Something Surprised Me Today, But It Shouldn't Have - Dems See HRC as Poison
Hillary Clinton is back with a vengeance, and no that is not the big surprise. What did come as a surprise was this nugget from a New Yorker article by a writer Clinton handpicked to tell her story, David Remnick.
It's a piece of Clinton hagiography entitled "Hillary Clinton Looks Back in Anger,", but still there was this bit buried deep within what is otherwise an account of the standard narrative we've been hearing for months telling us why we failed Hillary, as opposed to why she has only herself to blame for losing to Trump:
A few nights before meeting with her, I was at dinner with a political professional who worked on her 2008 campaign. I mentioned that I was going to interview Clinton, and sought his advice about what I should ask. He put down his fork and scowled. “Ask her why she blew the biggest slam dunk in the history of fucking American politics!” he said. A few diners at adjacent tables looked up. “Oh, and ask her if she is going to donate the millions of dollars she’s gonna make on this book to charity. Ask her: Why should you profit from this disaster?” There was more of this.
This tells me that while the Democratic Party may not have changed much, its elites no longer want or need Hillary. In other words, except for a few diehards like Peter Daou, who is still trying to profit off the grief of fanatical Clinton supporters, the Dems are finally done with kowtowing to Her. They've moved on. They're even pretending to back Sanders Medicare-for-All bill now, or at least those Dem Senators with pretensions of running for the 2020 nomination are. They don't want her and her angry grievance tour right now. They're still trying to con us, but at least they've learned one thing, if nothing else. Hillary is the biggest loser in American politics and no one wants her stinking political corpse cluttering up their "party," even if it means they have to play nice with that damn socialist, Bernie Sanders.
It's not much, but it's something. And it tells me also that the clearest way to defeat Third Way Centrists is to tar them with their association to Her and her family. If I were running progressive candidates in primaries against Neolib Dems I'd spend all my time connecting my "Republican Lite" opponents with Her any way I could. Because, except to her truly delusional fans, no one wants to hear from Hillary and no Dem politician wants her associated with their campaign.

If only they could drop the habit...
I think that pretty much every Democratic Politician knows that Hillary is bad for them and only makes them feel good when they're hurting somebody else...
Do they have an Anonymous group for that? There's a few Democrats who seriously need to check in.

I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Very anonymous, I hope
When DMW said Anonymous...
When DMW said Anonymous I thought of the hacktavist group and I'm thinking something like Operation Flush the Toxins or Operation Colonic.
I dunno how many "steps" that kind of Anonymous group needs, but my guess is around 150,000,000 (collected graft at a buck a step).

Those Wall Street Speeches would be a hoot to read now.
Just think of the promises she made to the elites for their cash. I'm glad they're pissed. They're just as responsible for $Hillary as Bill.
The real SparkyGump has passed. It was an honor being your human.
I think that one of her promises was that she would
create a no fly zone over Syria which would need to have up to 70,000 soldiers in Syria to make it work.
This is one thing that she told the bank CEOs during one of her paid speeches. Sorry, I can't find the article that I read this from. But why would she tell them that or why did one of the CEOs ask her about this?
I'm aware that banks make lots of money while supporting both sides of a war.
She just didn't think that the amount of money she made just before she announced her candidacy.
One of the talking points from her supporters is "why did people focus on her giving paid speeches just before she announced her candidacy"?
It wouldn't have bothered me if she did that except that she was going to be in a position to pay them back for giving her speeches. This was on top of her abusing her position as SOS. There have been numerous articles that shows she used her position to get millions for her foundation.
Campaign finance laws say that foreign governments can't donate to presidential candidates. She found a way around this by laundering their money through her foundation.

For several months HRC polls lower than Trump
And this September 2017 poll from Newsweek reveals:
So there is a noisy minority still stirring the pot for HRC.
And,even sweeter, as of August 2107:
Is that the poll everyone cites? 2263 people, most popular!

Polling
Knowing who to sample is of utmost importance. I am guessing pollsters use census data for all polls, and for political polls, add voter registration data to ensure the sample will reflect the population as a whole or the targeted group. As for the questions, unless it is an obvious push poll, most reputable pollsters try to remove bias from the questions and use cross check questions to verify responses.
If you look at a poll beyond the headline summaries, a lot of valuable information can be gleaned from the cross tabs.

The Donors Expected a Return on Their Investment
And they didn't get it. Since it seems the only thing the Democratic Party cares about is keeping the money coming in, and we've seen the reports that the funds are drying up, I can't help but put two and two together. The big money that backed Her expected something for the cash. They didn't get it because Her wiped out on what should have been a sure thing.
I'm still not seeing any real self reflection among the Dems so I can't accept any real change of heart has taken place either. Most of them seem belligerently committed to staying the course. I know some are optimistic about the health care bill and that some have signed on, but let's see who jumps on when it has a better chance to pass and when it doesn't look like a cheap attempt to buy some credibility.
It all strikes me as more kabuki from people who just don't get why voters rejected Her and probably never will. While the party itself may have their heads so far up their own asses that they can believe all the excuses, I just can't accept that the donor class does. If the Democratic Party has learned anything, I've yet to see proof.
Idolizing a politician is like believing the stripper really likes you.
I think the best tell will be...
...not just who signs on and when, but what they do after signing on. My own PINO senator Very Serious Beltway Democratic Elite Tammy Baldwin voted against Fast-Tracking the TPP (she's not all together stupid) but she did nothing to change the (what looked at the time as inevitable) outcome of its passage. No OpEds in the local fish wrappers, no interviews on local/regional newspapers or radio, no rallies - organizing nor attending - nothing, nada. A paper tiger betting she could just sit that one out, watching as TPP passed and screwed Wisconsinites even more yet retain her progressive chops by saying, "Well * I * voted against it!!"
If Baldwin wants her cosponsorship to have any cred at all, she must barnstorm for MFA, hit the print and airwaves, hit rallies, etc., etc. This will require her mixing with us unwashed and I'll be surprised if she does that.

