The risible ostracism of banning

Like excommunication from a religious body, banning from a website is risible. It serves only to eliminate dissent in order to drive money into the pockets of the owners. To be clear, this was not a banning, but more of a purge. Luckily, these purges do not harm anyone. We can laugh at them and the little purgers, those who think they are going to amount to anything.

In a hundred days, let alone a hundred years, no one will ever read anything published on a blog.
We must educate on political theory, revolutionary theory, the principles of social organization. The irony is, one will understand what is happening with greater clarity than the barrage of tawdry outrages of political titillation which pass for informed opinion.

Then create books and publish them, and use blogs for the one thing which they are good for: advertising.

Well, except this blog, which does not have advertisements.

It takes a lot of effort to get through this material. It is one hundred percent worth it and necessary.

We possess no real knowledge about anything unless we have recreated this knowledge on our own, for ourselves. To wit, the illusion of social communication: it isn't knowledge, it isn't awareness, it isn't even sleepwalking. It is nothing more than me expressing feelings, outrage, presenting something dug up, and leaving nothing explained. Nothing. It is the antithesis of rational inquiry. It is the ideology of "evidence," taken from watching too many crime programs on TV: a court of law is an entirely fictitious ontological world. It is the very paradigm of a totalitarian regime: all information is strictly controlled, agreed to by the judge and the adversaries. As a mechanism for settling legal disputes, it is imperfect, as anyone wrongly executed for a crime she did not commit would tell you if they were not dead. As a model of epistemology, of the ability for being aware, it reflects exactly what the elites want us to believe: that we can have a "reality" without our input, without WE deciding what is real, and using critical inquiry to challenge any authority over reality. Even in science this is true: we have a theory which we accept as correct, only until it is proven false. No statute of limitations, no limits on what one can ask, and above all, no human authorities.

There will be no revolution in the US. All of the great revolutionary movements began with major pieces of intellectual work, digested by the engineers and architects of social change. Those who did the heavy mental lifting were often poor, even if they were famous. Those who understood and could express a system of thought as a plan of action were persecuted.

The point is, that there can be no lasting change without a solid foundation.

Daily Kos is a joke. I know this may come as an offense to some, who invest a great deal of time and who are able to write, who bring information about events taking place which are deemed of significance.

However, nothing changes if the struggle is not based on firm convictions, which for human beings must be grounded not in the enthusiasm of self-interest, but in reason.

I have written this before, and I will keep writing it until the message is understood.

As for the small potatoes influence peddlers of the digital world, no one is so blind as to see that restricting a clear debate about the next President serves any use except that of those who profit from censorship, which is always those with capital. They are bait-and-switch artists, building trust and then selling that trust. Capitalists and commodifiers of fears, hopes, desires, and dreams. One pretends to build a movement which reflects the neglected interests of the disestablished classes, and then, when trust has been won, abandons them and chooses self-aggrandizement.

It is the dream of the very small person, and the nightmare for everyone else who is waiting for some savior.

Be that as it may, no website is going to influence the vast majority of the voting public. Every blogger ought to know this. Sitcoms and infotainment have more influence.

One hundred forty characters being the profound literature of our age, no one who is not in a small minority of the US population will bother reading blogs. They will still listen to the mass media first and foremost, seeking to make an honest, informed decision does not challenge the convenience of their lifestyle, does not costs them much. It is cheap and it is most everyone.

This media, which controls not only political opinion, but the way we dress, how we speak, our opinions. It limits us. Not with political bias, but with a bias much more insidious, much more far-reaching: the bias of categories of self-indoctrination. That is the great failure of democracy: to prevent the indoctrination of the self. The US media are masters of this.

Others have expressed this opinion but I shall say it again: the owners of some sites are the quintessential US mentality, the "self-made persons," the "entrepreneurs." In other words, the bourgeoisie. In other words, the disposable cogs of the larger apparatus of controlling wealth, thought, education, culture. The problem is not being an entrepreneur, the problem is the ideology of being an entrepreneur, and the real tangible effects this has on destroying the fabric of a rational, integrated, whole society.

Class struggle is the defining force that shapes all modern societies. For some this means struggling out of a class into another, for others it means struggling to end the control of one class over another. Some choose the former, others the latter.

Unlike some, I think this pattern remains in place indefinitely. There is no "absolute trajectory" of human history. It continues until there is a way to stop it, and the means to stop it, and the will to stop it.

Peace and love be upon you, reader.

some more about DK and my reaction of affront to being told to toe the line. Limit my (as you said) meaningless mutterings read by few, influencing none.

