There is no magic here ... and this is not an essay

but I would read this for better or worse.
Ex-Patient Kills Three at Veterans Center, Then Himself

YOUNTVILLE, Calif.—The gunman who killed three people who work for a California program that treats veterans for post-traumatic stress disorder was kicked out of the program, a relative of one victim said Friday.
...
Of all the medical institutions she has worked with, “this is the most placid, calm, serene place,” she said. Earlier this week, when she last visited, she asked a doctor, “What’s your magic here?”

There is no magic and if you start believing in it, you have lost.

Just saying. Have a good Sunday, all.

posting the link to the article is the following:
If you don't believe in magic, you would despair over the 'evil' and that could lead you to kill yourself, if you do believe in magic, then realize that the magical things you believed in betray you, you get so despaired and angry that it could lead to kill yourself as well.

So, what is better, to believe in magic or not to believe in magic?

Or believe in anything for that matter. One has to believe in something or not?

To believe or not to believe that's the question. A stupid question, because both options can lead you to kill yourself. May be to believe in magic and then get betrayed is worse, because there is the potential of anger in addition to despair and therefore the potential to kill others before you kill yourself.

So help me God, Amen. I have no clue. And I already feel bad to have posted this. Only my stubborn mind still keeps me away from erasing it. I am part of the 99 percent. Basta.

The place may indeed be magical - only meaning that it is calm and serene, a miraculous feat. Why was the shooter removed from the program? Not everyone can be healed?

The shooting is a tragedy, but the greater tragedy is the need for a large facility to treat PTSD victims. A sad story all around.

"Make dirt, not war." eyo

@mhagle There will be no definite answers. The veterans administration can not handle the volume of disorders caused by the US wars. Suicide levels: highest ever. Vets homeless, drug addicted, violent and disillusioned. The US government does not want the true cost of their wars to become public knowledge. Like always, sweep it under the rug and pretend trouble does not exist. It's the imperial way. Like agent orange in the vietnam era, PTSD cases are only an aberration. An example of the war torn's failure to adapt. No fault of the VA or The Dept. of War. Just individuals' weakness to cope.

I was trained as a scientist. I want evidence. However, sometimes germinating a seed...just add water...seems like magic.

...and I agree with Marilyn, it is probably a matter of understaffed and overworked. What a shame on so many levels.

@Lookout
but I can confirm that ... watching a seed to develop into a tiny plant is magic and it heals to watch it grow and care for it and can mellow down anger. For the VA staff overworked and understaffed ... may be, but there must be something else. I am searching for it.

Another shooter "off his meds". What meds, and why did he "go off"? Those should be the questions asked, the problems addressed, better than magic I think. Coincidentally I spent most of yesterday immersed in a Rune magic workbook, trying to make a spark. It was the darkest rune card cast I ever turned, all cards inverted, upside down. WTF

Can't find the link right now, nenni ekki, but did read the Las Vegas shooters brain size (Hippocampus part IIRC) was "startling". It did not specify too big, too small, shriveled up, or what. Also there is a really disturbing mutli-part article online somewhere, detailing the Colorado theater shooter's crash to insanity. His psychiatrist just kept upping the dose of anti-psychotics until he finally blew. So I wonder what his brain scans look like. Nobody asks, nobody questions, cruelty as a way of life.

Not to mention the most obvious gun control answer right in our effing faces, STOP THESE FUCKING WARS.

@eyo
absolutely agree with you on this. But again not able to comment on this reasonably as I am not a physician educated on the effects and side effects of the medication they prescribe. Just observing what I witnessed on several persons in the extended family.

@eyo

A number of these drugs cause brain shrinkage and psychosis. I won't get started on this...

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.

Well, if you kick out all of the veterans who most need help with PTSD, you probably have a more placid environment. At least until the untreated vets tossed out to not-cope on their own come back and shoot you for refusing them help they desperately needed...
