Seth Rich Boulevard to Open in Moscow
The lovely tree-studded Bolshoy Devyatinsky Lane in Moscow is getting a new name. In a ceremony in early March it will be renamed Seth Rich Boulevard in Honor of Seth Conrad Rich, the slain activist who leaked the derogatory emails of the Democratic National Committee that proved election rigging against Hillary Clinton's presidential opponent, Bernie Sanders.
Rich was killed near the White House a year and a half ago. He was not robbed. He was conscious and speaking when the police arrived, but it is unknown what he said. The Democratic Committee worker was shot by an unknown assailant(s) just days before he was to testify in a lawsuit brought against the DNC for election rigging during the Democratic Primaries — and twenty days after it was learned that the downloaded emails were in the hands of Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange. The DNC has denied any involvement in his murder, which has never been solved by the police or the FBI, who are still in possession of Rich's personal computer..
"The Moscow City Council approved, unanimously and on an emergency basis (pending passage of permanent legislation), the re-naming of the portion of Bolshoy Devyatinsky Lane in front of the US Embassy to honor slain democracy activist Seth Conrad Rich," reads a January press release.
The bill's sponsor, Councilwoman Ivanka Karloff, told Reuters News the bill was not related to accusations of Russian election interference in the 2016 US Presidential election.
Yeah. That didn't happen.
But here's what did happen:
Dozens of attendees gathered for an official ceremony renaming a portion of Wisconsin Ave. NW as "Boris Nemtsov Plaza" in honor of a top Putin critic who was murdered in 2015 after calling for rallies against Putin's government.
Nemtsov was killed near the Kremlin three years ago. The top Putin critic was shot by an unknown assailant just days before he planned to take part in a peace rally against Russia's involvement in Ukraine. The Kremlin has denied any involvement in his murder.
Tuesday's ceremony follows a unanimous vote last month to rename the plaza, a vote that the bill's sponsor, Councilwoman Mary Cheh, told The Associated Press was not related to allegations of Russian election interference.
"The Council also approved, unanimously and on an emergency basis (pending passage of permanent legislation), the re-naming of the portion of Wisconsin Avenue in front of the Russian Embassy to honor slain democracy activist Boris Nemtsov," reads a January press release.
I sent this as a suggestion to the Russian Embassy in DC. But you know how Putin is. He doesn't engages in petty political bullshit like the US does.
Maybe this time will be different. Stay tuned.
Comments
Before long, lots of Muscovite streets will be renamed
just to stick it in the face of our deep state dipshits. They might rename streets after MLK Jr, RFK, etc in front of U.S. buildings. Maybe Seth Rich Plaza will have at least two bike racks.
Oh fer chrisakes.
Well, at least they didn't name it Pussy Riot Plaza.
The Russia-haters loves them some Pussy Riot.
We wanted decent healthcare, a living wage and free college.
The Democrats gave us Biden and war instead.
Nah. They just love basted chicken.
Pussy Riot
Ride easy there, Arizona fellow! I loves me some Pussy Riot, too!
The ladies of Pussy Riot are some serious anarcha-socialists. If the American Russoclasts were paying attention, they'd run as far from Pussy Riot as their tiny hands would take them!
This is most vehemently not #metoo or Hillary Clinton we're talking about here!

I don't know that much about their politics,
but I read that what they got in trouble for was outraging the babushkas in an Orthodox church.

outraging the Orthodox Church

And yes, they did get in trouble for sacrilege when they invaded the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour on February 21, 2012.
I have a soft spot in my heart for anarchistic activists......

@thanatokephaloides
At least they weren't tackled, flung to the ground, piled upon, beaten and pepper-sprayed/shot by the (non-militarized) police arresting them, as happens in the good old US of A. Just arrested for disturbing the peace outside a church, as would have been planned as part of the public-attention-drawing protest action.
So, yeah, I like Pussy Riot and am glad that they were in no danger of the sort of often-violent repression suffered by peaceful American protesters doing nothing illegal at all, just exercising their Constitutional rights in petitioning their government for redress against injustice - to be met with more.
Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.
A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.
No kidding
I wonder how many of those American Russoclasts have watched this classic performed by several members of Pussy Riot. I've always wondered how Americans would have responded to Pussy Riot if their "art" was performed at the Smithsonian's Museum of American History or the Washington National Cathedral?
WARNING: EXPLICIT SEXUAL ACTS. DO NOT CLICK IF YOU ARE READILY OFFENDED.
Fuck for the heir Puppy Bear!
that's
Voina, not Pussy Riot. A woman who would later become a Pussy Rioter, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, did participate; she was quite pregnant at the time. I fail to see what is the problem: are we against fucking now?
See the post I am responding to.
When was the US EVER for fucking in public to make a political statement?
There are a lot of American supporters of Pussy Riot ONLY because of it's anti-Putin propaganda value. These people would not support Pussy Riot if any of their agi-prop was performed in the US.
The "everybody fucks each other" is a legacy of 1990's Russia when the US was, literally and figuratively raping and pillaging the country. The death rate in Russia soared. People were starving. Many Russian women (even young girls) resorted to prostitution to help their families put food on their tables.
Abby Martin interviews Mark Ames. When Ames was running a newspaper in Moscow, he ran an article about testing Viagra. He wanted to test how many Russian prostitutes he could fuck on one dose of Viagra.

