Moving to the left will destroy the Democrats!!

It's important to get outside of your own personal bubble sometimes and see what the other side thinks.
No, not what corporate Democrats think, but what the right-wing thinks.

TheHill: Democrats can kiss swing voters goodbye with progressive ballot

TheHill: The progressive blue wave is crashing and burning in 2018

AmericanThinker: Time to Put the Democratic Party on Suicide Watch?

PJMedia: The Democratic Party Has a Death Wish

It's largely predictable. They view anything left of Pat Buchanan as kooky and dangerous.
I point it out because it puts the progressive Dems vs. Socialist debate in perspective.

But then there is two other articles worth considering.

TheDailyDot: What is the #WalkAway movement conservatives are celebrating?

Did people leave the Democratic Party in droves this weekend? If the reporting of several leading conservative sites are too be believed, yes, the left got a lot smaller under the so-called #WalkAway movement.

But it probably didn’t.

The impetus for the right is a six-minute video posted in May from a New York-based hairdresser. Brandon Straka, who is gay, spoke into the camera about the Democratic Party’s most “insidious lie” and how the party co-opts people of color and LGBTQ people without actually advancing their causes.
...
And there’s just one problem with the burgeoning movement.

One of the top accounts that’s been celebrated across conservative circles, @sophialimited, who said she had Hispanic, immigrant parents who decided to leave the Democratic party, was a bot. Twitter suspended it, but not before it racked up tens of thousands of retweets.

It's an interesting example because it shows what right-wingers can think is going on with liberals, from inside their own bubble.

And then there is this article by the Washington Examiner:
Why the Democratic Party is being destroyed by their millennial base

The party that was once represented by JFK and the “Blue Dog” coalition has all but been taken over by the worst that American society has to offer, and millennials are to blame.
The biggest virus that has caused this change in the Democratic Party is the Democratic Socialists of America, or DSA, which has backed candidates in dozens of races and resulted in more than 30 successfully-elected socialists across the country. More recent examples include a candidate who defeated the Republican House Majority Whip in the Virginia House of Delegates, four different candidates for seats in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and, most recently, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the primary challenger who ousted chair of the House Democratic Caucus, Rep. Joe Crowley, in New York’s 14th Congressional District.

All of these candidates are in their late 20’s and early 30’s, which is a reflection of the DSA’s top demographic. Since Trump’s election in 2016, the DSA has reported a massive spike in its membership among millennials out of protest to Trump’s presidency. Following the overwhelming support for socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and polls showing increasing support for socialism among the youth, such an abundance of outright socialist millennials running for office is only the latest unfortunate, but predictable, step in this devastating trend.

As Vogue wrote in the aftermath of Crowley’s loss, millennial socialists “might just be the future of the Democratic Party.” Or, that is to say, what little future the party may have left.
As this ultra-radical faction that could not be more out-of-touch with the average American continues to rise on the Left, more Democratic voters will be alienated from their old party.

Doom! Doom! The Dems will be dooooommmmeed if they give health care to everyone.
So giving the largest generation what it wants and needs is...bad?

Man I haven't seen them this active since -- well never.
And yes, Trump separating families is immoral and should be called out and stopped.

But gee, wouldn't it be nice to see these DemHoles ALSO get excited about: Medicare for All; or Reversing the Tax Giveaway to the Rich; or Stopping Price Gouging On Drugs -- you know, some big issue that is fucking over us american citizens.

PS. Just ranting. I know the Corporate Whore Dems are incapable.

@Citizen Of Earth

Yes separating children from their parents is horrible, but so is killing whole families as well as all the other things you mentioned. This selective outrage over which action is the one that brings people into the streets almost makes people hypocrites, IMO. The reason people are immigrating here is because we've destroyed their countries. Why don't people see this? I'm seeing people saying that immigrants are fleeing from crime or drug cartels with no mention of who is supporting it.

Rant away! Nicely done.

@snoopydawg Hussein massively increased deportations--2.5 million, leaving a hell of a lot of families disrupted. Where was the Demonratic outrage then? This doesn't excuse Trump's continuation of the policy.

So when Trump offered to mediate with the Dems, Chuckles, Nancy and the rest of the happy gang just took their ball and went home. That's how much they care.

None of these duopolistic whores give a damn about people (unless they have millions). How about a nice bath in Flintwater Mr. Pres.? And if you can find Hussein, send him enough to do so also.

@Alligator Ed

He not only separated hundreds of thousands of children from their parents when he deported 56% of immigrants that had no criminal records, but he also separated them when he locked them up.

Barry also set up concentration immigration camps made from tents in Texas and sent the national guard to the border. BTW. St. Reagan gave a lot of immigrants immunity during his tenure.

Ocasio-Cortez calls for single-payer healthcare, abolition of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, and free college for all. Forget about the underlying arithmetic and how to pay for all of it, which either requires sky-high taxation or flat-out sorcery. Rather, this is a cultural manifesto, a cry for open borders, and a demand for one ginormous nausea-inducing free lunch. Against this backdrop, does anyone think Michael Bloomberg has a realistic shot at winning the Democratic nomination two years from now? There is nothing like an aging financialist to get people really excited and trudging out in the dead of winter to hang out for two hours at the Iowa caucuses.

