I think it is a good mental and moral exercise for people to examine their conscience and decide what they stand for and how that is expressed politically. Most issues can be adjusted and dovetailed in society and politics. But most folks have one or two principles that they can say are the backbone of their beliefs and define their signature philosophy about life. Those things should never be compromised.The principles could be about health care as a human right, freedom of the press, a child's right to a full education, prison reform and the elimination of the death penalty, a full reversal of global warming. Start small

For example, let's say you're anti-war and anti-genocide. You know you would feel unclean if you caved in so that someone could make money off of a little of each. That's where your take a stand. If your representative wants to vote to enhance war and genocide, then you would take a pledge never to vote for that person for any public office. Ever. And maybe you would let them and the world know all about it. I mean, if this was your thing, it would have been depraved to vote for someone who signed on to the 2003 illegal slaughter in Iraq. Right?

That happens to be my thing, which means that the representatives who voted to poke the indigenous people of the Middle East in the eye with a sharp stick, and mock them for being kicked off the lands that were usurped from them to create Israel — those representatives are dead to me, forever.

Now, I'm just one person with one voice. But what if other people feel the same way about their guiding principles, and what if a permanent voter's pledge monument was build on the Internet? A virtual place like the Vietnam Memorial, where fellow citizens could browse the pledges amassed and and see which politicians are being shunned, and why.

I imagine that would really suck for politicians and their loser donors. They'd have to think twice about approving increases in the military blood money each year.

This bird is really a dove asking us for world peace.

No more wars.

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem.

Whereas June 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the Six Day War and the reunification of the city of Jerusalem;

Whereas there has been a continuous Jewish presence in Jerusalem for 3 millennia;

Whereas Jerusalem is a holy city and the home for people of the Jewish, Muslim, and Christian faiths;

Whereas, for 3,000 years, Jerusalem has been Judaism's holiest city and the focal point of Jewish religious devotion;

Whereas, from 1948 to 1967, Jerusalem was a divided city, and Israeli citizens of all faiths as well as Jews of all nationalities were denied access to holy sites in eastern Jerusalem, including the Old City, in which the Western Wall is located;

Whereas, in 1967, Jerusalem was reunited by Israel during the conflict known as the Six Day War;

Whereas, since 1967, Jerusalem has been a united city, and persons of all religious faiths have access to holy sites within the city;

Whereas this year marks the 50th year that Jerusalem has been administered as a united city in which the rights of all faiths have been respected and protected;

Whereas the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 (Public Law 104–45), which became law on November 8, 1995, states that Jerusalem should remain the undivided capital of Israel in which the rights of every ethnic and religious group are protected; and

Whereas it is the longstanding policy of the United States Government that a just resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict can only be achieved through direct, bilateral negotiations without preconditions for a sustainable two-state solution: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the Senate—

(1) recognizes the 50th Anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem and extends its friendship and hopes for peace to the residents of Jerusalem and the people of Israel;

(2) reaffirms its support for Israel’s commitment to religious freedom and administration of holy sites in Jerusalem;

(3) continues to support strengthening the mutually beneficial American-Israeli relationship;

(4) commends Egypt and Jordan, former combatant states of the Six Day War, who in subsequent years embraced a vision of peace and coexistence with Israel and have continued to uphold their respective peace agreements;

(5) reaffirms that it is the longstanding, bipartisan policy of the United States Government that the permanent status of Jerusalem remains a matter to be decided between the parties through final status negotiations towards a two-state solution; and

(6) reaffirms the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 (Public Law 104–45) as United States law, and calls upon the President and all United States officials to abide by its provisions.

There doesn't seem to be anything else official that I can find in my admittedly often pathetic searches, and this doesn't sound (to One Who Knows Nothing) like encouragement not to sign the waiver and leave the Embassy where it is, so that that two-state solution mentioned in what appears (at least to OWKN) to be what Bernie signed can be worked out.

