(It just gets weirder): Arrested DNC Staffer Awan Retains Long-Time Clinton Associate For Legal Help
Arrested DNC Staffer Awan Retains Long-Time Clinton Associate For Legal Help
Chris Gowen, a founding partner at Gowen, Rhoades, Winograd and Silva, apparently did a little bit of everything for the Clintons over the course of multiple years including working in the Clinton White House, helping President Bill Clinton write his book, "My Life", and serving on Hillary's 2008 presidential campaign. Per Gowen's bio:
Mr. Gowen left the Public Defender’s office to work for former President William Jefferson Clinton and then-Senator Hillary Clinton. Chris was a fact checker for President Clinton’s memoir, My Life. He also served as a traveling aid for President Clinton’s national and international trips. Chris finished his tenure with the Clintons by directing the advance operations for then-Senator Hillary Clinton during her 2008 presidential campaign.
Another biography, published on the American University website, says Gowen worked with several other controversial Clinton projects, including The Clinton Global Initiative, The Clinton Foundation, and The Clinton Health Access Initiative.Shortly after Awan’s arrest, Gowen immediately jumped into the fray and hit the ground running with allegations that Awan was a victim of Islamophobia. He labeled Awan’s arrest as part of “a right-wing media-driven prosecution by a United States Attorney’s Office that wants to prosecute people for working while Muslim"...it's almost as if the words are coming straight from Hillary's mouth.

The defense is 'Islamaphobia'???
Guess it makes sense. Their defense against disenfranchising Sanders supporters is they are allowed to lie, cheat and steal. And we should have KNOWN they were cheating. And it's just tough cookies if we were so stupid we believed their avowals of honestly and impartiality, so fuck off you idiots you!
It's their arrogance and blatant dishonesty that keeps surprising me. You'd think I'd eventually get used to it.

I'd have been far more shocked if a Clinton consigliere wasn't called in.
The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?
I thought they were smart enough to be

People who are connected to the security and military intel fields have told me that people in those fields absolutely despise Hillary, more for the fact that she's unwilling to obey any rules if they interfere with her convenience, and thus creates security leaks wherever she goes.
But at the same time, clearly the CIA and the NSA are on her side against Trump. They're the ones pushing this Russia narrative, actually blatantly out in the open since December (I don't have to even put forward a conspiracy theory on that one).
I guess I just figured they're willing to put up with her shit if she'll give them the war they want with Russia.
But I think you're right about the FBI. It is, at least, divided. And it's no new thing for the FBI and the CIA to be on opposite sides.

Clearly,
there have always been good people in the FBI, the NSA, and even in the CIA. These are the whistleblowers we learn from, people who act at great risk to themselves to inform the American people of wrongdoing in these agencies.
The VIPS who reported this week on their findings about the DNC leaks include agents and officials from all three of these institutions.
I'm not sure they are "on her side"
Pushing RussiaGate after the election was over did not really help Hillary in the short term, and the only long term would be another run for her in 2020 and I don't think there is any chance of that happening (plenty of time for them to sabotage her by then in any case).
This is simply about throwing issues at Trump to paralyze him.
As to war with Russia, I'm not sure how much the Deep Staters want a hot war, I think they want to step up containment and secure the pipeline route through Syria. Much as the propaganda enlarges the Russian threat, they are really a regional power.

Until and unless I get better information
I'm assuming a few things:
DWS is the Clinton's creature, she's been doing their bidding as long as I can remember.
Awan is DWS's creature. She brought him (them) in and arranged their business with Democratic congresspeople - not everyone, just Democrats. Maybe because DWS didn't have pull with Republicans, maybe because she was targeting Democrats.
Did all those Democrats fall all over themselves to support Clinton's candidacy because of Hillary's gentle demeanor and sweet smile? Was it because of the bribes she could offer? Or was it because of threats regarding data obtained by DWS's cyber-thugs. Or both.
This choice of council indicates that Awan hasn't been thrown under the bus yet by the Clintons. So what spooked him? If the Clintons are still willing to protect him, are they for some reason no longer able to?
"The greatest shortcoming of the human race is our inability to understand the exponential function." -- Albert Bartlett
"A species that is hurtling toward extinction has no business promoting slow incremental change." -- Caitlin Johnstone
@WoodsDweller It is just possible that
But there's two things wrong with that theory: one, if the Clinton-Bush Cartel controls 95% of what happens in DC, how was Awan going to cross them? I mean, who has enough power to offer him both enough money and enough safety to make it worth his while?
Secondly, I don't mean to be overly blunt, but why didn't they just kill him? If they were willing to kill Seth Rich, who is an English-speaking white guy who was born here, why wouldn't they be willing to kill a brown-skinned Muslim immigrant?
Understand, I'm not endorsing that particular hierarchy of values, but we all know it exists.

