Texas bathroom bills die a painful death
Legislators this year spent countless hours talking about who should use which bathroom in Texas. But they failed to pass proposals that would restrict where transgender Texans relieve themselves or change clothes, leading Gov. Greg Abbott to add the item to his special session agenda.
During the regular session, lawmakers failed to pass a slew of other bills that the LGBT community said were discriminatory. They did approve one such piece of legislation, House Bill 3859, that will give faith-based adoption and foster care agencies more legal cover to turn away prospective parents for any reason that conflicts with their religion, including sexual orientation or gender identity.
Corporate heavyweights from Amazon to Exxon Mobil lined up against the measure, as did some top law enforcement agencies, and opponents celebrated the latest failure despite the support from the governor and influential social conservatives who drive GOP politics and primaries in Texas.
Today's victory shows what can happen when transgender Americans and their allies stay vigilant and push back against legislation that helps no one and harms many.

Our faithful under-Gov is already
saying it will be on the agenda first thing in 2019.
Good news yesterday, however, it that the court in S.A. said that Doggett's district is gerrymandered and must be repaired. So most of Austin should get our Critter back, maybe?

A matter of attire
I have more respect for the right-wing Nazis in Charlotte than I do for the fascists in Austin. At least the fascists marching (and killing) in Charlotte had the courage to wear their Nazi armbands in public. The Nazis in Austin hide behind suits and ties ... and in the case of our local representative, dresses.
I'm sorry. This analysis is not right.
The reason that the Texas House tabled the bill is because they didn't want to submit to Dan Patrick as LT Gubner in control of the Senate. Inside baseball. Who owns Texas legislature?
It has nothing to do with Trangenders. It's about Texas politics.
You think these "fine folks" care about Trans? Anyone?
You need to expand your purview, imho.
It's friggin Texas.
