There are almost too many unknowns about that question to count.
However, there are a few items that I can predict with confidence. Specifically, the response of the establishment Democrats. You can see it in yesterday's election.
Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez heralded Democrat Ralph Northam’s win in Virginia as “a blueprint for what we’re doing everywhere.”
What suggests a wave is how Democrats won overwhelmingly despite running a bag of mulch for Governor in Virginia.

Ralph Northam is a centrist, establishment Democrat, exactly the kind of candidate that the Third Way has been pushing for decades, and losing with.
“Look at Virginia right now,” Greenberg said, as soon as we sat down in his second-floor office. “We have a candidate”—Ralph Northam, the Democratic gubernatorial nominee—“running as Hillary Clinton. He is running on the same kind of issues, and has the same kind of view of the world. It’s the Republicans who talk about the economy, not the Democrats.”
Guess what? Trump and the GOP is so unpopular that a Hillary Clinton candidate finally won.
Thus eight years of getting annihilated, plus rigging the primaries, is suddenly forgotten. It's time to move on.

With Democrat Ralph Northam’s easy win over Republican Ed Gillespie in Virginia’s governor race, the party poked its head out of its hole and saw no shadow.
Now, the 2016 election can finally end. Please.
Forget the DNC corruption. We can just ignore massive electoral corruption. Besides, the news media will ignore it too.
Forget that the Democrat have literally never been more unpopular.

If Hillary won, the growing progressive insurgency would never have happened.
What would have happened is a repeat of 2009, when then-White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel infamously said that progressives are “fucking retarded.”

corporate DNC and all of its acolytes will see this as a vindication. This will PROVE that "Trump Bad" is a dead bang winning strategy. It will also guarantee that the Dems will get clobbered in next year's mid-terms.
Jimmy Dore said it best. On one of his shows this week, he put it out there again that the Dems do not care if they win; in fact, they may actually want to lose. He said (paraphrased)...Think about it. If a fight is rigged, who gets paid the most? The winner or the loser?
And Jimmy's right. It's the guy who takes the dive who winds up rich, not the "winner" of the fight. Sound like the Dems at the national level? It sure does to me.

Dems are going to claim this ping-ponging backlash as support for the party and Pelosi's claim that Dem's don't have to change a thing because Trump and the GOP will send the voters screaming back into the arms of the Democratic Party just like Obama and the Clintons sent them screaming into the arms of Trump and the GOP. I expected that there would have been a lot more "Law and Order" tough person posturing if she had won. Just going with the history of the Clintons of course, and assuming they would do the same shit. And War. There would have absolutely been a war.

I don't watch MSNBC much, but decided to take a look to see what they were saying about the election results. Stephanie Ruhle tried to paint it as a win for
Third Way. She showed a clip of Tom Perez and was clearly miffed that he did not credit Northam's centrism for the wins. She seemed very worried about Bernie and his followers. Anyway, a lady on the panel stated that she had travelled around the country for a polling company, and voters have told her that they want people with Sanders' policies; they went to break at this statement.

We would be in a shooting war with Russia in Syria.
It would be a slow build up, but a certain point full on. Hillary might even have bombed Iran for having troops there. Probably bomb all Hezbollah positions even in Lebanon. If ISIS doesn't take over then probably a full on invasion. Putin would withdraw as the Russian military presence there is actually not very big. In terms of air power, the US could absolutely outnumber and overwhelm. Putin would probably be deposed for an ultra nationalist.

President Mc Cain may not have been as much of a blood thirsty warmonger as Obama was. Obama gave us an eight year continuation of the Bush policies economically and militarily. A Mc Cain presidency in 2008 could very well have spurred the progressive revival in the Democratic party that is currently being attempted.
It is very possible that a Mc Cain presidency would have resulted in Bernie or Liz being elected in 2012. Reading tea leaves is fun!

There is no way of knowing if Mc Cain would have used drones on hospitals, weddings and funerals. Doctors Without Borders complained that a clearly marked hospital was intentionally bombed.

numbers are completely ginned up, right? We are no where near 4.2% in reality and both sides mess around with those numbers.
As for illegal immigration, part of the reason that's going down is the shitty economy of the US - we have been in a negative net position regarding illegals for a couple years now I believe, but you'll NEVER hear that in Trump land.
And that stock market is merely in bubble land once again, frothing away as usual until the shit hits the fan. And 80% of that stock is owned by the 1%, so really, it doesn't do much for America overall but keeps our plutos happy.
