Please: Crossposts Needed!

Hi Everyone!

I haven't been cross-posting here nearly as much as I wanted to, being slammed at work and trying to keep on top of WayoftheBern has been demanding.

We get StevenD cross-posts (thank you!) but we're drifting into the inevitable dominance of linked articles that makes up too much of reddit, and I'd like to reverse that trend.

C99 is something of a reciprocal image, where you have so many great original content writers. So... please consider cross-posting your editorials and essays with us too. Here's a handy submission link:

https://www.reddit.com/r/WayOfTheBern/submit?selftext=true

As mods we're always looking for original writing material to promote to the top of our page, and more than half of what I see here would easily qualify.

We also have another issue, should anyone wish to help. Downvote brigades. Our growing popularity (now the 2nd highest progressive/Sanders sub by traffic) has drawn the attention of regular "minders" who are keyword alerted to what would be popular posts so they can quickly team downvote them to prevent posts like this one from being picked up by Reddit's front page.

With the election coming, and it's looking like Bernie might run again, there's a lot of desperation to undermine subs that don't hew to the Party line. We're in their faces fighting back. They hate that. Help us!

Thanks!

~Thumb

Our reddit minders were able to stop this from going viral:

We do a good job but reddit is larger. We must cooperate to isolate the other side (mostly DNC).

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

@riverlover If I came here to alert people of specific posts that need help I'd be violating Reddit rules against "vote manipulation."

An employment judge friend once described the difference in what is or isn't allowed as the difference between holding a gun to someone's head, or declaring there's a bomb in the room.

Nope. We have our setting set to open. Anyone can vote regardless of subscription.

that attract the minders? Posters could spell the keywords backwards if they knew what they were.

@Nastarana We've run a few tests where we'll post the identical link, but with different titles. Spelling Russia with an emoticon for the 'a' left that post untouched while it's twin, minutes apart, was heavily brigaded. Words that are obvious headline brigade bait are Russia, Seth Rich, Assange, wikileaks, and of course anything with Hillary or DNC.

@Thumb Instead you can visit Markos Moosetit's gang or even watch Joy Reid? We don't down vote here as you know. Reddit is getting "facebooked" with their trolling and censorship.

Personally I don't enjoy Dash 1

A case study in how thoroughly Reddit has been corrupted by Shareblue:

This post, after 12 minutes: 14 upvotes, 23 views, and at 100%

After 34 minutes: 11 upvotes, 193 views, 59%

After 42 minutes: 1 upvote, 272 views, 51%

After 60 minutes: 0 upvotes, 383 views, 49%

When this was first dropped as a comment near the bottom of a thread yesterday, it got 44 upvotes. When it was first posted here it spiked to 14 upvotes and the top of our Hot page after minutes.

There's a concerted effort to control what people see, and they camp on r/rising. If we weren't here to pin posts that they successfully downvote off of a sub's hot page, few regulars would even see this. I assume this is repeated across the Bernie subs.

Reddit is broken.

That very wise man is you, your very own self, Thumb; and you are entirely right here.

Your last sentence in the above quote is missing a word, however: the word "irretrievably". Like Daily Kos before it, reddit has empowered mobs of asses/dicks to censor what the general public can and cannot find to read. Once this breaks out, -- and it clearly has on reddit -- there's no real way to un-do it.

So the crossposting that would do you the most good, in my humble opinion, would be worthwhile articles from "Way of the Bern" to places like c99 where the "team downvoter" death squads have no power.

Do I understand the situation correctly here?

@thanatokephaloides I wouldn't say "irretrievably" though. Once we pinned the post it removes it from being able to show on Reddit's 'all' front page, but it does show on r/controversial front page, where it still took off and ended with 150+ upvotes and 2,500 views.

Not quite viral in the traditional sense, but it did get us another 50 subscribers and expand our exposure.

In spite of it all, we still see 600,000 page views a month, and between 2-3,000 unique visitors a day.

I agree it would be good to get more people cross-posting here too (C99 is on our sidebar) but most of what we're seeing is related to links being posted and all the action happens in the comments. More original writing and editorial/essays would help distinguish us from 95% of reddit.

I went over and dropped in a rather lengthy comment to try to establish spiritual gravity about the meaning of the post.

WayoftheBern is a great sister site to this one. Good people. Good minds. Good hearts.

I'd also like to see some of the Redditers comment here. There are a lot of people I recognize from DK posting there and I'd love to see more people joining us. I'm over at Reddit too, but by the time I get to reading it the posts are hours old and people have moved on.

Can you suggest this site to them Thumb? Poor Favorite ...

but there were very few comments to his posts if any. You will have to ask him if that's why he doesn't any longer.

Hey Thumb, were you the user who always posted VOTE FOR HILLARY! on another site? lol I thought those were sneaky great. Every time I'd see those comments I'd think "It's Thumb, with thumb on scale." (for balance) Thanks Thumb!

At this point I think social media voting is damaging. I can't support internet vote brigades, or anything similar. I think it degrades the meaning of democracy, it reduces the idea to dopamine clicks. I say "Think For Yourself". What is the battle, some kind of information war? How about building something in the real world, outside the diseased dying (centralized cloud) system you are feeding, perpetuating. Let the plutocracy implode, that's what I say.

I am sorry you are not going to beat Media Matters with clix on reddit, but good luck. Peace.