I am not well-studied on formation and composition of successful movements. Can you suggest readings?

read everything. Start anywhere, but make sure to start with the largest obstacles first.

A reading list is a bias that I shall not impose.

If you want to talk about a specific work, a specific idea, for critical debate, I will respond with the time that I have.

Peace and love to you, reader.

And had a greater impact than Markos and his playpen.

Especially now.

Having an avenue to discuss ideas, to read others, to learn, is important. But when someone decides that it would be harmful for their chosen candidate to have to deal with harsh truths, and therefore our words are no longer welcome? That is just ineffably stupid. As if Herr Capo (Teh Don) will show any reticence.

As for finding and grasping ideas about society and how it needs to change, America is always in second place, compared to other nations. I don't know if unbridled capitalism, with its unequal impact on the muddle class and the poor is the major cause, or the impact of Hollywood, Reality TV, and the odd, regrettable inefficient and wasteful impact of our disposable society contributes to it.

Perhaps our educational cystern, with poorly funded local grade schools, with higher education approach that bankrupts kids before they enter real life, or the constant drum beat of conservative Christian ideas ( flat earth, no evolution, Adam and Eve were first, science is bad, faith is good, the bible holds inerrant truths enough for the masses, etc.) destroys kids' minds rather than educates them.

Teh Don is a symptom of our society's many faults and failures. Sadly, Hillary is so flawed, so neocon in her foreign views, so bought and beholden to Wall Street and venture capital, that she is not the answer. She is a big part of the problem and really little more than another symptom.

Today's HuffPo writes how Hillary attracted far fewer OH voters than Teh Don. So many fewer that even if every Bernie voter supported her (which I cannot ethically or morally do) Teh Don beats her soundly.

serves us right.

What are our supposed values? Democracy, not when you have an owner of public meeting ground telling you what you can and can't say. Freedom of speech, forget it when it interferes with the owner's need to buy "access" to power. Progressive values? Not when you are busy banning progressives that speak their minds.

If GOS goals are to elect more and better Democrats then it is a complete failure. The only success that the Democrats have in the last 20 years is due to backlash against GWB. Think about it, no real progress has been made. That's because the Democratic Party and GOS have no overall guiding philosophy. They gave up everything for a few social goals. Take a look at FDR's Second Bill of Rights. The Democrats and GOS are not that party. They are the party of "don't ask, don't tell". Bill and Hillary decided that they could harness the power of Liberals by giving them a few social bones, in return they are fundamentally Republicans in all that matters, economically, and in foreign affairs, and in real rights to life resources.

The best thing that ever could happen is that this Progressive community has moved on from a bad idea, Daily GOS, to a new idea. We have to create the philosophical foundation for a new world. It's going to be very difficult, but if we do it with good humor and open minds it's possible. There is now a huge amount of data available to look at experiments at new organizing social philosophies. What worked and what didn't work and why?

Bernie Sanders campaign is an eye-opener. He espoused classical Social Democracy and he was not run out of town, quite to the contrary, he draws huge crowds. We now know that progress if possible, from OWS to Bernie to anything is possible. GOS is stuck in the neocon/neoliberal/DLC/triangulation/cult-of -personality prison that he has embraced. Good luck with whatever microscopic power he expects to gain. We are free to explore the future.

Capitalism has always been the rule of the people by the oligarchs. You only have two choices, eliminate them or restrict their power.

Optimism and belief that structures and society can be changed seems like a vital ingredient in the belief system of anyone who would advocate change.

People came together and moved governments and created countries when there was literally almost no communication and illiteracy was the norm. Person to person communication and argument and persuasion can change the world. I don't think it matters if it's a book, a blog, a tweet, a facebook post, a watercooler conversation, a letter, a news report or whatever the medium may be.

What I think is the critical element is discomfort. Enough people have to experience a level of discomfort they find intolerable before a place and time reach critical mass. Individually we have to decide just how nasty, brutish and cruel we are willing to let our lives become.

It also happened to be the right one.

I never knew how to look up anyone banned, timed out, etc., thus, my ignorance. It's all good, though. The less I have to do with them, the better for me. I read OPOL's diary over there, today, and the ugliness started right up top. Our favorite rabbit was leading the charge. I have a great deal of animosity for the HRC supporters over there. They have certainly put any nail in my "not voting for HRC" coffin. I actually considered it, back in the fall, but when the vitriol arrived and escalated, I checked out, pronto. No HRC for me, EVAH!!!
