It's good to hear from you. Very beautiful photos.

Here's a few photos of the Mormon Temple Square. They have been doing this for decades. Hundreds of thousands of lights and seeing this in person is indescribable.

@snoopydawg We only went there once to see the lights while I was there, my first Christmas there; very impressive but too many people. Here's a few of my photos:

My favorite were the floating tealights:

These were taken with my crappy old point and shoot.

I got my snowy owl!

We woke up Sunday morning, I looked at FB as I follow a lot of birding groups on there and someone had posted it just minutes earlier not far from here, so we quickly ate breakfast and went to look hoping it was still there and it was!

The lighting was garbage as you can see and not especially clear; the heat radiating from the car messed with the camera too. I was prepared to go all the way to the MSP airport to see one which is close to four hours round-trip, so I'll take it!
Then the other day I was doing dishes at the kitchen sink and I looked up to see these four turkeys in our south pasture:

Never seen turkeys on our place before either. How fun!

@Daenerys

I haven't been there for years because of this, but I'll drive by if I'm in the area.

Your owl is beautiful. How exciting for you to capture it and it's looking right at you. Yeah I imagine looking out and seeing turkeys in your yard was definitely a surprise.

We've had two small snowstorms, but might get some tomorrow. It's been awhile since we haven't gotten snow by this time, but after last year I'm not complaining. Very cold though. And windy. I don't mind the snow and cold, but when it's windy I hate walking in it. How's your weather?

@snoopydawg We had a couple of snowfalls, but only amounted to 1-2" so far. We're going to have sub-zero lows for the next week at least, with a high of -2 on Monday. Ugh. It usually doesn't get this cold here until January. We've had a lot of wind too, which is somewhat unusual. But it could be worse; I'm glad I haven't had to be out pushing snow for hours yet.

@Daenerys year. I have yet to see one, although my former Canada second residence had them yearly @ this time. I may need to take a drive up the hills into field areas. Many birds are not hanging out in the woodland areas. There are few-to-no cardinals here, ever. Even with feed. And I should start feeding the squirrels; I mean birds. You know what I mean.

My "housekeeper" was here today and my kitchen half-cleaned, side-to-side. She organized my pills in a flat, hard to find anything now. It lights my fuse when someone else reorganizes my kitchen. Even my daughter who had more than half a lifetime here is guilty.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

Daenerys's picture

@riverlover You just have to get lucky. It took me at least a month to find one, and it was one someone else found first. Some people have seen a dozen of them this year! Here is my favorite photo I've seen of one so far:

I've never seen cardinals in our yard either, although we do have them in this area. They like the same seeds that all the others eat, but they also like safflower seed. I put out safflower one time to try to attract them but that didn't even work. So I don't know?
I need to put out new bird houses; I've had a bluebird house out for years and the tree swallows usually get to it first, which is fine because they eat mosquitoes. But the house got old and rotten so I took it down in the fall. I'm also going to put up a duck house to try to bring in some small owls, screech or saw-whet owls.

I know exactly what you mean about people messing with your kitchen!

I've been trying to figure out how that first photo was taken. Some type of photo editing software to add color to the wine glass?