i'm not
talking about the US, I'm talking about this site: are we supposed to get the vapors because Voina fucked in a political action? Which, I'm sorry, was not about the 1990s, but about Medvedev; among other things, his call for an increase in the national birth rate. Hence the fucking: isn't that how one increases the birth rate?
People fuck all the time in the Smithsonian. Haven't you? This book will tell you all about it. And I wish someone would go to the altar of the National Cathedral and plug in and play "Mother Of God, Drive Trump Away." Wanna join me?
Mother of God, Drive Trump Away
With regards to Pussy Riot and its ilk, my point exactly! But your Bookfinder link brings back multiple titles. Which one is the fuckers' guide to the Smithsonian?
If I had the cash, I'd do better than that: I'd fully sponsor the offering of a full High Mass with the deliverance of our nation from all conservatives, neolibs, and neocons as the principal intention.
On the Second Sunday of Easter (the Sunday immediately following Easter Sunday).
Divine Mercy Sunday.

n.b.: The Catholic references are here for a reason: the "National Cathedral" is a Catholic Cathedral, the Seat of the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of the US Military Services, the prelate over every Catholic Military Chaplain in the country.

Can't you fucking read what I'm responding to?
If I thought people here would get "the vapors" I wouldn't have posted the video.
Pussy Riot wouldn't get far in the US.
i think
they're doing pretty well.
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXctA2BqF9A]
First North American tour ever, starts in Chicago. heh
Pussy Riot’s message got them jailed in Russia. Now they’re bringing it to the U.S.
Can't see what vids y'all have posted right now, the tube is blocked but I thought their "Straight Outta Vagina" video was powerful. Pussy caps are not powerful, they are the fake abs of feminist protest in my view. Sanctioned protests are like a picnic nowadays... "what are you going to where?" meh
Great. That's where they belong.
It's the American way. Do something notorious then rake in the bucks in the entertainment scene. American MSM and US State Department played them like puppets on a string for their propaganda value. Now they get their rewards. As long as they stick to the concert circuit they will enjoy America's "freedom" to the max. Maybe even become American citizens by having their convictions overlooked by immigration.
Here's how it went down in Putin's big bad police state Russia.
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grEBLskpDWQ]
I'm really disappointed with the Russian cops performance. Not one body slam to the marble floor. Of course the courts made up for this by giving a long jail sentence - just what they needed to give their careers a big boost. From rags to riches in less than two years.
What do you think would happen if Pussy Riot did some agi-prop at the Jefferson Memorial? They could do a nice song and dance routine about the American police state preventing Americans from being able to do what the fuck they want, wherever the fuck they want.
Here's a fair game turn-about from RT.
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWeF6lwg4aY]
Maybe Pussy Riot can perform a gig in the House of Representatives and the Pentagon? Some advice though, they should wear bullet-proof vets.
first
you opine "Pussy Riot wouldn't get far in the US," then, presented with the reality that isn't true, you complain they are "rak[ing] in the bucks in the entertainment scene."
Anyone interested in "how it went down in Putin's big bad police state Russia" should try this: those who don't already understand that your comment that "the courts made up for this by giving a long jail sentence—just what they needed to give their careers a big boost" is repulsive and shameful, will understand it then.
That the "MSM and US State Department played them like puppets on a string" is false. They are puppets for no one. They swallow no bullshit, whether "USA! USA! USA!" or "We Wuv Putie!" As Tolokonnikova last year wrote:
fuck this shit
And now you see why I like them!