It's all of the above plus organ harvesting (see George Webb's research on youtube-- George Webb's research on the Awan brothers is exhaustive, so I'm now more inclined to believe him than I was before).
I think Awan was running out of fear of being killed.
Beranton Whisenant, U.S. Federal Prosecuter, who was working on Visa and Passport fraud, was found dead on the Miami Beach on May 24, 2017. DWS's district. Its thought that Visas obtained for the brothers and their wives- and the brothers had gone back and forth to Pakistan- were fraudulently obtained (think: DWS).
Then Kraus Eberwein, a former Haitian government official- who'd been in charge of distributing donor funds during/after the earthquake- was set to testify against the Clinton Foundation just days before he was found dead in a Miami hotel, July 12, 2017. Suicide, one bullet to the head. Miami hotel.
I think Awan was becoming afraid of his buddy and patron. And I agree with you about why he was supplied w/ a Clinton lawyer: to control him. He's out on bail w/ a GPS and curfew-- and I bet he's terrified.

Speculation is a hell of a drug
And I'm enjoying the hell of out this.
Wild speculation #1: Awan was the one who stole the DNC emails. He did it as a crime of opportunity, not as part of his work for DWS/Clinton.
Wild speculation #2: This one isn't so wild - Awan sold it to a middleman (and was well paid for it). There could have been a chain of middlemen, ending with someone (likely spooks from the nation state of your choice) who delivered it to WikiLeaks (for free). The forged Russia metadata was attached somewhere in this chain of middlemen.
Wild speculation #3: The Clintons just found out who stole the emails. They are pissed. That's what spooked Awan. His protection is now coming for him, and the money he got for that data isn't looking like such a great deal now.
Wild speculation #4: El Trumpo tweeted a couple of days ago about investigating the Clintons again. Sessions might want to regain some favor by reopening the investigation with new evidence. If nothing else it provides more misdirection in the daily news cycle.
Wild speculation #5: Everybody wants Awan. The Feds got him first, which is why he didn't suicide with two rounds to the back of the head. Issue: why wouldn't he be in protective custody? Now he's too high profile to simply drop dead, so the Clintons assigned a handler for him.
If Awan sings, RussiaGate is shown to be BS, the Clintons lose their propaganda, and pressure is removed from El Trumpo.

@WoodsDweller First off, awesome
Second off, I absolutely know I'm speculating my ass off, mainly because I can't make the elements of this story fit into a coherent whole, whether a fictional one or one based in reality. I literally do not comprehend this data as part of a pattern, apart from the obvious pattern that DWS is so corrupt she stands out from the background of Clinton corruption as something special. So my brain keeps trying to come up with a framework that will hold all the pieces of data in reasonable relation to one another.
I like your stab at it a lot. There's definitely a logic to it. The bit about the Russian metadata bugs me a little bit--seems like the CIA or NSA would absolutely be the best candidates for doing that, and who in those organizations would both attach that forged data AND hand it on? It would have to be somebody who both hates Hillary Clinton and wants to go to war with Russia. That almost makes sense. Somebody who agrees with her insane PNAC policies--and wants to discredit Wikileaks--but also would love to embarrass her. Also, the bit about why he's in the public eye at all, why this was done as an arrest in public is a bit shaky, unless they were well and truly taken by surprise at the fact that he was the one doing it, and HAD to nab him at the airport b/c he was already on his way out.
However, if your speculation is correct, it would imply that the FBI really is still independent of the forces I'm lately calling The Cartel.