This sounds like the same hit job that people made against Bernie. "How can we possibly pay for all that free stuff?" Gee I don't know. Maybe by rescinding the last tax cut, military budget increase, that $10 million a day that Israel gets and by raising taxes on rich and the country back to where they actually have to pay some.

Speaking of free lunch, why don't people have a problem with the free lunch that the subsidies pay for? Why in hell do profitable companies still need to get them? On top of all the tax breaks they get to take advantage of.

I doubt anyone wants open borders, but I know plenty of people who want the bombings of foreign people's countries to stop which would decrease the number of people who have flee if they want to stay alive. Why is that such a hard concept for the anti immigration people to understand?

@snoopydawg according to WashPost

Republicans are afraid they cannot stop Democrats from making big gains in November, so they’re trying to convince Democrats to stop themselves. For the sake of the nation, don’t fall for it this time.

The GOP’s propaganda arm, Fox News, has become obsessed with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the 28-year-old newcomer who defeated veteran Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.) in a primary last month. What fascinates Fox News and the rest of the right-wing media is not Ocasio-Cortez’s sharp intellect or her telegenic presence but that she describes herself as a democratic socialist.

Cue the horror-movie music and throw in a piercing scream.
...
All the yelling and screaming by Sean Hannity and others on the right is not aimed at damaging Ocasio-Cortez’s prospects of winning; if anything, it probably enhances them. Nor can the disproportionate focus on one House contest out of 435 be intended to influence President Trump’s loyal supporters — very few of whom, after all, live in the Bronx.

The impact, rather, is on Democrats, who seem congenitally inclined to fret, who overthink every situation and who have been creative in finding new ways to squander political advantage.

Predictably, some Democratic hand-wringers are warning darkly that the very existence of left-of-center candidates such as Ocasio-Cortez, in the bluest districts in the land, will limit the party’s potential gains in the House and imperil some Democrats in the Senate. The thing to do, these worrywarts counsel, is have all candidates stick to bland centrist nostrums, saying nothing that anyone might disagree with.

Which is exactly what the GOP wants.

and found that the Democratic Party was losing about 1 million votes a year, and had since Obama's betrayal in 2009. I also saw a similar loss - in the 1990s, following Bill Clinton's betrayal (NAFTA and "Hillarycare")
I also saw that those voters were not switching to the Republicans, they were simply staying home. (the 1996 Gingrich revolution was sort of different, as the religious right brought out a large number of first time voters - but not D>R voters)

Interesting thoughts: The Republican vote totals had not changed throughout the Obama adminisstration, though population increases should have caused them to rise. In other words, young (millenial) conservatives are replacing dying conservative seniors, but not in numbers proportionate to their total population.
Trump got essentially the same number of votes as McCain and Romney. There was also an analysis (not mine) that showed that his base of support was actually middle aged professional class upper income whites, not racists and not poor whites, who according to the analysis, voted for Hillary (though perhaps not in the numbers expected, a situation that also applied to blacks and hispanics, all of whom voted Democratic, but not in the expected numbers)
Hillary's "magic mexicans" were a myth. The Hispanic vote not only did not manifest itself, Hillary actually lost percentage points to Trump.(so remarkable that I doubt the analysis' facts, though I suppose it's possible that calling yourself an "abuela" while supporting Hunduran death squads might be more damaging than calling people rapists - I used to know a black minister who voted for George Wallace because "at least he admitted he was a racist")

Why should I vote for a party that is supposedly in opposition to the things that Trump and the republicans are doing when people in this party make sure that there are enough of them to vote with them to get their legislation passed?

This opposition party has voted to give Trump more power to spy on us and to further deregulate the big banks? Many members of the opposition party voted for Trump's heinous cabinet picks? Warren said that she voted for Carson because she was afraid that Trump would have nominated someone worse. Seriously? She couldn't have continued not voting for his picks until he nominated someone who was qualified? Then there's Schumer who also voted for many of his picks knowing full well that they had a history of attacking the regulations that they would then be overseeing.

Finally why should I vote for a party that the majority voted to give Trump more money for the military budget then he asked for knowing damn well that with the deficit going up would trigger the republicans to gut the social safety net? The Resistance needs to be renamed the Assistant.

One person said that if I didn't vote in the midterms then I should slit my wrists! And yes even with that in the diary it made the wreck list.

One wrecked list diary asked people to come up with a message that the democrats should use to get people to vote for them. An effing message not what policies do they think the democrats should be running on. Even if they were lying when they said it people need a reason to vote for a party besides saying that they are not the republicans or Putin's puppets and committing treason like they are. Yep. Many people believe that. And that Trump only wants to pull the troops out of Germany because Vlad told him to.

is not to win, but to prevent socialists from getting on the ballot. To make sure meaningful change can't happen. To make sure that every choice offered to voters in the general election is one that suits the interests of big business and the wealthy. To make sure the house always wins.
When the Democrats manage to gain enough seats to govern, they do nothing or they enact Republican policies, which is to say the policies of the donor class.
