When a gaffe isn't a gaffe
The right-wing media stopped talking about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez' policies after a few weeks, and shifted to calling her a stipud dummyhead.
You know, like on an elementary school playground.
To back up this claim, they point to her gaffes, and she has made a few.
Of course their hero, Trump, is a daily gaffe machine, but that is so easy I won't even bother going there.
The problem is that about half of AOC's gaffes aren't gaffes at all.
They are instead proof that the right-wing isn't very smart.
This is a gaffe.
“Hello, everybody! So excited to be here on Sen. Sanders’ account and we’re here in Kansas City to rally for Brent Welder,” Cortez said to the camera. “We’re gonna flip this seat red in November.”
This is the equivalent of a typo. That they made a big deal out of this shows desperation (3939 comments).
Now let's look at the so-called liberal media.
Commentary: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez becomes the Sarah Palin of the Left
In the six short weeks since her upset primary win, Ocasio-Cortez has:· Claimed "unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs."
· Referred to Israel's "occupation of Palestine" and struggled to explain what that meant
· Claimed the "upper-middle class doesn't exist anymore."
· Wrongly accused her defeated Democratic opponent of plotting a third-party challenge against her.
I'll grant the unemployment rate one as a gaffe.
"Upper-middle class doesn't exist anymore" is an exaggeration, and is a semi-gaffe. Although Trump said similar things during the primaries.
But 'Referred to Israel's "occupation of Palestine"' is an actual fact. It's not even controversial. There are U.N. resolutions.
Granted, she did struggle to explain what she meant, but that doesn't count as a gaffe. It counts as not being prepared.
As for Crowley 'plotting a third-party challenge against her', that is also a fact since he refused to withdraw himself from the primary.
She also compared the costs of the GOP tax cuts (less than $2 trillion over the next 10 years) to the costs of her Medicare For All approach, estimated at around $32 trillion over a decade. Then to make matters worse, she added this during a CNN interview:
"Americans have the sticker shock of healthcare as it is, and what we're also not talking about is why aren't we incorporating the cost of all the funeral expenses of those who died because they can't afford access to healthcare? That is part of the cost of our system."
Yes—what about all the savings we'll have under #MedicareForAll once people stop dying?
This just shows that the person writing the article isn't very bright. Or is paid not to understand.
She was making a point about priorities when budgeting.
She also answered the question of how to pay for it.
As for the funeral expenses point, AOC's example was brilliant, but outside of the window of mainstream thought.
Today AOC sent out this:
Back home after a lovely few days off enjoying US examples of Democratic Socialism, like:
- Acadia National Park
- Café Co-ops (Def Top 5 best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever had )
- Supporting worker-owned businesses
- Bonus: Spotted a @PPact helping people, per usual pic.twitter.com/xmiYXutfpS— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@Ocasio2018) August 19, 2018
The right-wing media were quick to show how ignorant they are again.
“The National Park System is not socialism in action: It is a mix of public goods, like monuments, and government maintenance of park land, which is not an interruption of private economic activity or a usurpation of private property rights,” The Weekly Standard’s Chris Deaton wrote in a column.Deaton added that "contra Ocasio-Cortez, a fishing trip to Yellowstone is not a celebration of Marx and Engels."
Deaton is a moron.
Public lands, like parks, are known as "the commons", and the commons are where the idea of socialism was created.
Just to give one example, the Libertarian Mises says: National parks are socialist parks.
I find it interesting that after 40 years of calling everything left of Ronald Reagan as being socialist, they are now denying things that actually are socialist as being socialist.
Right-wingers are actually trying to move the Overton Window slightly to the left because they've realized that it is so far to the right that Obama and an actual socialist are indistinguishable to the average Fox News viewer, and that's a problem.
Their past success is now a liability, which is an interesting historical point.
I don't think that this new strategy will work. At least not without the help of the Democrats.

Obama = socialist is a duopoloy thing
I think that's how they want it. Nancy Pelosi is a socialist just like Bernie and Fox news are the good guys. There is no nuance in Oceania. There is only good, doubleplus good, ungood and doubleplusungood.
Beware the bullshit factories.
Moving yet?
Well, there you go - in that case it's going to work. Seeing as the national Democratic leadership detests actual leftists more than do the Republicans, that window will be moving.
Her supposed gaffe
Claimed "unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs." is actually quite correct.
Although she should have added "two part time" jobs.
Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.
Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.
glass houses, with a vengeance.
The Right Wing, home of such bombshell intellectual luminaries as Melania Trump, Ivanka Kushner, Awful Annie my-book-has-over-seven hundred-footnotes Coulter, the current Ambassador to the UN, not to mention a host of Fox "three bimbos in the morning" newsbabes is calling Ocasio-Cortez, who pulled off a stunning primary victory, dumb???
DNCC puppets are attacking her too? What happened there? She didn't let them staff her campaign with their own people? Didn't sign the Israel pledge? Didn't kiss toes at their fancy parties? Or didn't take calls from Bill?

Katko has started running ads in NY 24
Nothing about policies, just attacking his opponent as a "visiting professor from Connecticut" who wants to raise your taxes...with a 2 second clip of Balter saying taxes would have to go up with no context.
As for parks not being socialist...I'm just at a loss for words...The State Parks in NY wouldn't exist as they do today if it wasn't for the two most socialist programs of the New Deal, the WPA and the CCC...

Well, time for the smears as the initial attacks supported her
Yah, it was hilarious how Fox especially was actually making AOC look good. So now time for the smears.
Man, if Crowley mounts a successful third party victory with his corrupt cronies, then say good by to the democratic party in 2020 elections.
If so, we will see if Hillary