I could very likely be talking through my hat here, but considering the amount of Big Lie propaganda being spread both through the corporate media and undercover propaganda trolls seeking to discourage and discredit progs and specifically including the long-running disinformation campaign about Bernie and and the public-serving policies he's been fighting for, I'd personally like to know more and see the official version of what he's signed together with his signature before I swallow claims about him voting for worse disaster to befall an already vulnerable, dispossessed and essentially captive and terrorized people, no matter who's said to have made these claims.

And when you look at the money to be allocated for this Embassy move 'and other purposes', doubtless to be 'wrung from the bleeding lips of the starving poor' (to roughly quote from a line in a Wodehouse novel), it does seem designed for maximum damage to the widest possible portion of the non-billionaire US population as well, in profiting contractors and whoever else, which is hardly surprising since this Embassy Act was passed under President Clinton. And knowing the Clintons, it looks to me potentially rather like a long-withheld carrot perhaps to get the Likud to do or not do something extremely 'private position' rather than 'public position'? And if so, have they done it or are they to soon do it that Schumer and other DemCorp/RepubliCorp squad members are pushing for it? Getting rather edgy about another prospective False Flag...

An Act To provide for the relocation of the United States Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem,
and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995’’.
SEC. 2. FINDINGS.
The Congress makes the following findings:
(1) Each sovereign nation, under international law and custom, may designate its own capital.
(2) Since 1950, the city of Jerusalem has been the capital of the State of Israel.
(3) The city of Jerusalem is the seat of Israel’s President, Parliament, and Supreme Court, and the site of numerous government ministries and social and cultural institutions.
(4) The city of Jerusalem is the spiritual center of Judaism, and is also considered a holy city by the members of other religious faiths.
(5) From 1948–1967, Jerusalem was a divided city and Israeli citizens of all faiths as well as Jewish citizens of all states were denied access to holy sites in the area controlled by Jordan.
(6) In 1967, the city of Jerusalem was reunited during the conflict known as the Six Day War.
(7) Since 1967, Jerusalem has been a united city administered by Israel, and persons of all religious faiths have been guaranteed full access to holy sites within the city.
(8) This year marks the 28th consecutive year that Jerusalem has been administered as a unified city in which the rights of all faiths have been respected and protected.
(9) In 1990, the Congress unanimously adopted Senate Concurrent Resolution 106, which declares that the Congress ‘‘strongly believes that Jerusalem must remain an undivided city in which the rights of every ethnic and religious group are protected’’.
(10) In 1992, the United States Senate and House of Representatives unanimously adopted Senate Concurrent Resolution 113 of the One Hundred Second Congress to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem, and reaffirming congressional sentiment that Jerusalem must remain an undivided city.

