New to the site

I just wanted to say hi to everyone. I am new to this site and have been lurking/reading for the last couple of days before I signed up. I am so glad I found it! I thought I was going crazy for noticing all the psycho propaganda everywhere, and I am glad that I am not alone in noticing the complete craziness of it all.

Welcome Crazytimes...
glad to have you with us.
Edit to add: If you have any questions about the site structure, navigation, etc. just ask.
Social Maladjustment Disorder
Some people say Maladjustment to Society is crazy. I think Maladjustment is a good thing and c99p is a breath of fresh air. Welcome Crazytimes.

Don't get crazy about crazy folks in crazy times.
Welcome to the un-craziest pub around. Our de-crazy-fier is Joe's and other folks' music offerings. In case you hadn't noticed yet and need a little de-crazy-fying, I suggest you listen to ALL the music. That prevents you from reading ALL the news, which are usually so awful that it can only be healthy -
in addition to smart - to skip them. See?

I've noticed the Russia agit-prop is much more prevalent online
And in the media. IRL, not so much, unless you are speaking with other people who follow politics. For those who don't follow politics, and whose brains have not been scrambled by the media, they see it for what it is.
In fact the other day at work, I had a colleague make a joke, out of nowhere, about Putin being responsible for breaking the freezer. Then we both laughed about it.
Welcome to the site. Glad you stopped by to say hello.

In America, you break freezer....
In Russia, freezer breaks you.

The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?
Lol
I read that with Natasha and Boris in my head. Always loved that Bullwinkle show

In Russia you watch TV...
In America TV watch you...
Hail and well met indeed, Crazytimes!
JtC, the local Proprietor, said:
Of course, he's the expert in the site structure, navigation, etc., as they are his creations. You can ask that kind of question either privately or publicly; the rest of our populace are pretty good about helping too!
If you have a question about anything else, just ask (publicly in this case). We have considerable accumulated expertise on a variety of topics here. For just one example, I'm one of our local Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) evangelists; as part of the 99%, I can't afford to make the ilk of Bill Gates any richer! So I'm into FOSS alternatives like Linux and BSD. We also have experts in matters from organic farming to aircraft piloting.
While I'm at it: my username, thanatokephaloides, is pidgin Greek. I was aiming for "Dead Head" (as in Grateful Dead) but an error in translation left it closer to "Death Head". I needed to do this because older Dead heads than me had pretty much sewn up the userID "Dead Head" almost everywhere, including here.
But my "real name" is Sean, which is considerably easier to spell than "thanatokephaloides" is!
Anyway, Crazytimes, welcome to c99! I hope to hear lots more from you!

Hello and welcome...
Idle curiosity, how did you find us? Posts that JtC puts on the front page, I put on c99's Facebook page. There are exceptions to this rule, but then it wouldn't be me/us if I didn't go outside the box.
In any event, welcome and make yourself to home. Feel free to write and publish on any topic of interest to you.
"Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich."--Napoleon
@dkmich I think it was a link
If it was easy, everyone would do it.
In addition to our front page and Facebook,
we also post links to our essays on Twitter. I echo dkmich's question. She handles the Facebook page for Caucus99 and I handle the Twitter account for us. It would be nice to know if either of those platforms brought you to us.
Welcome and I hope you will contribute to our site, either with essays and/or comments. Formatting an essay is fairly easy here but if you need help, feel free to contact any of us. We do not always agree here and have had some very lively conversations in the past. The big thing is that we do agree that we can disagree without being disagreeable to one another. Our number one rule is to treat one another with respect.
Do I hear the sound of guillotines being constructed?

I post a link to this site on many others
Especially on the places I've been commenting on for years. I tell like minded thinkers to drop by and see what we're saying. Sigh, so many sites, so little time.
Welcome aboard, good to see you and tell your friends about us.
Thank you snoopy!

Did you mean to say
Your Rock? My avatar is a photo of a rock I found while rock hunting. Don't ask. It's one of my hobbies.
Isn't it cute?
I think your rock rocks. Maybe even rolls now and again...
Agree! No moss on that baby!
Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.
A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.
I admire your fortitude
In going to other sites. I assume you're not posting links to c99 at TOP. Lol

ToP posts our link for us
so I don't have too. No seriously, if someone posts something out of line and isn't buying the propaganda, they are told to crawl back to c99.
Right before I got bojo'd
TOP mockingly referred to c99 as a few tumbleweeds in a desert of nothing. So the fact that they are bothering to post our links now, I think rather flatters us. Don't know if JtC would agree, or thinks much about it, but their "interest" in us certainly isn't demonstrative of our supposed status of being a nothing burger.

Members will actually post a link to one of our essays
if someone is close to saying what we have said here. I get tempted to post "thanks for your help", but I refrain myself.
I love it!
We have been elevated to officially represent "The Opposition". Still alive and breathing even after the edicts of March.

It's much worse than the opposition
We're called the cranky alt-left just because we still want the things we've always wanted. Universal health care, wealth equality and to stop the f*cking wars! Them? Not these things. We know why they stopped wanting them.

