Peace Chant, Recent Essays, and the Forest

peacechant_2.png

Started working on this over a year ago. At that time I posted the initial version on YouTube. I think it is finished now. It's imagined destiny is to be sung on a Peace March. Or a rally, or a small group meeting, or for personal reflection and meditation. Or maybe it is not destined for anything other than my personal use, which is fine. I do not have a voice recording of it, but am posting below the pdf of printed music, the MuseScore file, a midi file, and an mp3 of the melodies and rhythms.

Next, the recent essays. Wow. I don't have the opportunity these days to read them all, but I have to say that essays and comments this past week have been through the roof regarding insight and personal responses to present-day conditions.

Lastly, the forest. My 16 year old son just recently said to me, "I think I now understand the saying 'you don't see the forest for the trees' . . . it means that you don't see the big picture, right?"

We, here at c99, see the forest. And IMO, we are responding appropriately to the forest. We are spending more time with family. We are reaching out to others. We are mindful of what is true. We do what we can, when we can.

Peace to you all this day.

Thanks Marilyn, reminds me of a story which I've told before but I'll tell it again. Years ago I ran across a video of Yusef Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens, singing Peace Train at a Nobel Peace prize event. I think he had just started performing again, this might have been his first in a long time. But the comments under the video were what struck me. Someone started with a "Peace from ....." and everyone thereafter followed with the same, stating what state or country they were from. I went ahead and counted the number of countries represented in the comments and it was about 115-120 and nearly every state. I've always taken that as a sign of hope.

This was the video, as you can see the comments are disabled. I don't know why so you'll have to take my word for it.

@Big Al

I had forgotten about that lovely song. It must be sung on the peace march as well!

It is my understanding that when a Muslim wishes "Peace upon" someone (salaam alikum), it isn't just the absence of war and conflict, but the whole "security and daily bread" thing as well, to the one blessed and all who are dear to him. (Some muezzins' chants make this very point.)

Regardless of one's opinion as to whether or not Allah exists and is God, or Muhammad being the Messenger of God, or the Quraan being the Message of God, I feel that this concept of Peace is one thing the Muslims have got unquestionably right.

So Peace be upon you, mhagle and all this Essay's readers, from Southeastern Colorado!

rather than a piece of mind (as many prefer to offer).

Glad all is well with you and your family. Perhaps one day we will all ride the peace train together.

Peace to you all from Lookout Mountain....
