If "Love Trumps Hate" was supposed to be the Dem's winning strategy, where was the love?
"Love Trumps Hate."
It was just another slogan.
Trump essentially means “replaces” or “wins over” when used in card games. Hence “love trumps hate” means “love is more powerful than hate”.
Yet I didn't see much "love" coming from the Democratic side of the last presidential election.
Remember when it came out that during the primaries when HRC supporters and members of Clinton's campaign wanted to see Bernie ground to a pulp?
“Bernie needs to be ground to a pulp,” [Joel] Johnson [Democratic strategist] wrote. “We can’t start believing our own primary bulls---.”
Johnson added: “Crush him as hard as you can.”
Podesta replied to the email, writing that he did “agree with that in principle.”
“Where would you stick the knife in?” the Clinton campaign chairman asked.
Such love.
Remember when she called Bernie supporters "basement dwellers" and put half of Trump's supporters in a "basket of deplorables?"
Where was the love?
Even now - eight months after the election, some of her supporters and corporate mouthpieces are still spewing hate. Joy Ann Reid is one of the worst.
So I thought all this called for a little song - "Where Was The Love?"
You can open the video for the instrumental version of "Where is the Love" by Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway and sing along to the new lyrics.

Where was the love
(Where was the love)
Where was the love
(Where was the love)
Where was the love
(Where was the love)
Where was the love
Where was the love?
This so-called unity
This opportunity
For our community
Where was the love?
You told us that she was electable!
You said that Trump would never fly
But then she went and screwed up everything
She didn't even TRY!
Where was the love?
When she was on the stump
She just talked of Trump
As her ratings slumped
Where was the love?
She shrieked the same old tired platitudes
It's what she always does to try and win
Then trashed the "Bernie Bros" with attitude
We won't be fooled again (No, No, No)
Where was the love?
You said that things were fine
That we'd win this time
Just another line!
Where was the love?
You're not the party of the people
And sadly now we know that it's too late
You robbed us of a better president
With PHONY "Love Trumps Hate!"
(That's all you can do)
Lame, Lame, Lame!
Where was the love
(What a mistake)
Where was the love
(You were so fake)
Where was the love
(It was a lie)
Where was the love
(Your campaign died)
(Finally fades after about a minute and 40 seconds)
I've been in other forums where sometimes a Trump supporter will come in and actually have a civil conversation about things that we do agree on.. Too many times, I see Progressives completely change the subject and ask "Well do you support the travel ban? Do you support his pick of Gorsich for the Supreme Court.
When Bernie goes into red territory, do you think he talks to Trump supporters that way? Do you think Bernie browbeats Trump supporters asking them things like whether or not they support Gorsich for the Supreme Court, etc.?
No. He focus on areas where Republicans are in agreement with progressive Democrats.
A recent example where Republicans and Democrats worked together was when Jason Chaffetz introduced a bill that would have sold off several million acres of Federal land. The Dems - especially the environmentalists - were against it, but so were many of the Republicans - especially the ones who were hunters, fishermen and outdoor sportsmen.
Together they raised such a fuss that Chaffetz ended up withdrawing that bill.
I sometimes wonder about the "Love Trumps Hate" slogan. Was the slogan really supposed to be "Love Trumps Hate?" Or was it actually (We) Love Trump's Hate?
Having said all that, I do hate the Establishment Democrats.
I guess we all have our faults.

It's like the word "progressive"
Dems make words mean anything they like.
@gjohnsit
They do love money and power, as we've all seen. Oh, and Clinton evidently also loves other people dying appallingly horrible deaths. That about uses up all of the love in the Corporate Dem room, I believe.

Indeed. Greed is the mind-killer.

Yes they DO love money and Power
@LoneStarMike
ROFLMAO
I don't know where/how you find/create these perfect illustrations any more than I know how we'd all manage without you...

Thanks. And we must never, ever forget...
Such a lovely person--or is this the one

I dunno, but I think I had nightmares about a monster like that when I was little...