Plus they are still holding a grudge because many of us
didn't vote for Her. Because of Her emails!!!! (said in the snottiness voice you can imagine)
They think that everyone owed Her their votes because of Trump. Gee, maybe if she hadn't gotten the media to focus so much on him, he might not have won the primary or the general. But no, Her was afraid that everyone else who was running would have beaten her.
They are still pissed at Bernie too because he had the audacity to point out that the democrats were basically the same as the republicans and no longer were helping the little people.
BTW, Zoe. Great essay.
Thanks snoopydawg
It feels like a hundred years since I wrote it.
Yes, I'm not surprised to hear that their go to response is to minimize our legitimate reasons for not voting for her. And just as they deny our agency to vote as we see fit, they simultaneously demonstrate the illegitimacy of their argument to "save" democracy.
There is always Music amongst the trees in the Garden, but our hearts must be very quiet to hear it. ~ Minnie Aumonier
We got a new mention today
Apparently the uranium one deal has been debunked. By whom? Who knows, but it has, so there! And we're very disappointed about it because Her wasn't involved with it attall and Bill wasn't really paid that $500,000 that people have said he was.
BTW, the progressive democrats say that it's a bad bill. Now I agree with them here. This is a very bad bill, but Dodd-Frank wouldn't even have to have been written if the democrats and Obama had reinstated Glass-Steagal when they had their chance during his first two years. But, ... sadly
It's okay that some democrats are voting for the bill
Why?
Because ...
At least the majority of the Dems are opposing this so we can label the Quislings as the Quislings they are. They are the ones hurting the Party.
This is like saying that I've only killed that guy who really, really made me mad, but not the other ones who just pissed me off. The ones who Are voting for it what people have a problem with! It's this simple.
They really sound like they make this shit up
as they go along, don't they?

"It's a Big Club. And you and I are not in it..."
His American Dream piece can not be overstated for its prescience or repeated too much. Every single person in this country should have this, and not the Pledge Of Allegiance, committed to memory.
When Occupy came about I thought Carlin's whole trajectory of work, but especially his last HBO Special "It's Bad For Ya" (2008), presaged the movement's core philosophy pretty eerily, or should I say brilliantly. His whole philosophy of questioning authority, sniffing out bullshit, exposing lies and fake language and not believing your government, was pretty much the whole premise of Occupy.
"If I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph:
THE ONLY PROOF HE NEEDED
FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GOD
WAS MUSIC"
- Kurt Vonnegut
You can't get anymore succinct than this
Thanks for posting this. Maybe we should set the entire piece to music, get a few hundred people together, storm the field of the Super Bowl, take a knee and sing this during the national anthem?

This needs more exposure, Mark
I'm afraid it might get lost so far down this thread that's about to slip off the first page.
They have definitely gotten this!
You know what they want?
They want obedient workers. Obedient workers:
People who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork. And just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shitty jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it.
I see so many comments from people saying that the big companies that employ so many people deserve to keep more of their money because they create jobs. If they are taxed more than they are now they will take their companies out of the country. So what if they do? They can still be taxed at a higher rate because they still have to do business here. Apple and other companies kept their money offshore until congress let them bring it back here at a lower tax rate. Why did they eventually bring it back here? I don't remember. But they did for some reason.
Please post this again another day. It's brilliant. I hadn't heard of it before.
Welcome aboard!
It's a great site with great people. Welcome!
Welcome and you're not alone.
For me the moment when I realized I wasn't alone was Bernie.
I'm glad you found us here. I hope that what you'll find is an actual reality based community. In general we try. We don't always get it right but you'll find a lot less ideology here than you do in most places and a lot more citations and facts. Many of the great writers on this site spend their day unspinning MSM.
I hope you'll find that any viewpoint is welcome here so long as you can support your viewpoint with underlying facts. We are not Democrats, Republicans, Liberals, Conservatives, or anti-war people. We have most or all of those segments represented. Bring your facts to the table and lets talk!
A lot of wanderers in the U.S. political desert recognize that all the duopoly has to offer is a choice of mirages. Come, let us trudge towards empty expanse of sand #1, littered with the bleached bones of Deaniacs and Hope and Changers.

