Who to vote for in November

As awful and venal as the Clinton influence peddling machine is, there should be no doubt who should get your vote come November, if Bernie fails to be the nominee. We have gone from a situation where we had 2 Wall Street parties - the socially conservative one and the socially liberal one - to something a whole lot more dangerous. While the Country Club Republicans in the DLC and DNC have tried to stay the course for their Wall Street patrons while advocating for incremental positive changes on social issues -the Republican party has devolved into something that is a clear and imminent threat to democracy.

Trump's brown shirts, who are drawn from white supremacist groups that used to exist on the fringes of the Republican party are physically attacking people of color, religious minorities, the press, anyone who challenges the Lets Make America White Again march of American Fascism. Nativist and racist leaders from all over Europe and Russia are flocking to Hair Trumps banner. If Trump gets elected, it would be open season on communities of color and religious minorities. Police, para-military and violent racists would be empowered to do their worst. The Republican party has already spent years fighting to deprive minorities of their voting rights. With a supreme court to back up the drive to deprive Americans their right to vote and institute a new Jim Crow - don't count on getting the chance to vote for a better Democrat in 4 years if the Republicans get the White House.

Redouble your efforts for Bernie, it's a crucial election. But if we loose this battle, the movement is still there and we will win this war. But under no circumstances can any of the current Republicans gain the White House in the mean time. So if you have to eat that DNC shit sandwich in November - think of it as taking one for the team. We need to keep democracy alive for long enough to effect electoral change.

I respectfully disagree and Clinton won't get my vote in November if she's the nominee. If it makes you feel any better, my state will go hard red if she's the nominee and my vote won't matter, even though I'll be leaving it blank or voting for Jill Stein (I don't believe North Carolina has the write-in option but if they do, I'll still vote for Bernie). My focus will be on downticket races if she's the nominee because I find her DLC/Third Way brand repulsive and as damaging to this country as any Republican.

If I were in a swing state, I could understand the argument (maybe) a little better, although it wouldn't change my decision. But I honestly don't see Clinton as any better than the Republicans at this point. The economy won't improve, she has no coattails to bring other Dems with her to the House and Senate, and the House and Senate won't work with her anyway so...no. I'm not voting for a shit sandwich. I've voted for my last "lesser evil".

The D in front of the name of the Clintons means nothing to me. I have no respect for them, despair of what they and their DLC/Third Way have done to the Democratic Party - which I left when they took it over, and have been very happy as an Independent. Have been voting for almost 50 years, for Democrats ( except NOT for Martha Coakley, which the MA Dems clung to like the DNC is clinging to Clinton.) While Coakley didn't have the baggage of the Clintons, she did have her savage attacks against Gerlad Amirault, MA Dems gave her the nomination twice, we got Senator Scott Brown in the Kennedy seat, and then Rep. Gov Charlie Baker. Well, tho, it was Her Turn, and she was a Woman, so of course, that explains it all!!!!

NO MORE CLINTONS! The Republicans were smart enough to get rid of their dynasty, if the Democrats aren't smart enough to nominate Bernie Sanders, then they don't deserve my vote. I will write in Bernie Sanders, and vote for qualified Democrats down ballot.

If the only way to wrest control of the Democratic party is to defeat the Clintons, then that's what we'll have to do. Short term consequences, we don't know, nothing could be worse than possibly 4 or 8 years of Clintons in the White House.

I will not be feared, guilted, shamed, SCOTUS'ed, threatened with doom, to vote for the Clintons.
As Lillian Hellman said:I cannot and will not cut my conscience to fit this year's fashions.

I will not support the DLC/DNC while it is controlled by the Clintons, their super pacs, their super delegates, their corruption.

We wouldn't have a country left, or an environment. She wants to fight (militarily) with everyone, including Russia & China. She'd sign away, to corporations, our ability to regulate anything to protect our food, working conditions, land, air. She clearly doesn't respect any laws that interfere with even her convenience. Or open records laws. What kind of Supreme Court would we get from someone who reveres Kissinger? Or someone who put extreme rightwingers (New American Century people) in charge of foreign policy? Trump might screw up our country, but he has opposed those things, so at least we might have an earth left.

Anyway, no more lesser evils. That still moves us in the wrong direction. Time to go where we should, for a change.

Bernie is our only chance.

Hillary is attempting to bill herself as the third term of Obama. Does anyone else here remember Obama's interview with Univision in December 2012 when he declared that his policies were those of a 1985 Reagan Republican? So, in other words, Hillary represents the FIFTH term of of the pollcies which have destroyed America's economy, and I'm not counting any other Republican's terms nor those of her husband.

