Just how popular is Bernie?

Yesterday I posted this poll, which shows Bernie Sanders scoring an overwhelming, landslide victory if he chose to run in 2020.
Today a new poll came out that puts this all in perspective.
The Harvard-Harris Poll—an online survey conducted from August 17 to 22—culled responses from 2,263 voters who lean both left and right, along with those who identify as nonpartisan. It asked about their feelings on the Democratic and Republican parties, the biggest political moments of the past few weeks, and what issues matter most to them. It also quizzed them on America's politicians, asking how favorably or unfavorably they viewed certain lawmakers.
Unsurprisingly, Sanders—who's long held the distinction of the country's most popular politician—earned the honor once again. The poll found 54 percent of voters view him favorably, while just 36 percent feel the opposite. No other politician netted support from a majority of US voters. The closest contender—Vice President Mike Pence—earned a favorability rate of 44 percent.
It's not just that Sanders is the most popular politician.
It's the distance between him and 2nd place that gets me.
While Bernie has a favorable/unfavorable ratio of +18, the next closest politician is Pence with a favorable/unfavorable ratio of +2.
That's not even in the same ballpark.
Also, notice how Bernie's popularity has continued to go up as he keeps pushing for Medicare For All.
Hmmm. I wonder if there is a connection?

Dems could roll to victory in 2018 and 2020
on two domestic issues: MfA, and legalize marijuana.
We need to find a way to run competent upstarts (preferably anti-war, pro-fair-trade, pro-worker -- though MfA and marijuana legalization are both pro-worker) in every possible state and federal legislative district to challenge incumbents and any other comers, on just these two issues.

I think the second issue
would be ending all these useless wars.
I'd bet good money that the message would sell in Peoria (and everywhere else).
Plus the money saved could go to pay for MFA.
Yeah, but then Blackwater
and our MIC /Homeland Security wouldn't have anything to do.

I know!! That would be awful!! /snark
legalization will turn out 20 million otherwise non-voters.
it will sell in every district of the nation.

@UntimelyRippd Sure it would. But it
For some reason the War on Terror, the War on Drugs' even nastier older brother, doesn't seem to be enough for them. I don't know why they need multiple justifications for getting all the cash they ever ask for from Congress, but apparently they do.

i agree that in terms of practical effect on our
political system, doing something about corruption may be the most important objective.
however, in terms of doing an end-run around the current corruption (we have a real chicken-egg problem here), MfA and legalization are the two issues that can get people elected. folks aren't going to turn out in big numbers to vote for random candidates who promise to "do something" about corruption in government, because we don't have a clear consensus on what should be done.
MfA and legalization, OTOH, are (relatively) straightforward policy objectives.

I doubt that he'll
run, but there's no doubt that "The Road to the White House" runs thru Bernie. I'm sure they'll try, but if the DNC succeeds in fucking Bernie's support for 2020 candidates then it's on us for letting that happen.

he's never been fully vetted by the Republican hate machine. (If I had a quarter for every time I read that argument at the GOS I'd be wealthy.)
But then again...
he has been fully vetted by the Democratic Hate Machine.
It wasn't the Republican hate machine
that defeated Hillary Clinton, it was the malfunctioning Democratic political machine. And the new one they're trying to cobble together out of bits and pieces of the old one, is not likely to work much better.

Scary that Pence is second no matter how far behind.
The Dems will never sit still for Bernie.

I first met Bernie when I was six some cough cough years ago
I liked him then as he complimented my pigtails, I have listened and watched him ever since.

Oh god, Mike Pence is second favorite?
Why, because he stands in the shadows and keeps his mouth shut?

I don't understand that either. I read that
Pence's popularity decreased and he was in danger of being defeated in his re-election as governor. Please correct me if wrong. Thanks. Rec'd!!
