This stupid bastid is getting paid by someone. What a freaking douche bag. This IS Nebraska...
This guy is typical of the right wingers running this state.
Nebraska State Senator proposes constitutional amendment to allow corporations to create tiny, sovereign nations with no laws, taxes or rules
Nebraska State Senator Paul Schumacher [R-22] [(402) 471-2715] has proposed an amendment to the state constitution that would create 36-square-mile regions in the state where corporations would enjoy up to 99 years of sovereignty, with "no city or state taxes and no local or state regulations."
These states-within-a-state would be confined to sparsely populated regions with fewer than 10 people per square mile.
We're used to Republicans who've mistaken Nineteen Eighty-Four as a manual for statecraft, but Senator Schumacher is the first I've heard of who thinks Snow Crash is a blueprint for the future.
"We're talking about Nebraska's future," he said
If this guy has his way this place will be covered in pipeline and corporate pig farms (who destroy water sources and play hell with air quality. And we the taxpayers fund their operation. And with no laws, the door is wide open to anything. Except gambling and pot.
EDIT: took out parenthese.

Nancy: And swim the English Channel?
Prof: No. No. To ancient Greece where burning Sapho stood beside the wine dark sea. Wa de do da! Nancy, I’ve invented a time machine!

Well if we ever go fencing off an area
to quarantine stupid guys like Schumacher it’s going to take SEVERAL states.
I had several suggested locations, but this one would obviously be a good place to start.

Rania Khalek was one Jimmy Dore show
this week. Jimmy asked her what people in Europe think about what is going on in America (ie Trumpism, etc). She was raised in the US but lives in Germany. She says Europeans find it all hilarious, like they are witnessing the final stages of the fall of the American Empire. I suspect when she says hilarious that it's not in a funny haha way.
I consider whackjobs like Senator Paul Schumacher a natural evolution coming out of Trumpism.

This is a lot like how this place was run
...when it was first settled. Or, "tamed," as they say.
The tone-deaf extremism is sort of funny. In a Mad Magazine sort of way.
In a couple of months they'll be staring into the abyss opened by the slashed revenues that result from the tax cuts. Then, I think, things will get real.
That's a feature, not a bug of the Tax Cut bill
It collapses revenues, then the sociopath repubs will be screaming "ZOMG Deficits!! We need to gut SocSec and Medicare immediately".

I think the constant chatter about their sickening ploy
...will be pre-emptive. They are even talking about it on the conservative sites, where they were not all that thrilled with the tax reform bill. People have been through this manufactured freak-out over the deficit and debt too much not to be cynical. At first they were passive. It was only supposed to hurt lazy poor people, and not them.
This time they are waiting for the other shoe to drop.
The day will come when they finally figure out that making corporations outrageously wealthy does not make them better off. Plus the infrastructure still sucks, and their grown children live at home because they still can't find jobs that pay enough to rent an apartment.
peter thiel,
when not sucking the blood of the young people, whining that the women can vote, breaking Gawker, fellating The Hairball, and peddling his Sauron ball, invested heavily in a floating city, where he could be The Ruler. But he has since had a Sad, because "they're not quite feasible from an engineering perspective." Maybe now he can buy Nebraska.
I was born in this hell hole but when I
die I’d rather my ashes be flushed down a toilet than be buried here.

Gugh! He gives me the heebees
What a worm. I think a better idea is to build those floating cities and put everyone who thinks they are better than us in them and then seal them off from us. This includes everyone in the organizations who are running the insane asylum. Lock them up and let us clean up our world and live the way we should.

Watching too many dystopian SciFi movies
Dystopian futures are run by corporations in many a SciFi movie. I guess some people thought that was the best of all worlds.
THIS is why a Constitutional Convention is a bad idea.
"A major global company or coalition could have their own development in the center of the country," he said.
"If I were a major business, I would not want Omaha or Lincoln or Des Moines (Iowa) telling me what to do," he said.
The companies so favored don't even need to be American. "Major Global Company", notice that.
If I lived in Nebraska, I would not like a bunch of citizens of India, China, Germany or Israel telling me what to do.

Hell, Trump already found a buyer for our
Infrastructure and an American firm will be ‘greasing the skids’ to get things moving right along.
I wonder if Repubbie ever stop and rhink about the bridges, tollways, buildings’ erc. That Americans built will be turned over to foreign countries like the Saudi Arabia? With the help of a hoard of bloodsuckers who are an absolute disgrace to humanity. They seem the type to be willing to’ put their mother on a Libyan slaveblock for the right price.

And is Blackstone going to build this infrastructure out of cost-cutting DUI and the powdered pre-existing bones of murdered children from invaded/attacked countries for expanded profits? Clever! And symbolic.
Edited for a letter-key not pressed hard enough to actually go through... sigh...
Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.
A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.
Do the words 'water' and 'water rights' mean anything?
Maybe for some of you urbanites, water is just the stuff that comes out of a tap, but west of the Mississippi, water is a Really Big Deal, mainly because there is not very much of it.
Furthermore, industrialization uses massive amounts of water. That is why, around the world, industrialized areas, areas, not countries, tend to be places where there is abundant rainfall AND large rivers. Like the Ukraine/Donbass. Or the Rhine Valley. Or the upper Midwest, EAST of Big Muddy. Ohio, for example.

No Laws?
I can think of several useful ways to take advantage of that, right off the top of my head.

Lol, would you eat food sold in a restaurant where there were no laws/regulations? What are these idiots thinking!!!??? Oh, right, they aren't.

Here is some back story.
It seems that Costco wants to site a ginormous confined chicken operation in Nebraska.

It would be Costco, among others no doubt, who is paying the stoopid bastid.
I should think this guy might be vulnerable next election?? Where is the DNC when you need it???? Do I even need to ask?

THE GOOD LIFE
I was born and raised in the cornhusker state and still look back fondly to family and friends who still live there BUT I have to agree that Nebr has some of the DUMBEST political leaders in the WORLD!I had to leave the state to make a living,as a family the low wages and hi taxes made life there unbearable,we could never get ahead if you dont have a job with the feds, state, county, city government your going to struggle cuz private sector jobs were low wage no benys slave labor.Nepotism is a HUGE problem in all forms govt jobs in Nebr, these highly prized GOVT jobs are doled out to the sons and daughters, uncles, aunts cousins of those that worked at the courthouse DMV etc, your not related?no need to apply.
In Omaha I seen ALL the packinghouses leave in just a few years in the 70s,UP railroad closed the largest rail shops in the world a few years later,Council Bluffs built casinos Omaha closed its only horsetrack AK-SAR-BEN and the gambling dollars flowed across the river destroying small buiz on the Nebr side, and Nebr Unicameral sat on its ASS and did NOTHING!Ernie Chambers is the only state legislator worth damn the rest are all crooks and cronys for BIG AG or CONAGRA.Its sad to see whats happened in Nebr what a backwards ass place
