Check out this tweet. Davis said Cohen didn’t implicate Trump

This attempt to impeach Trump just keeps getting stranger by the minute.

I heard Lanny hedge/evade on that point in a interview earlier today. I'll check out the Meet The Press Daily (MTP Daily) transcript for today's show, over the weekend, and post it next week. That's pretty big, considering the fact that like DT, Cohen's told quite a few contradictory stories about the Daniels payment, etc.

Considering that they (Davis & Cohen) didn't even wait 24 hours before establishing a GoFundMe legal fund page, seems like they could argue that Cohen likely fabricated this claim, in order to curry favor with Dems/Clinton 'followers' and Anti-Trumpers--for fundraising purposes.

Just watch. If former FBI SA Andrew McCabe was able to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars, no telling what Dems will throw at Cohen in order to sink DT.

BTW, Lanny is actually taking the opportunity to shill for Cohen's legal fund on Cable News--he did it with Wolf Blitzer this afternoon (Situation Room).

@Unabashed Liberal

his office was raided. Yet people are sending him money for his defense even though he has already made a plea deal. Besides that if Cohen can spend that much for an apartment i don't understand why he needs people to give him their money. Grifters have to grift I guess. Didn't Davis help setup Strzok's GFM or was that McCabe? So many grifters it's hard to keep track.

While brilliant on a grifting level, this is beyond snake on the 'low' and reality tv level. It's absolutely unbelievable. Worse, though, is that people have actually "donated". My god.

@Deja

Both McCabe and Strzok had much more in the same time period than Cohen.

Here's what Lanny Davis is telling people about why Mikey's needs the money.

On July 2, 2018, Michael Cohen declared his independence from Donald Trump and his commitment to tell the truth.

On August 21, Michael Cohen made the decision to take legal responsibility and to continue his commitment to tell the truth.

Michael decided to put his family and his country first. Now Michael needs your financial help -- to pay his legal fees.

The Michael Cohen Truth Fund is a transparent trust account, with all donations going to help Michael Cohen and his family as he goes forward on his journey to tell the truth about Donald Trump.

kinda deals. In fact, IMO that’s how all of this is, smoke and mirrors.

Trump’s a skunk, no doubt about it. But the Dims are far more dishonest and dangerous.

@Amanda Matthews that Trump is a crook and a con man, but the Democratic and Republican leaderships, the intelligence agencies, the military and the corporate oligarchy that calls the shots for them are all part of an apparatus that deceives us, wastes our resources, starts wars that kill hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions, of people and projects a stifling military hegemony around the world. Trump is dangerous in the short term because he is ignorant and shallow and in a position in which he can do a lot of harm quickly. In the long term, however, this self-perpetuating military, industrial, intelligence, congressional, and, above all, capitalist complex is much worse and much harder to defeat.

Not only the he said he said situation of whether Trump told Cohen to do that, but then there's this.

Lanny Davis Obliterated CNN’s ‘Bombshell’ Report About Michael Cohen And Trump Tower

> CNN reported on July 27 that Michael Cohen is willing to tell investigators that Donald Trump authorized the infamous Trump Tower meeting with a group of Russians
> But Cohen’s lawyer now says that bombshell report got “mixed up”
> Lanny Davis says that Cohen “does not” have information that Trump had prior knowledge about the meeting

A CNN report in July that Michael Cohen has information that President Donald Trump was aware of the infamous Trump Tower meeting before it occurred got “mixed up” and was inaccurate, Cohen attorney Lanny Davis said Wednesday night.

“So Michael Cohen does not have information that President Trump knew about the Trump Tower meeting with the Russians beforehand or even after?” CNN’s Anderson Cooper asked Davis.

“No, he does not,” replied Davis, a longtime Clinton insider who started representing Cohen earlier this summer.

Davis’s bombshell statement severely undercuts a July 27 CNN report that Cohen was willing to tell special counsel Robert Mueller that he was in a meeting when Donald Trump Jr. told his father about an offer to meet with a group of Russians who wanted to provide dirt on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

According to CNN’s anonymous sources, Trump approved the meeting, which took place on June 9, 2016. Democrats seized on the CNN report as evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian government.
....
Davis dealt another major blow to the allegations of Trump campaign collusion when he said in an interview with Bloomberg News that the Steele dossier’s allegations about Cohen are “false.”

“Thirteen references to Mr. Cohen are false in the dossier, but he has never been to Prague in his life,” Davis said.

The headlines today were sure that Cohen was the man who was going to tie Trump to every accusation that had been made against him. Oops. Looks like there still is no evidence that Trump has done anything wrong.

... anybody want to hear it?

OK. We start with the DNC emails.
DNC emails copied to thumb drive
That was just the first link that came up. This was a year ago.

Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity, or VIPS, said there was an insider leak that occurred thanks to someone with access to a DNC computer.
...
The crux of their argument is that the data taken from the DNC was transferred to a USB stick, meaning that someone would have had to have direct access to the committee’s computers.

They claim the data was transferred at a rate that was far too fast for an internet connection.

This didn't get much traction at the time, other people called BS and maybe it is. Still, I'm intrigued by the possibility.