Great point, LoneStarMike!
Then again, Democrats are nothing if not hypocritical and prone to palaver.
LSM, it hurt, frankly, to finally make the
registration change to indy after the years of sweat as a precinct chair and contributor, but
the future is upon us and our children deserve the truth and better, the whole world in need of leadership, guidance and love.
Well said, LSM, and thank you!
I'm technically unable to #Demexit
because I live in Texas - an open primary state where we don't register by party.
I might still vote in the Democratic primary, but only for those who are true progressives - and there was at least one in my district this last time around.
But if it's a race where they're just another Establishment Democrat, I'll have to leave it blank.
Lived in Dallas,
up the hill, between Cedar Springs and Turtle Creek below, the Dallas Theatre Center, nearby; working for Theatre Three, in the beginning. Hot as hell in Summer, but money rolled, before Reagan and the early real estate burst there.
So much has merged since those days, it's mostly the same cross the country, now, the thinking or lack thereof. I call it the drive-thru.
Convenient everywhere, but not tasty, like the food, full of calories people don't need.
Funky, the myriad party voting rules in the states, at least Texans have a choice, no?
"Love Trumps Hate" was Bernie's
...and there was PLENTY of love from him. "Love Trumps Hate" was my tag line here after that talk for the better part of a year.
The phrase was appropriated and became loveless.
It was this day I was there, I heard it (I'm even incidentally IN this video):
Here's the first speech where I heard it at 30:40
'What we are left with is an agency mandated to ensure transparency and disclosure that is actually working to keep the public in the dark' - Ann M. Ravel, former FEC member
Wonder if his Austin rally was the first time that was used
Starting at the 30:23 mark:
That rally was held Saturday, February 27, 2016. You know I was there, too because you were the one who gave me a ride.
It didn't take long after that for the Clinton campaign to steal it.

Hillary. She'll steal anything to win. Including love. (Which she then destroys.)
@LoneStarMike
I had not forgotten, but did not feel it was mine to divulge that we both attended. As a nominal 'super volunteer' I tended to view all his talks, and this was the first time I heard the expression. It was striking to me as it was LIVE and in person as they say.
Thanks for typing it all out. When it was delivered, it felt organiq (sorry, I have a key misbehaving, so that kan be sounded out). I had heard just about every other line in the talk dozens of times by the end of Feb, so this new bit popped.
That's about all I am able to stay w/o ranting about the primary (for those who do not know, our primary day, Super Tuesday, was 3 days later). We'd already been told we had until 3/15 to leave TOP or be banned.
'What we are left with is an agency mandated to ensure transparency and disclosure that is actually working to keep the public in the dark' - Ann M. Ravel, former FEC member
Let's be fair.
You could have left TOP, been banned, or sold your soul. I'm not sure how much they gave for a soul, but it would have taken a lot for me to write a diary about how I used to be a Bernie supporter until the Breniebros drove me away.
@FuturePassed
Wouldn't the soul have had to have been disposed of first in order to do that at all? Unless they're selling 'hot' souls, stolen from others, perhaps...

The stark intellectual dishonesty has been a deal-killer.
And it compounds as it runs through the logic cycles of the public. Like that lie Hillary threw out during the debates: "All 17 intelligence agencies agree that Russia is hacking the elections." It lopped several points off of the national IQ — and that lie will live on for decades in the American mind, continuing to depress the IQ. Everyone who believed it, even for a moment, is unfit for elected office.
You present another good example:
Are people not already born with that wisdom, easily able to spot when it is corrupted? People aren't. But a person is. Which is why individuals who maintain their own moral compasses are so important to a nation.
Anyway, in a Person, Love does trump hate. It nourishes the soul.
In a People, hate trumps love. Because "People" are so very easily manipulated by hate (and divisiveness and fear). Constitutions should be written with that in mind, along with a process to check it.
Remember this one, wherein a semi-literate Saban
suggests sodomizing Bernie with an arrow?
Between this e-mail and what happened to Qaddafi, these people have some serious obsessions about that grisly stuff.
"Obama promised transparency, but Assange is the one who brought it."