Pussy Riot would not now be touring in the US/UK
if it wasn't for the propaganda value of their jail term.
If you think any of the crap written by Russophobe Masha Gessen holds any weight for me, you are sadly mistaken. In fact, it works in the exact opposite way.
Pussy Riot's value for anti-Russia propaganda has been expended. The MSM will now ignore them.
your loss
Gessen is smarter, more informed, and a better writer than anyone on this site. Or anyone churning out rubbish for the two trash-heaps to which you link. She is in exile because the government was coming after her children: she is a lesbian, and she and her wife are raising adopted children; now a no-no, back there in the wonderland.
Looks like I'm right back in DKos with the neo-McCarthyists
No you're not.
You're being deliberately stalked by an essay destroyer.
Walk away.
IMAGINE if you woke up the day after a US Presidential Election and headlines around the the world blared, "The Majority of Americans Refused to Vote in US Presidential Election! What Does this Mean?"
???
Why are criticisms of aspects of Russian culture and politics such a sore spot here?
I don’t think Masha Geesen, and her criticisms of Russia should be negated from consideration. One may not agree with her perspective, but she certainly has one very closely related to reality. With reflection, shouldn’t there be a valid place for her experience?
I have no opinion on the topic one way or the other.
IMAGINE if you woke up the day after a US Presidential Election and headlines around the the world blared, "The Majority of Americans Refused to Vote in US Presidential Election! What Does this Mean?"
Okay
If or when you do, I'd like to hear.
Quite telling
the legislators that vote for this charade.
Petty and imbecilic. Let them brand themselves for all to see.
Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.
Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.
LOL - you had me. I hope Putin listens.

Just when I thought the US of A could sink no lower,
we now have more proof
the
Russian legislator Mikhail Degtyaryov has proposed renaming Bolshoy Devyatinsky Lane, North American Dead End. It is said Moscow city officials are considering it.
^ Slow clap!
Dead end
The Russian Dead heads would take the joint over. Or the Moskva Curling clubs; they could flood the lane late in the autumn and when the Russian Winter turned the water to ice, they could play limitless no-score practice games, producing dead Ends without limit!

I thought Americans hated all things Russian?
But now they are going to rename a street after one? Petty, indeed.
There were problems with running a campaign of Joy while committing a genocide? Who could have guessed?
Harris is unburdened of speaking going forward.
Nyet!
Nyet, tovarisch!
Amerikantsy love Russian music, drama, dance, food, alcohol (!) and many other things.
And we agree that cynical skepticism is the proper attitude towards State power, American or Russian!

Kim Dotcom on Seth Rich
well, well, well,
a few days ago I posted an article from Zero Hedge which mostly relied on the info from Kim Dotcom, the maker of megaupload who has been charged with the largest copyright penalty in history for his file sharing program (like a Xerox machine) and has a huge legal effort to not be brought to the US for trial. He lives in New Zealand.
Here are some things that are new to me. They are probably old hat for those who have followed the case in detail. When I posted the last time I said that I didn't see any good reason for Kim to lie.
Donna Brazile in the dedication of her book on the DNC praised Seth and she said that after he was murdered she took actions to protect herself.
When at work at the DNC Seth wore panda T-Shirts. Remember the panda.
I searched for stuff and found that the #sethrich has been active right now. As I composed this there are 14 new tweets.
I had seen some tweets from kim dotcom but had not seen this statement which was posted on his web site. I changed the format from the size of the letters.
Meanwhile ...
Back at the
ranchinsane asylum:Kushner security clearance is downgraded (CNN).
Not saying I disagree with the decision ... but I can think of another security clearance that clearly should have been stripped, and wasn't. Had it been, #RussiaGate would never have been born.
Oh, heads would explode if that happened
What are they, 3 year olds? How petty is this?
BTW, Seymour Hersh says that Seth was the one who gave the DNC files to Wikileaks. FWTW.
There were problems with running a campaign of Joy while committing a genocide? Who could have guessed?

Thanks for the cross-post!
WayoftheBern thanks you for the cross-post, but it won't show for anyone following your link who isn't a member here. You might want to give us some excerpts as teasers.

It's probably just as well, Thumb
I had second thoughts about posting this there and bringing trouble to your terrific sub, given the general crackdown on fake news. Fake News is exactly what this is.
Most writers here do write the real deal when it comes to news and opinion, and I encourage c99p members to crosspost at Way of the Bern. They are our good friends and supporters at Reddit, and have a large and growing audience.

broken link
Then the linkage is broken and needs to be checked into, as nothing published here on c99 is "members only".
This link to this Essay should bring it up for all comers regardless, no ID required. Please let me know if it doesn't work. If it doesn't, reporting the difficulty to reddit's admins may also be called for here.

Edited because of cleverly using bolding instead of block-quotes, this possibly related to laughing too hard to type straight, although I do have a knack for that anyway.
US citizen activism works better and gains more respect in Russia than the US... that part isn't so amusing...
