He told her that she should be ashamed for saying those things about john-boy because he is a war hero and I kinda told him that Johnny was actually a war criminal. It devolved into

"No he isn't, yes he is" titter-tat on Twitler.

McCain shut down the investigation into remaining POWs too. He once told a lady to shut up from his high seat on his committee.

There's also his role in creating the terrorist groups that were used in Libya and Syria.

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

Like, what was hung over his head.

I was a big fan of his in the mid-90s. He was a maverick and a decent human being.

Something happened between 98 and 2001 and he lost his friggin' mind.

Not to make excuses for him, he may have always been a warmongering asshole, but I didn't see it back in the day, and I was already looking across the aisle to see him as a decent human being.

Rarely do I get snowed by politicians. I chalk it up to living in Hawaii for my formative political years. Nothing like seeing the rat race from the outside...

They sent home a poison pill. And we swallowed it.

Of course, the crazy and the evil have a lot of latitude in the US. We have the shortest constitution ever written. It's a sketchy set of instructions for running a government that makes corruption easy. More of an outline, really. Sweden's constitution looks like a highrise next to the antique US constitution. Sweeden didn't want such easy corruption between the so-called checks and balances, so they spelled out the rules in advance.

@k9disc I remember around the primaries of 2000 having a discussion with some friends and we all admitted we were giving a long look at possibly voting for McCain. I don’t know if I was just that naïve or the stories were not as accessable or Gore was just that lame or all of the above. Obviously, I wouldn’t give the guy a second thought today but back then, he seemed pretty ok (and this was way before the media deified him.)

still in Hawaii. I called him out as a dark horse for 2000 in some political conversations around your timeframe while traveling in Europe. I followed him rather closely and was impressed.

He was getting clobbered by the media at the time, and really was a maverick. I do not know what happened, as I think 911 was not the political game changer for him despite the coincidental timeframe.

He was one of the first complete moral and ethical flips I can recall. And maybe he wasn't first, but it sure was one of the most drastic changes I can recall.

This was about the timeframe of TIA, and I could see him or his wife getting caught up in some broadband data collection in those heady days of Ashcroft. I do believe that something weird happened to him.

... for all you listed and more. I will defend McCain, who suffered tremendously and courageously as a POW, from attacks by Cadet Bone Spur. But I'll never call him a "hero" and certainly almost everything he's done while in office — including voting against rape victims — is at least bad, often appalling and sometimes downright criminal.

Democrats is likely attributable to the recent push by Democrats to deify the military. Part of it is sympathy for his current health situation. But in private life and public, he was far from a saint. Often ugly, in fact.

He wanted the military because of his family. He crashed several planes before being captured. I rather suspect that costly to taxpayers fact was due to drinking. Yes, he had a hell of a time while captured. According to his fellow prisoners, though, he sold out completely. Since I've never had my arms broken repeatedly, I won't judge him for that, but others who were also tortured did not give up any person or information. What he did to his first wife was the reason Reagan and Poppy snubbed him, for the most part. His language was crude and highly sexist. He is beyond overrated.

That said, I am sorry to see anyone suffer with cancer, including McCain.

The majority of people in the US and world having cancer must suffer excruciatingly - they don't have the resources that undeserving prick does.

from the face of the earth, the better off the world will be. How many hundreds of thousands of innocents in foreign nations have suffered death and destruction from the wars and conflicts he has enabled, encouraged and fomented?

The world would now be a much better place had he never returned from Vietnam.

The sooner that fucking warmonger is six feet under the better.

If you think these words are too harsh, then tell me ONE good thing McCain has accomplished in his entire lifetime.

The following is going to be that SOB's final legacy:

S.3336 - Defending American Security from Kremlin Aggression Act of 2018

If Putin was not the reasoned statesman he is, that Bill would be tantamount to an act of war against Russia.

I give you the following as his well deserved eulogy.

Despite What the Press Says, “Maverick” McCain Has a Long and Distinguished Record of Horribleness

What sort of person takes a break from taxpayer-funded cancer treatment and flies 2,000 miles to cast a vote that could result in 22 million people losing their health insurance and tens of thousands of them also losing their lives, then makes a big speech about how messed up the whole process is?

Perhaps the same sort of person who relentlessly agitated for an invasion and occupation of Iraq that caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and led to millions of others being displaced from their homes?

Or maybe the same sort of person who put personal and party interests ahead of the national interest when he picked the know-nothing, far-right demagogue Sarah Palin, the ur-Trump, as his running mate in 2008?

Meet John Sidney McCain III: veteran Republican senator from Arizona and former GOP presidential candidate, who endured horrific torture and abuse at the hands of the Viet Cong between 1967 and 1973, and who was tragically diagnosed with brain cancer last week — and who has also been a loathsome human being for most of his eight decades on this planet.
...

Rest in anguish, McCain.