There are more than likely
Maybe Awan was the leaker, one of them, and maybe it wasn't money but something else. Blackmail or political issues with Pakistan? Wasn't he having visa issues too? Interesting to speculate.
I could see Repugnants going after this as WoodsDweller so rightly points out - if Russia is disproven Trump loses a lot of stress AND it discredits Democrats.
Only a fool lets someone else tell him who his enemy is. Assata Shakur
Pressure on El Trumpo
Impeach El Trumpo and you get Prez Pence. Many establishment Republicans would prefer that, but I doubt most others would.
The way to contain the damage is to keep Trump pinned down - under multiple investigations, investigations into his kids and staff, pry away staff wherever possible, let his numbers continue to drop so that Congress (where his support is only an inch deep to start with) isn't ready to stick out their necks for him. Trump doesn't handle pressure well.
Nixon had been in Washington for decades, knew where all the bodies were buried, and had actual political allies. Even that wasn't enough in the end.
El Trumpo has his twitter followers, half of which are bots.
RussiaGate is, so far, the key to keeping him under pressure. That means it's more than just a routine scandal, it's the only way to control him until gridlock can be re-established, hopefully in 2018.
If RussiaGate not only is shown to be a fake, but blows up in the face of the Democrats, it strengthens El Trumpo and the Republicans in the midterms, with all the horrors that implies.
There's more riding on this than appears at first glance. Certainly enough to panic one Pakistani who is in over his head.

Maybe Awan
smashed his hard drives and tried to flee the country in order to get arrested so he wouldn't be killed. But he's not in custody, is he?
Well, at the very least he's become a public figure and if he disappears it will be more scandalous now.
I thought about that
but it doesn't make sense.
Smashing the drives is just common sense, like remembering to take your passport and a change of underwear.
Setting yourself up for an arrest is needlessly complicated. You can't be sure you'll actually get arrested (though I suppose if he doesn't get arrested he gets out of the country), and more importantly you can't tell who is going to do the arresting, someone who wants you dead or someone who might keep you alive.
Instead you get a lawyer, contact the FBI, and tell them you have a story to tell in return for protective custody. Maybe smash the drives anyway, and have another copy somewhere safe so that you have it to bargain with.

Yes,
what you say sounds more realistic.
It's hard not to see a connection between the VIPS forensic report about a DNC leaker with access and Awan's arrest, just because of the timing. Like Seth Rich's murder a day before the filing of the exit polling lawsuit, it just tends to get your attention, even though there may be no connection.
What's clear, though, is that there's a lot of criminal activity flying in this shitstorm and that it's no longer possible to see anything that indicates legally responsible behavior on the part of the Party.
This is the key:
And thus, as you originally said, his not being in protective custody is noteworthy.
But we can't have it both ways. If the reason they didn't just kill him is that he has a dead man's switch, neither could they leave him unprotected to be killed.
There have to be at least two fairly substantial powers in conflict here. I can't see how it could work out any other way. I'm just not sure whether the arrest was the Cartel's idea in order to keep Awan from releasing information overseas (it seriously doesn't seem like their MO, but needs must, I guess) or whether the FBI is, in fact, representing a faction separate from and to some extent opposed to the Cartel*.
*My current shorthand for the alliance of the Clintons, the Bushes, DWS, the DNC, Bush-allied Republican leadership (anti-Trump Republicans), the CIA, the NSA, and possible other assorted security or intelligence agencies or private firms involved in the same business). For now, I am sticking with my theory
(which may be revised later) that the Awans are part of a larger illegal weapons smuggling operation involving the Clintons with DWS as one of their closest allies in Congress. Remember, DWS is the one who got the highest security clearance for Imran Awan. I think the blackmail angle that we keep reading about has been overstated. It may be a cover story for what is really going on which could be as bad as treason on the part of some members of Congress. While Imran Awan may have had dirt on DWS or other Congress people, that does not adequately explain why a close Clinton attorney has rushed in to defend him. For now, I believe that Imran Awan was an asset to them, not a liability. Otherwise , it would have been easier for them to suddenly "off" him.

Yep,
@gulfgal98 I think it's extremely
Maybe it's more of a both-and. I find your theory of weapons smuggling convincing.
What is still the most unbelievable to me is that somehow Awan--and it seems likely, DWS and the Clinton machine--perceive a threat to themselves. Must be a threat of something being revealed, if hard drives were smashed. Who in the hell is spooking them?
I thought for a bit that maybe Awan had or was intending to double-cross them, and then he got spooked--by them. But that really doesn't make sense. Even if Awan intended to double-cross them with some foreign power player, they've still got the CIA to kill him with, even if he did get out of the country. And again, why wouldn't he just be killed? They're not shy about killing others.