My adult family members have decided -without any input from me- that they will write-in Bernie rather than vote for Hillary. He's the only hope for America, and as much as I respect Jill Stein (I voted for her in 2012), I will vote for hope over protest as long as there is any chance Bernie can win.

concerned, especially after she went scorched-earth against bernie & his supporters. she didn't have to do that, but when she did, she lost any chance of getting my vote in november if she's the nominee -- & fuck the scary-scotus trope. obama floated a fucking republican as his first nominee for scalia's seat, forchristsake! -- & i hate to think who her royal corporateness would pick. henry kissinger, probably Sad

I'm sixty-two, and twice voted for Republicans, both times when the Dem nominee was playing Republican. One Dem candidate, in the 90s, was anti-choice, while his R opponent was pro-choice. The other Dem candidate I voted against, in the 80s, sent out full color campaign brochures featuring a picture of him grinning and shaking hands with Ronald Reagan. There is nothing - NOTHING - I despise more than a person who calls him- or herself a Democrat while acting like a Republican.

This is why I will never vote for Hillary Clinton. I resent wolves in sheep's clothing. They're not only cruel, they're hypocritical.

is normalizing terrible ideas. That is what the power structure is trying to accomplish: to create a world with no options, a politics with no outside: the end of dissent. This is just how Washington works is the mantra of this philosophy.

It's not the Bush tax cuts; it's American taxation
It's not the Bush Iraq war: it's endless war/American foreign policy
It's not the Bush police state: it's the American legal system
It's not the Bush austerity economy: it's the American economy

The most dangerous candidate is the one best able to normalize terrible ideas.
Hillary Clinton is far and away the most dangerous candidate.

What motivated the author Bob Herbert to write that at that time?

Bill Clinton has been a disaster for the Democratic Party. Send him packing.
...
The Clintons are a terminally unethical and vulgar couple, and they've betrayed everyone who has ever believed in them.
As neither Clinton has the grace to retire from the scene, the Democrats have no choice but to turn their backs on them.

Strong words. I don't disagree with them. But as somehow nobody really said it that clearly in my memory, one learns to keep one's thinking to oneself. And yes, it's a couple's enterprise. They deserve each other, but do we deserve them? I don't think so. So, cut THEM loose is what needs to be done.

Apparently resigning is the hardest thing to do. Why? At least that would be decent and could make up for a lot of the vulgarity and unethical behavior they engaged in before and thereafter.

OK, I have thought hard on this one and I have decided Hillary has to be rejected. All the way. Everyone is playing bunch ball on the right because back in 2010 the Tea Party went nuclear with the "no vote" tactic. And that is what has brought us the GOP, who have dragged the third way dems, who have dragged the country way onto the right field. Hillary is clear she is playing the center of the bunch. Now a block of left wingers are breaking out into that wide open left field with the same tactic as the Tea Party. Hillary gets no vote regardless. She does not represent my interests, has failed to represent my interests, and promises to not represent my interests. I don't actually vote - I am not a citizen. But I live here, so my job is to persuade y'all to do my dirty work. devil emoticon This is because Bernie, even if he doesn't win the primary, has already started a revolution. I honestly think the large majority of America wants the country to go left and it is time to take a stand. I am not alone. And yes - I do love you all. The GOP has a violence supporting racist running and Hillary wants to play the middle ground with it. No. That is NOT how you fight for the good.

Posted on a conversation of a devout Hillary lover. So far only good responses - I am waiting for the other shoe.

Wow, opinion seems to be pretty unanimous in the comments. I'm not so sure is Trump is president if you will get to vote again. Not for "the lesser evil" or for a true progressive.

At this point the Democratic party is the old Republican party. The party of the socially liberal wing of Wall Street. The Republicans meanwhile have devolved into an American Fascist movement. Under those conditions I'd vote for the Republican, so that I could get to vote again for someone who really represents the people. Once Hitler gets in, don't think you will have space to build a movement. There is something to be said for defending democracy even if you have to get in bed with people you disagree with.

At the start of this primary, I already knew the Clintons were sold-out corporate shills who work ceaselessly to deliver what's left of my country to the financial aristocracy. However, as usual, I was prepared to vote for Hillary as a "lesser" of evils. I'm used to it, after all. I've been doing it for years. But then the lies and the smears started, the yelling, the finger-pointing, the browbeating - You're going to hell! You're a sexist! You're a racist! You are PERSONALLY going to destroy the country if you don't support me! -- and I decided that while I could eat a shit sandwich, I just couldn't get it down while the chef was screaming in my face. And I keep hearing that high-pitched cackle as she said "We came. We saw. He died." Ugh.
