Rethinking My Career
It's become quite obvious to me that the tech world will always be denied to me in terms of career or livelihood, and all because of things I deal with on a daily basis that are well beyond my ability to control. I started seeing this years ago, yet I chose to live in denial all that time. And I went through quite a bit only to find out the barrier to entry is impossible to break.
I certainly don't want to go back to customer service because no employer would put up with my antics nor would they tolerate me chasing away people who go out of their way to troll those who serve them just to get their rocks off.
I can't go into construction because I'd be in too much pain by mid-day and after to fulfill any other obligations. Hell, that goes for almost all jobs that require one to be on their feet all day long. Even bagging at a grocery store can kick your ass physically when things such as hemiplegia and double shifts are involved.
I'm still doing my home business but I doubt I'll ever have many customers because I refuse to use Facebook or Twitter for self promotion.
I'll admit, baking and environmental work like planting trees or surveying land have always fascinated me. I'd love to do something involving either of those since what I actually wanted is completely closed off to me.
Ideas welcome.
See ya around,
Aspie

Hey Aspie!
I've long thought you'd make an excellent writer ... though of course the livelihood part of that is somewhat unpredictable.
Baking, huh? Do you live in a state with supportive cottage industry legislation? If so, you may be onto something. I just bought a book, called Homemade for Sale (Lisa Kivirist and John D. Ivanko) that walks you through the entire process of making a living from your own kitchen. Check it out!
A lot of people have said that over the years.
But I honestly don't see it. And besides, I could never live up to the likes of Abby Martin, Caitlin Johnstone or Richard Wolff. And I'd be fuckin' terrible at interviews because I hate people who beat around the bush.

I think you sell yourself short.

Cool!
Thanks for the link!
This shit is bananas.
there are
treeplanting jobs, but they sound like maybe they're Hell. You could maybe try working in a tree/plant nursery instead. There are quite a few around here in which the workers seem happy.
Baking, for a living, would require you be on your feet much of the day. Hot, too. On the upside, you would get arms like Popeye, from the kneading. There is a version of French hearth bread that demands you knead it for thirty minutes. That is like a marathon, for the arms.
That's what a mixer is for.
Even at my last job we didn't knead by hand; the mixer did all of the kneading, and we just folded the dough before cutting and forming it.
This shit is bananas.
consider organizing a local co-op
There is a fair amount of how-to info available. We have food co-ops, health care sharing, ride sharing around here. I dream of creating a barter based labor sharing type co-op. Requires a lot of networking, but can become a supporting position. Food for thought.
question everything
You are a good writer with Tech Know-how
My nephew has a tech degree but got a job with a small tech firm as a writer. I don't know much more but I'll try and find out. I guess they need writers!
If that helps any...
Right!
There aren't any leads for that in Flawer'Duh.

Hm.
(Honest question; I've never looked too deeply into it).

Good luck, Aspie
Self-employment and co-ops seem to be the way to go these days. I'm a lot like you--can't handle retail because I don't take bullshit from corporate or customers. I liked my last job so much because I didn't have to deal with customers, and then transferred to a franchise location. Naturally corporate hated me, because I knew my rights.

Baking is a very rewarding occupation. And I'd be happy to answer any questions you have! I'm trying to do the same thing, though I've only sold one cake since moving back home. But I'm not giving up! I don't advertise on social media either; I mean why invest money in advertising if I'm not getting any business right? So for now I'm relying on word-of-mouth. Ultimately I want to have my own shop one day; if I needed employees I'd hire you and a friend of mine in a heartbeat and pay decently. My friend has cerebral palsy and has trouble holding jobs but she's also very artistic, so I like to think some day I'll be able to offer her a job. I can dream anyway.
Are you still doing the media converting thing you talked about before? Who says you can't do both!
This shit is bananas.
I get work with that here and there.
It gets me a bit of extra but that's about it. These days you can't make a living unless you're born into it.

That's true.
Well, I don't know what else to tell you.

I talked with my nephew
He started as a help desk analyst helping people with their problems or sending them elsewhere when the problems were more complicated. From there he moved upwards into quality control. Maybe you could target help desk positions at tech firms. Keep plugging away at it!