It is very possible that some members
I am still of the belief that the Awans were working with at least one (DWS) or more members on illegal activities. I have seen some info that seems to indicate the Awans were associated with Pakistani intelligence (similar to our CIA) which would mean that they could have been working with an illegal weapons smuggling operation. This family is highly connected in Pakistan from what I have read.
The Capitol Police and field FBI probably would not have known this so it is possible what we are seeing with this arrest is the result of a valid investigation outside of the Deep State connections.
While it sounds absurd on the surface, I firmly believe that there is far more to this than meets the eye. Things simply are not adding up in the absence of some deeper connection between Imran Awan and our own Deep State powers.

Do they call it a dead man's switch?
I know Assange has some arrangement for an info release should he prematurely die.
The Awan bros had access to stuff that reaches high inside the Clinton cartel.
@gustogirl Either he wasn't

Where are they smuggling weapons to and from where?
The CIA and Hillary's state department smuggled Gaddafi's weapons out of the Benghazi embassy to give to the Al Qaida rebels and this is when Stevens was killed.
There is a possibility that they were the ones who gave sarin gas to the rebels. There are conflicting reports about where it came from.
My theory is that the Awans know too much information about the Clinton foundation and it's shenanigans. This information would be worth killing for because of the number of people who are caught up in it.
There were problems with running a campaign of Joy while committing a genocide? Who could have guessed?

OMFG
The Clinton Foundation. I didn't even think of that. It's a dark pit of vile corruption.
If Awan had gotten hold of any dirt on that it would make for one hell of a dead man switch. It might explain Chris Gowen.
We may not be close to puzzling out the truth, but we've got the start of a pretty good screenplay here.

While admittedly speaking as One Who Knows Nothing, that would make sense and certainly fits in with Clinton 'business as usual'. And if he wasn't an asset and expected to continue being one, or otherwise protected, I suspect that he'd have had a nasty accident/suicide/'failed robbery' long before now.
Wouldn't it be lovely if his FBI investigation opened the giant can of 'exceptional' worms and got TPTB and their lackeys squashed by official and honestly patriotic FBI/police boots, even if only on the Dem side for starters? (I livz in my dreamz...)

Large debts? Access to DNC server?
Hmmmm, I wonder who leaked the Podesta e-mails?
Motive - $$$
Opportunity? Yes.

It's just my opinion. It can't hurt you
@SpamNunn Then are we saying that
I'm inclined to trust the former British ambassador to Uzbekistan, the person who received the data and took it out of the country and turned it over to Wikileaks. He said the source was an insider who was distressed/horrified at what the DNC was doing to Bernie Sanders. That wouldn't be Awan.

On the leaks
Here is what I found in an article at Counterpunch.
Murray has since said that he did not personally receive documents from the person he met outside American University but characterized his duties in the September meeting as "administrative" which seems to support the information in the Counterpunch article.

There have been two fabulous essays by Veganmark
The upshot is that Seth did the first doc leak. The second (Guccifer 2.0) was a planted leak by Crowdstrike without much in the way of juice but metadata edited to make it look Russian hack. But it was an internal download, not a hack based on dataspeed.
Sorry gg I meant this for can't stop the signal..

@Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal
Going by what I've read, (for whatever that's worth) the Awans are criminals, self-interested, corrupt and venal, just like the Clintons on a smaller scale. If they've done what they've been said to have done, it's difficult to imagine them leaking anything and risking their lives for any good cause which involves not enriching themselves. Just saying.

@gulfgal98 Well, if there were
I got my timeline confused; I thought Craig Murray went to American University before Seth Rich was killed.
Robert Parry is excellent; one of the few real journalists covering this sort of thing we have left.
The Podesta leak looked to me like pretty lameass easy stuff; the guy got phished and gave away his password. If U.S. intelligence is responsible for it, guess whoever was running the phishing software put the info up for sale and somebody in US intelligence bought it--unless our highly paid intelligence community is running lameass phishing attempts as the way to get their data. /facepalm