Welcome Crazytimes
Lots of good stuff here; good people and good ideas.
This shit is bananas.
Coming in from the Cold?
Taking cover from the Russia Hoax is a good enough reason for your visit.
We have all experienced US propaganda over the years. And we've experienced short but intense propaganda bursts, like those that push People into accepting heinous foreign-nation destruction and human slaughter. (War is too good a word for what the US does.)
But what's going on now is a First — a fiercely sustained propaganda blast coming in from every direction. What has it been? Eighteen months of gale-force bullshit? Meanwhile, all forensic evidence that we've seen and all testimony from those directly involved in the actual leak, like Julian Assange, tells us the propaganda is a lie. A really infantile and obvious lie. We, here, are fully aware that Americans are clinging to the only thing they have: the word of the propaganda pushers — the very same characters that have blatantly lied to them for decades about wars, war crimes, corruption, and surveillance. They are the authors of this nation's current horrors.
We talk about the Russia Hoax because it is preposterous beyond belief. But this community also focuses on many interests and concerns, political and otherwise. Hope you feel free to jump in.
BTW, considering what the US is heading into, geopolitically, the Elite Cartel that runs the US has no choice but to double down on their dangerous narrative, again and again. There's nowhere else for them to go. They have blasted past all the exit ramps. Even with their narrative in disarray, they will demand it be believed and obeyed. I have no doubt they would hit this nation with a false flag attack if that's what it takes to preserve the chaos of the Russian Hoax. Their global dictatorship is at stake, here. So, it's probably just as well that American journalists betrayed the nation (and hung on their jobs). We might just have to suck this up for our own protection. Just sayin'.
I think it's reasonable to say we have a coup government — one that is unrecognizable to most of the world.
Russian propaganda actually started before Her lost
It started with the Ukraine coup when we overthrew its government and then said that Russia was being the aggressor. Threw in that he invaded Crimea and whola, big bad Russia was born.
Here's an excellent article describing what actually happened and how it was the Great Black (and White) Hope that did it.
Fire and Fury in Ukraine
There is a video that goes with this article. I'm half way through it and highly recommended watching it. Damn this country for what it does to people who aren't Americans!
Did it ever really stop though?
This shit is bananas.
Good point
Guess not. It sure has been put on steroids since Her had to go hiking in the woods though.
Yes, you are correct.
I did comment at the time on the unprecedented blast of propaganda that began in Ukraine. Americans, whether they know it or not, have never experienced anything like it. I guess that why Congress had to pass that emergency Bill making it legal for the government to brainwash the American people. They needn't have bothered.
I thought the propaganda storm began to build when the US deliberately trapped Ed Snowden in Russia as he was changing planes. Then, the US demanded that Putin hand him over to the US. Right. The first ever Russian extradition of a political prisoner to the US. Why not? The US weaponized Snowden against Russia to get the ball rolling. Then, the Ukraine coup quickly followed. But I was thinking the Ukraine hysteria was dying down, especially as there was not a single shred of evidence. The US never released the satellite photos of Russia invading Ukraine. They never released the satellite photos of Russia invading Crimea. They never released the satellite photos of flight MH 17 being shot down. They say their four geostationary satellites parked over Ukraine were closed for maintenance on those days. Not that it matters.
The election-meddling Russia Hoax, however, was and is an absolute tsunami of coordinated propaganda aimed at the American people. I'm amazed they can walk upright in the ongoing maelstrom.
Dumping Snowden in Russia was a two fer
First it got people to say that he stole the NSA secrets and gave them to Putin and then they wanted people to be upset with him because he was reading all of our secrets.
I'm still reading that it was Russia that invaded Ukraine and shot down the airplane that was actually done by the Ukraine military. WSWS and other websites have debunked that story. Funny how people won't admit that our sh*t stinks.
Great point, Pluto
@snoopydawg Thanks for posting
If it was easy, everyone would do it.
Glad that you're enjoying it
Pretty amazing, isn't it? How we put the most evil bastards in power and then sit back and watch as they brutalize their citizens.
I plan on making and essay as
I plan on making and essay as soon as soon as I can organize all the thoughts going through my mind right now. Then I can give everyone a little history of my political life and how I have come to be in the place I am now. I am curious to know if others have had an experience similar to mine. Thank you all for the welcome! I have always been a person who is open to new ideas if a proper argument can be given. I tend to believe that there is rampant cognitive dissidence in our country and I pray every day for more to wake up and see what is right in front of their eyes.
If it was easy, everyone would do it.
Former Deaniac and now
Berniecrat here. I found ToP after the "Dean Scream" (more manipulative bull$h!t) broke up many of the Dean sites and sent Deaniacs scattering. Someone mentioned ToP and I registered there that day.
I somehow found this place during Her campaign. Not sure really how that happened, but I was here over 6 months, maybe a year, when I got bojo'd there at ToP and became a regular here.

Lots of ex-dailykoser's here.
Couldn't stand the gangs, mass tar and feathering, and knee-high bull shit at that place. It went to hell right after Bubba bought Kos at his blogger lunch in Harlem. Bernie was the straw too far, pardon the mixed metaphor. We built this place because we knew we had to get the hell out of there before the infamous purge. I was addicted. Thought I would miss dkos. Turns out not one GD bit. I don't even go back there to read. I never got bojo'd. I wanted to bojo them.

Waaaaayyyyy too much truth for dkos
I also got bojo'd for speaking the truth. I couldn't stand the cognitive dissonance anymore. My head was ringing like a bell at that site.
It was fascinating to watch them gradually and almost imperceptibly change from a progressive left, anti-war, pro-health care blog to a corporatist, war-mongering, status-quo, personality cult during Obama's second term. It really went wacko when it was decided Her Heinousness was to be enthroned.