(11) The September 13, 1993, Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements lays out a timetable for the resolution of ‘‘final status’’ issues, including Jerusalem.
(12) The Agreement on the Gaza Strip and the Jericho Area was signed May 4, 1994, beginning the five-year transitional period laid out in the Declaration of Principles.
(13) In March of 1995, 93 members of the United States Senate signed a letter to Secretary of State Warren Christopher encouraging ‘‘planning to begin now’’ for relocation of the United States Embassy to the city of Jerusalem.
(14) In June of 1993, 257 members of the United States House of Representatives signed a letter to the Secretary of State Warren Christopher stating that the relocation of the United States Embassy to Jerusalem ‘‘should take place no later than . . . 1999’’.
(15) The United States maintains its embassy in the functioning capital of every country except in the case of our democratic friend and strategic ally, the State of Israel.
(16) The United States conducts official meetings and other business in the city of Jerusalem in de facto recognition of its status as the capital of Israel.
(17) In 1996, the State of Israel will celebrate the 3,000th anniversary of the Jewish presence in Jerusalem since King David’s entry.
SEC. 3. TIMETABLE.
(a) STATEMENT OF THE POLICY OF THE UNITED STATES.—
(1) Jerusalem should remain an undivided city in which the rights of every ethnic and religious group are protected;
(2) Jerusalem should be recognized as the capital of the State of Israel; and
(3) the United States Embassy in Israel should be established in Jerusalem no later than May 31, 1999.
(b) OPENING DETERMINATION
.— Not more than 50 percent of the funds appropriated to the Department of State for fiscal year 1999 for ‘‘Acquisition and Maintenance of Buildings Abroad’’ may be obligated until the Secretary of State determines and reports to Congress that the United States Embassy in Jerusalem has officially opened.
SEC. 4. FISCAL YEARS 1996 AND 1997 FUNDING.
(a) FISCAL YEAR 1996.
—Of the funds authorized to be appropriated for ‘‘Acquisition and Maintenance of Buildings Abroad’’ for the Department of State in fiscal year 1996, not less than $25,000,000 should be made available until expended only for construction and other costs associated with the establishment of the United States Embassy in Israel in the capital of Jerusalem.
(b) FISCAL YEAR 1997.— Of the funds authorized to be appropriated for ‘‘Acquisition and Maintenance of Buildings Abroad’’ for the Department of State in fiscal year 1997, not less than $75,000,000 should be made available until expended only for construction and other costs associated with the establishment of
the United States Embassy in Israel in the capital of Jerusalem.
SEC. 5. REPORT ON IMPLEMENTATION.
Not later than 30 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of State shall submit a report to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate detailing the Department of State’s plan to implement this Act. Such report shall include—
(1) estimated dates of completion for each phase of the establishment of the United States Embassy, including site identification, land acquisition, architectural, engineering and construction surveys, site preparation, and construction; and
(2) an estimate of the funding necessary to implement this Act, including all costs associated with establishing the United States Embassy in Israel in the capital of Jerusalem.
SEC. 6. SEMIANNUAL REPORTS.
At the time of the submission of the President’s fiscal year 1997 budget request, and every six months thereafter, the Secretary of State shall report to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate on the progress made toward opening the United States Embassy in Jerusalem.
SEC. 7. PRESIDENTIAL WAIVER.
(a) WAIVER AUTHORITY
.—(1) Beginning on October 1, 1998, the President may suspend the limitation set forth in section 3(b)
for a period of six months if he determines and reports to Congress in advance that such suspension is necessary to protect the national security interests of the United States.
(2) The President may suspend such limitation for an additional six month period at the end of any period during which the suspension is in effect under this subsection if the President determines and reports to Congress in advance of the additional suspension that the additional suspension is necessary to protect the national security interests of the United States.
(3) A report under paragraph (1) or (2) shall include—
(A) a statement of the interests affected by the limitation that the President seeks to suspend; and
(B) a discussion of the manner in which the limitation affects the interests.
(b) APPLICABILITY OF WAIVER TO AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS
.—
If the President exercises the authority set forth in subsection
(a) in a fiscal year, the limitation set forth in section 3(b) shall apply to funds appropriated in the following fiscal year for the purpose set forth in such section 3(b) except to the extent that the limitation is suspended in such following fiscal year by reason of the exercise of the authority in subsection (a).

SEC. 8. DEFINITION.
As used in this Act, the term ‘‘United States Embassy’’ means the offices of the United States diplomatic mission and the residence of the United States chief of mission.

So Bill let it go through, without his actually signing it? For deniability? What are the 'other purposes'?

And nobody objects to the Likud government treating Palestinians as Hitler treated the Jews, dispossessing and trapping them in ghettos for all manner of abuse - while leading up to a more Final Solution? It's just 'psychopaths will be psychopaths', business as usual, I suppose.

But I find it hard to imagine Bernie voting for any such increase in suffering, death and brutality upon a trapped and vulnerable people as the ramifications of this Embassy move seems likely to initiate. And I've seen more than enough misrepresentation of him on the media and on internet memes to be suspicious of claims of such uncharacteristic actions.

Was too tired to double-check this yesterday, so left it to see how stupid this might look after sleeping for a few hours but still groggy as hell so posting it anyway, in case anyone reads this and can tell me where I've gone wrong on this and how/why.
