'There's a war coming,' Marine Corps general warns US troops

Well isn’t this just all kinds of “peace on Earth and good will towards man” kinda crap?

'There's a war coming,' Marine Corps general warns US troops

A Marine Corps commandant on Thursday warned U.S. troops stationed in Norway to be prepared for a coming war.

“I hope I’m wrong, but there’s a war coming,” Gen. Robert Neller told them. “You’re in a fight here, an informational fight, a political fight, by your presence.”.

*

Sgt. Maj. Ronald Green sounded a similar tone.

"They're watching. Just like you watch them, they watch you. We've got 300 Marines up here; we could go from 300 to 3,000 overnight. We could raise the bar."

The warnings came a day before Defense Secretary Jim Mattis told troops at Fort Bragg, N.C., that "storm clouds are gathering" over the Korean Peninsula.

We were screwed regardless which of the two corrupt slugs ‘won’ this last election. A peace movement is needed now more than it ever was. Millions of us are going to have to decide whether or not we are willing to take to the streets and accept the risk of facing brutal police tactics, arrest, and probably serious (and bogus) criminal charges to fight these guys in their drive towards MORE war. Sitting in the safety and comfort of our homes, bitching and griping on the internet will not be an option. We are going to have to decide do we or do we not really want to fight for the futures of our children, everyone’s children, and the planet that we live on? Push IS coming to shove. Freedom has always come at a high price. Are we willing to pay it?

Signing an internet petition just ain’t gonna cut it anymore.

EDIT: fixed one typo and added a ‘?’. Anything else wrong is here for posterity (except for coming back and changing lay to pay.)

I should change my auto-withholds to zero. Not paying anymore.

On August 18, 1941, Prime Minister Winston Churchill met with his cabinet at 10 Downing Street. The meeting had some similarity to the July 23, 2002, meeting at the same address, the minutes of which became known as the Downing Street Minutes. Both meetings revealed secret U.S. intentions to go to war. In the 1941 meeting, Churchill told his cabinet, according to the minutes: “The President had said he would wage war but not declare it.” In addition, “Everything was to be done to force an incident.”

Pearl Harbor and that Jewish people were being killed in the extermination camps. I read about that previously and also about how he let thousands of soldiers die in Pearl Harbor. What I didn't know was that the wars were being planned for almost a decade before they happened. Thank you, ggersh for the link to this article.

Pearl Harbor Day today is like Columbus Day 50 years ago. That is to say: most people still believe the hype.

Why does it matter? Because the legend of Pearl Harbor, re-used on 9-11, is responsible not for the destructive pro-war policies of the 1920s and the 1930s that brought World War II into being, but responsible for the permanent war mentality of the past 75 years, as well as for how World War II was escalated, prolonged, and completed.

“Disturbed in 1942,” wrote Lawrence S. Wittner, “by rumors of Nazi extermination plans, Jessie Wallace Hughan worried that such a policy, which appeared ‘natural, from their pathological point of view,’ might be carried out if World War II continued. ‘It seems that the only way to save thousands and perhaps millions of European Jews from destruction,’ she wrote, ‘would be for our government to broadcast the promise’ of an ‘armistice on condition that the European minorities are not molested any further. . . . It would be very terrible if six months from now we should find that this threat has literally come to pass without our making even a gesture to prevent it.’ When her predictions were fulfilled only too well by 1943, she wrote to the State Department and the New York Times, decrying the fact that ‘two million [Jews] have already died’ and that ‘two million more will be killed by the end of the war.’ Once again she pleaded for the cessation of hostilities, arguing that German military defeats would in turn exact reprisals upon the Jewish scapegoat. ‘Victory will not save them,’ she insisted, ‘for dead men cannot be liberated.’”

@ggersh we have never been at peace since WW2 and before that in our nation's history. It's such a profitable business for some, irresistible to kick the greedy profits. The addiction for war is actually the intersection of two other factors: psychopathic, money-hoarding oligarchs and the desire for world domination. George Soros is relatively speaking a late-comer to this game.

Nothing against the Corp. They fight hard, are extremely good at what they do, and in my personal experience, respect other military who treat them with respect.

But I sure as hell wouldn't ask one to play nice. It ain't the way they roll.

There's a reason we have civilian control of the military. Respectfully, we should also have peace advisors for the president, but at the time of the constitution, the founders naively believed that nobody would WANT a war.

a war. What really boggles the mind (my mind anyway) is that the LEFT wants to start shit with Russia.

WE HAVEN’T WON THE WAR WE’VE BEEN FIGHTING FOR YEARS! A non-nuclear-powered adversary. Am I crazy for thinking that a a war with Russia is lose/lose proposition?

And Trump is just itching like a flea-infested dog to bomb North Korea. There were stories all ovet the place about

Yes, and Saddam had WMDs.

I don’t doubt this for a minute. He has the freaking military running foreign policy. Now that is nuts.

EDIT: used wrong word. made no sense. And typo.

There's a reason we used to have civilian control of the military.

Trump turned control of the military over to his generals. He said that they know how to do war and know what's needed to be done to win them. Then he changed how civilians were to be protected. This is why civilian casualties have gone way up.

Haven't we been in hot wars since 1983?
BTW, WTF have we got 300 troops in Norway for? Is ISIS going to drive their pickups to the Arctic Circle?
