Obama Presidential Center to cost Illinois taxpayers nearly $200 million

I see the taxpayers up in The Land of Lincoln are still being flim-flammed by Obama & Co., LLC. Poor Abe! He’s probably spun his way to downtown Tokyo by now.

This money isn’t for the building. Nope. That’s not part of this multi-million dollar boondoggle.

Work related to Obama Presidential Center to cost Illinois taxpayers nearly $200 million

The controversial Obama Presidential Center in Chicago will benefit from almost $200 million in taxpayer funding for work on infrastructure projects near the center on Chicago’s South Side.

*

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, a former Obama White House chief of staff, described the infrastructure improvements as “money well spent.”

*

His office said that the funding would go toward meeting "the transportation infrastructure needs related to the Obama Center, from road construction to traffic mitigation to pedestrian safety to parkland enhancement."

“The state’s $174 million investment in infrastructure improvements near the Obama Center on the South Side of Chicago is money well spent,” he said.

The Washington Examiner reports that Illinois taxpayers will also shoulder half of a $50 million project to overhaul an above-ground rail stop two miles from the center. The other half will be funded via a Transportation Department grant.

Good grief. You caught thst right? $200 million dollars “for work on infrastructure projects near the center.” I’m glad they’ve got all the rest of the city’s problems solved. /s

I guess they gotta clean up the neighborhood to make it worthy of being home to The Empty Suit’s shrine.

Put some armed guards around to make sure it's safe, because those darned evil commies might try to tarnish his legacy or something...

Just admit we're building a subsidized Obama-Land already. It'll be fun. It'll be advertised everywhere, and everybody will say it's the greatest place on earth... and yet strangely nobody can point to anything good they can remember, but everybody knows it was better than not being in Obama-land...

Obama. In fact, he deserves only the best.

Hawaii dodged a hell of a bullet. Just think, what if he had decided to put this monument to himself where he was born?

But his library is being built where there is lots of low income housing and IIRC the homes are going to be demolished. People were trying to get him to build it somewhere else because of that, but he doesn't give a rat's ass about poor people.

And it's not just the $200 billion that the people of Chicago have to foot the bill for ...

Want to bet that his newly created foundation has that much money sitting inside it? Come on, it's a sucker's bet. I'm thinking that the Clintons gave him some great advice on how to use it to start grifting like they have been since they "left the White House not only totally broke, but $6 million in debt. Funny though that they were able to buy a few millions of dollars house anyway now isn't it?

I really have a very difficult time with the idea of a Presidential library for any President. If the documents are that important to history, perhaps they should be in a single public facility dedicated to all Presidents.

IMHO, I see a Presidential library as something similar to the pyramids of Egypt. They are temples to a single man and serve no purpose than the self glorification of that man.

Maybe I am wrong about this, but I really dislike the idea of Presidential libraries.

As for the Obama library, it reminds me of the scourge of urban renewal which displaced many poor people off their own property in favor of commercial projects.

Urban renewal (also called urban regeneration in the United Kingdom, urban renewal or urban redevelopment in the United States[1]) is a program of land redevelopment in cities, often where there is urban decay. However, in more recent cases this term has been replaced with more vague ones, like "blight," an elastic term that has been used and abused to justify the taking and destruction of habitable and badly needed low-cost urban housing, and its replacement with privately-owned, private profit-making commercial structures.

If Obama really wanted to do something meaningful after his Presidency, he would help improve the housing of the residents in the area. He is certainly rich enough already to do something of value and give back to the people who supported him even though he ignored them. That would be a much better legacy than just glorifying himself.