Next, Imwan Awan.
Awan arrested
That report dated 25 July, 21 days before the Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity report.

I thought that was shady at the time, and I think I wrote some comments about it. I thought then, and still think, that Awan was the guy that stole the emails, then they passed through several hands before Wikileaks got them. Once it became known that it was an inside job, his Clinton protection was gone and he smashed his hard drives and made a run for it. He didn't make it out of the country.

What does Fox have to say?
Ex-Dem IT aide Imran Awan avoids jail time

... sentenced Awan to three months of supervised release plus time served ... also did not impose a fine ... Federal guidelines recommended a sentence of zero to six months in jail, followed by two to five years of supervised release.

Got off easy. Plea deal? The reports don't seem to say that (or maybe I missed it).

Here's the juicy part that came out today:
Another Major Bombshell Buried in Michael Cohen's Felony Charges

But in addition to the payouts to the women, there was another large sum for which Cohen was later reimbursed, according to the court documents:
The $50,000 represented a claimed payment for "tech services," which in fact related to work COHEN had solicited from a technology company during and in connection with the campaign.
The document gives no more information about this payment, but the language suggests investigators may know more details about it — including the technology company in question — that they have not yet revealed.
...
But why would they use the same method to pay for a technology company's services during the campaign? As long as the services were above board, this would be a legitimate campaign expense.

Why indeed.

EDIT:
Lanny Davis on Rachel Maddow last night

Lanny Davis, attorney for former Donald Trump attorney Michael Cohen, tells Rachel Maddow that Cohen has knowledge that should be of interest to Robert Mueller and he is happy to tell Mueller what he knows about the "possibility of a conspiracy to collude and corrupt the American democracy system in the 2016 election" and also what Trump knew about computer hacking.

So now my glorious theory...

The "technology company" was Awen's.

Cohen has more tapes. He leaked the one with Trump talking about the hush money deal. Why would he leak his best stuff first, people wondered at the time? Because it wasn't his best stuff.
Trump conspired with Cohen to hire Awen to steal the emails, which passed through several hands before reaching Wikileaks. Cohen has Trump on tape. His plea deal is pleading guilty in return for getting little or no jail time when this all comes out. Awen got a plea deal in return for future cooperation on this upcoming case.

Maybe not true, but would make a great novel at least.

@WoodsDweller

Bill Binny is sticking to his thumb drive leak statement. Here he is last week with Jimmy -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHZXVWUxxDU 12 min
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFQYWBZjNfc 8 min
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aS3WR9Qlgvg (5 min)

I think it is the first clip where they review why it was a leak rather than hack. I hypothesize it is one of the reasons they seek to silence Julian before he spills the beans. Since Seth is dead you would think he would just tell people. I always wondered why he delayed the release of the $hill's emails till right before the convention instead of early enough to have discouraged her nomination.

As to your Awan hypothesis - I suspect he was working with the CIA and the ISS to spy on congress. That's how he gets away with only a slapped hand.

@Lookout
oh, yeah, that situation is coming to a head as the rest of this comes out. How convenient. Good catch.
Awan might have been working for the spooks, but that doesn't preclude him doing some free lance work on the side.
The counter argument for Awan being a spook himself is that doing the wire transfer as he was running for the airport was an amateur move. He should have known that would put a red flag on him and could keep him from getting on that plane. When it's time to run, you run. You can't expect to take the money with you.
He could well have been an intelligence asset, feeding them information on a case by case basis for payments. When Cohen contacted him it was just another job.
There was a chain of possession of the drive itself and its contents after Awan (or whoever) walked out of the server room. Did he deliver it to Cohen? Doesn't seem likely, I wouldn't want that thing anywhere near me. Who did he deliver it to? Roger Stone? Paul Manafort? Someone else?
I posted a few days ago about the Manafort trial and why it doesn't make sense to go to court with no case at all. Now it's getting a little clearer.
On Majority Report they were talking about the Cohen case and plea bargains. There is no public record of a plea bargain, Cohen plead guilty without a deal. WTF?
The speculation is that a Mueller deal is for blanket immunity going forward. But Mueller might not be willing to let Cohen and Manafort go with nothing, so they plead guilty to some charges, then they cut an immunity deal for the rest.
Sentencing still hasn't happened. Apparently you have a year after sentencing during which the prosecutors can go back and ask for a reduction of sentence.
Trump could pardon then for the the cases that are over, but not pro-actively for the cases still to come, and they would have immunity deals for them. Trump would have little to offer them to keep quiet.

but Mueller 'bombshells' do not make me more excited to vote Democratic this Fall.

Quite the opposite, actually.

And that's a problem for the Dems.

Once again, the Dems will make the entire election about Trump, and once again they will be disappointed in the results, because all attacking Trump does is:

1. Rile up his base by playing straight into their siege mentality.

2. Turn off policy starved Progressives who see through the political theater and are heartily sick of it.

The Grand Conspiracy desperately needs a win this Fall.

I just don't see it happening.

@Not Henry Kissinger I almost feel #1 is an acceptable term for them to prevent them from talking about issues ala #2. As we’ve seen, the Dems are ok with losing (or at least with other Dems losing. As long as Pelosi, Schumer, etc. keep their jobs, it’s ok.)
