Friday Photography - At The Beach
Submitted by janis b on Fri, 03/02/2018 - 6:31pm
Evening all.
The sands here have varying amounts of iron present due to past volcanic activity. This beach on the harbour has some, but not as much as the beaches around the corner on the ocean side.
The extent of their magnetic properties introduced itself in a very memorable way. On my sister’s first visit I brought her to a wild west coast beach where she found and collected many tiny, blue, Moonshells. Since very fine sand naturally deposits itself everywhere, like inside tiny blue shells and pockets, when my sister pulled out the shells from her pocket to admire again the tiny shells were all stuck together in a bundle … because of the iron in the sand.

The top photo looks like a walking frog monster is
on its way to.... something. The second one looks like a laughing Buddha is sitting on the rock stack. And wow, that tree! Is that Foghorn from the lord of the rings?
Very nice. Thank you for the frozen waves. Very cool.

yes! laughing Buddha
Maybe indeed from the Lord of the Rings. It's pretty magical there. You are welcome. I saw the waves and thought of those photos of the frozen waves you posted.

Hi magiamma
The rock garden looks like a gathering of the tribe, and is so animated looking.
So many rock stacks made
by so many people. One of them had a pen on the top and many had pieces of papers with writing on them stuck in the rocks. Each stack is like a small sculpture.

Cool looking rock garden, Magiamma
I used to go to the boardwalk in Santa Cruz when I was a kid growing up in the bay area. Never got to Pogonip. Next time I'm up that way I'll have to check it out.

Janis I love the composition

Thank you
Sand perfectly smoothed by the tide and beautifully sculpted sandstone is a treat to see.
Thanks for Fri. photos tonight, Janis

Hi social
I really like the green and golden colours. And it's really interesting to see the action contained in some kind of receptacle like the wine glass.
Hi, Janis
The wine glass shot was fun to do but it was time consuming and messy.
I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
You need a smock,
or a wetsuit.
No wetsuit needed,
just a lot of paper towels and a couple of hours of time. I had to shoot over thirty frames before I got that shot. After each frame I had to empty the glass, dry the glass and all the water that spills over onto the table top, then reposition the glass and refocus the camera. Time consuming and messy.
I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
... and the you had to go wash and dry the dinner dishes ; )
Seriously though, thank you for describing your process. I would not have thought of all the detail involved. On top of it you would have to have been so careful with glass the whole time. Cheers to you.
Wow, how do you get those colors?
This shit is bananas.
Hi, Daenerys

Well, I love them all
I like the reflection in the third one and the powerful movement in the first one. Daring pour of wine. It looks like fun Social!

Thank you Magiamma
True confession, the second shot isn't wine, just water with red food coloring.

smart move, I thought you should have drunk the wine
for your own good.
Great photos. Indeed.

I'm talking dawgs
This is Abby's BFF and they have so much fun playing together. Just watching them play together brings smiles and laughs.
"What do you want to do?"
"Let's run real fast."
"Way fun, now what? Let's play catch."
"I'm tired."
"Now what do you want to do ...?"
Both dawgs hold on to their toy and run with it until I can get one of them to bring it back to me to throw again.

Fun photos snoopy
Look how perfectly synchronised their running is in the 3rd photo!
Too funny Snoopy
What good friends they are. And how very sweet. I already love them.

Hmm. Maybe it's the drugs
Janis, is that a fish or a chicken?
SP, the first photo looks like a spider.
Anyone else seeing a pattern here, or is it just me?

That's what I asked myself
when I saw it through the lens. It was some birds fish dinner.
I meant that I'm seeing weird things in every photo
tonight. Rock frogs, laughing Buddha, fish-chicken and the spider. Oh well, at least the dawgs look like dawgs.
Mm, drugs
Thanks for hosting tonight.
Yes there legs are synchronized. I have so many photos of them. Abby sits by the fence watching for her friend to get there.

"At least the dawgs look like dawgs" ; )
And what a joy it must be for you to watch them having such pure fun together.
Hi, Snoopy
I like your first shot of the dogs in silhouette and the synchronized bodies in the third shot is great.
I see a hula dancer or a whirling dervish in my first shot.

They are actually running as fast as they can in that photo
Watching them you can feel their bond of friendship. I feel bad for Abby when her friend doesn't come to play. She just looks at me and you can tell what she's thinking.

Hey Janis
Thanks for hosting.
A shot of the most recent dump of snow (last week):
Downtown from a couple of years ago:
Fred, newly invested with the red ribbon of the Order of the Bath:
Gëzuar!!
from a reasonably stable genius.
Wow! That's a lot of snow
This looks like how much we got last year. We were supposed to be hit today with up to 10 inches, but it only got my car dirty. How much did you get?
Sir Fred is getting big.

Well, that's a shot of accumulated snow from several weeks,
but we got ten inches or so last weekend.
Sir Fred is indeed expanding.
Gëzuar!!
from a reasonably stable genius.
Fred is adorable,
no matter what position he's in, or what he's adorned with. I hope he appreciates the honour.
His face always has a look of curiosity and anticipation.
Really, Fred is so adorable...
And clearly not a bit spoiled. We finally got some rain here after one of the driest winters ever. I just hope they keep coming. Think good thoughts.

Hi Janis, everyone
Love the beach photos. I can't wait until the lakes thaw here and I can go look for loons.
Finally some new bird photos! We've had some horned larks hanging out on our driveway this last week:
They're all over the country roads as well. We went driving around a bit and saw a bunch of pheasants the other day, but I wasn't able to photograph them. I will keep trying.
We also saw a bunch more redpolls in our yard tonight, when hubby and I went out to help with the evening chores. They flew up into a tree and I said go get the binoculars! Then I could see they were redpolls and it made me happy to see a bunch more of them. Only took that one about four months to bring its friends, haha. I think They've been around for a few days too, I could hear them chirping and chittering in the trees but I thought it was the juncos. I'll try to get some more photos of them too. Always fun when the birds come to me!
Anyway, these swans were in our neighbors' field yesterday, right close to the road:
My best photo of a common goldeneye so far:
This shit is bananas.
Beautiful photo of the Goldeneye
We have an abundance of finches now which you correctly identified some weeks ago. They are multiplying. I have to fill the feeders twice a day now. The weather is so wonky that I am hoping I am helping them to survive.

Thanks Daenerys
I love the photos of the swans facing the sun, and the goldeneye especially. Is that ice or frozen bubbles behind the goldeneye?
It's ice
This shit is bananas.
This is as close as I can find of the bird I asked about
last week. Except the red on the head was more on its face, the colors were brown and white on its back and grey and white on its tail. Plus it was larger and not as fluffy. Any ideas?
Meant to reply to Danny.
Glad to see the birds coming back to your world.

Hard to say without a photo.
This shit is bananas.
Oh, I almost forgot
Not mine, but this rare yellow cardinal has been seen in Alabama:
Pretty interesting!

More 9/11 stuff from Insider.
One, CIA and others knew about 9/11 months before it happened. Hell, they practically planned it.
Two, the planes were hijacked. By CIA operatives, not jihad mofos. Planes hit buildings.
Three, Saddam, Iraq sought peace with U.S., bent over backwards to comply, to end sanctions.
Four, CIA wanted just the opposite - war with Iraq.
Five, Towers were dropped like Clay dropped Sonny Liston. Bombs were set just 2 weeks before.
