly, the woman from Homs was in the hospital for bone cancer, which had metastasized. She had refused amputation of her legs and was learning to use a walker. She may well have passed on by now. On hearing her story, I was heartbroken for her and her loved ones. And that is only one real life story.

That is all I have to say about Iran's targeting ISIL in Syria, if that is indeed what Iran did. But here, direct from Memory Lane, is an essay about Obama and Syria: https://caucus99percent.com/content/did-obama-draw-red-line-syrian-sand-...

Also from Memory Lane, Clinton praises Assad as a reformer, but later sings a different tune:

Your essay is quite appropriate to the long but unstoppable run-up to the Irano-American war, gleefully co-sposored by Council on Foreign Relations, John Bolton, and Haliburton. The ultimate excuse, unless somebody does accelerate the process, is that clashes between Israeli and Syrian jets in Northern-Eastern Syria increase in number. Then will come the as yet conjectural declaration by "impartial Allied investigators" (spell that M-O-S-S-A-D) that there are gigaton Nuclear ballistic missiles hidden under the northern Syrian desert sand. Led on by Bibi, 4-10-20 will commence a shoot first and ask questions later campaign.

Syria could face tough sanctions if it blocks political process: U.S. diplomat

The United States will pursue “a strategy of isolation,” including sanctions, with its allies if President Bashar al-Assad holds up a political process aimed at ending Syria’s seven-year war, a top U.S. diplomat for Syria told Reuters on Friday.

Jim Jeffrey, the U.S. special representative for Syria, said Washington would work with countries in Europe, Asia and the Middle East to impose tough international sanctions if Assad’s government failed to cooperate on rewriting the Syrian constitution as a prelude to elections.

“If the regime does that, we believe that then we can go after it the way we went after Iran before 2015 - with really tough international sanctions,” Jeffrey said, referring to secondary sanctions against Tehran for its nuclear program.

He added: “Even if the U.N. Security Council won’t pass them we will just do it through the European Union, we will do it through our Asian allies, and then we will make it our business to make life as miserable as possible for that flopping cadaver of a regime and let the Russians and Iranians, who made this mess, get out of it.”

What used to be the Left in Europe now has no ideas and no vision. Nothing to offer ordinary people not on the transnational gravy train except mockery and abandonment of their national identities in favor of faith in faceless, globalizing, neoliberal, authoritarian Brussels.

Right now, if there is any revolutionary energy in Europe it would seem to all be on the side of nationalists and populists who want to reclaim sovereignty and identity for non-migrant citizens.

Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.

The neocons are looking for any excuse to force a US/Iranian war. Both Obama and Trump have made an issue out of Iran's ballistic missiles even though they were not part of the original deal on the development of nuclear weapons.