Oh I think that they get it
I'm sure that they totally understand why their party has been losing election after election, they just don't care what happens to the party.
After dropping Dean's 50 state strategy, the DP started losing more seats to the republicans. When they didn't change course and re-work his strategy back in and continued losing more seats at the federal and state levels as well as governorships, that showed me that they didn't care what happened to their party.
Anyone who lost their seats could just become a lobbyist or other jobs like that and they pay much more than $174,000 a year.
They just won't allow the party to move too far to the left.

Does anyone know how much campaign debt Clinton has?
You don't suppose this whole book tour thing has nothing to do with any ongoing political ambitions, but simply to get the rubes to open their wallets one last time? Or is campaign debt something that belongs to a limited liability entity and she can just walk away from it if she doesn't run for anything again?

Heel turn.
They're turning Hillary heel...perhaps. Maybe to feud with the face Bernie Sanders, who can then extend his credibility to people like Kamala Harris.
It's all about the policy. Until an actual bill promoting actual good policy gets passed--and, when subjected to a careful examination, contains no poison pills--it's all image politics. Credibility mining. Like pro wrestling, but with a much uglier edge.
Bernie of last year was the last time for me that I would base anything on perceptions of whether a politician was good or bad...until that actual bill gets passed. At that point, I might pay some attention. Reconsider.
Look at it this way: we set them up in 2009 to be able to transform the country. They didn't pass anything worth talking about then. Just Romneycare. Oh, and the stimulus. I suppose I should be grateful they did anything at all to stop the economic freefall the country was in.
That tells me enough about the Democrats to be going on with.

Maybe if you'd been promised big bonuses to ensure that the corruption was so blatant that the Repubs plausibly got that majority required for that Constitutional rewrite?
Many of the donors - such as the Koch brothers - are shared by both wings of the Corporate Vampire Party, that evidently being why these wings now publicly appear to be merging in one giant love-fest, at least as far as such as the Bushes, Kissinger, etc. are concerned, as well as the same overall agendas as their paymasters.
But the lackeys in the know (I'd expect including higher-level campaign staff,) would have to be both kept sweet and kept close to prevent any leaking, I would think, and as far as I can recall, (I'm pretty darned tired) the Clinton faction are not known for their loyalty to and respect for their lackeys.

"They'll say we're disturbing the peace, but there is no peace. What really bothers them is that we are disturbing the war." Howard Zinn
CNN Panel with Anderson Cooper
AC did an interview with her. She seemed more relaxed, but unlike Jane Pauley who came across in her interview of HC as a long lost friend (sort of echoing Steven D's point in a sense), he asked her more details about Comey and the Russiagate investigation. I don't know whom she has been talking to, but she sure was out to smear Assange and wikileaks, and the media buys into that narrative that he's now the front man for Putin. I'm still looking for a good YT of that interview.
But what was interesting was the panel discussion which followed. Gloria Borger, Carl Bernstein, and some other fellow (his name escapes me) pontificated (or bloviated, your choice) about Clinton and her book. While they discussed the vagaries, they also surprised me a little, and maybe this too fits Steven's narrative a bit. I'm including a clip from that panel discussion. They were somewhat sympathetic, but not as much as I thought they would be. Bernstein, who knows Clinton and her circle, gave the best insights of the night. Borger always defends Clinton out of friendship, but tonight she was less emphatic. The other fellow was spot on about how Sanders really got under Clinton's skin.
My guess is that Maddow tomorrow is going to allow Clinton to continue her tirade about Sanders. We'll see if Maddow is empathetic or if she does it like Ezra Klein did in his interview, sounding wonky and avoiding the pointed questions the person in that restaurant (back to Steven's block quote) thought should be queried of Clinton. And will they finally wave adios to Clinton in her long goodbye?
Clinton will not like being dismissed that easily, but she has her squirrels, Joy Ann Reid, Armando, Daou, a couple of staffers, and Markos to keep Clinton's liberation (or whatever that means to those 50+) and Bernie disdain alive on twitter. Clearly she despises Sanders almost as much as Comey.

I don't think she'll run again
But....I can't see the Billary Clintons leaving the leadership circle of the democratic party. Their fundraising prowess will ensure that. They are the seasoned wise ones now. They "know" the reasons the coronation was side tracked, and I think they're grooming Chelsea "I'm with her2" for a run for something in a couple of years. The party is still trying to look progressive without actually doing anything, and with Schumer Pelosi that's going to be the pose. I imagine a lot of the recent supporters of MFA are on board because they're 100% sure it won't pass.

They've finally figured out Hillary is such a heat-sink that no amount of credibility mining will be enough. Now they're trying to do to her what she and others wanted to do to Trump (once he got in office, which I don't think was the plan): put all the faults of many thousands of corrupt people on one horrible individual's head. That way the system, and all those people, can walk away with clean hands, while the one horrible individual is excoriated. If anybody objects, just say "But Individual X is horrible!"
