Friday Night Photos
Submitted by Pricknick on Fri, 06/23/2017 - 4:00pm
Though I'd show a couple of working dogs at work.
Meet Boone and Dandy.
Dandy (Pit Bull/Healer mix) is my latest rescue. When I got her 6 months ago at roughly two years of age, she was only 35 pounds and almost muscle free. She could only walk a few yards before having to sit or lie down. Now she's a very healthy 80 pounds and can swim or run all day. You'll rarely meet a dog with a sweeter disposition.
I rescued Boone about 5 years ago from a couple who lived in an apartment. It was no place for a full blooded Australian Cattle Dog. He is the boss of my current pack and he makes sure everybody knows it.
Happy clicking shutter bugs.

Sorry Pricknick, I didn't see your Friday Night Photos until now
I'll delete mine and add it to yours.

I really love your shot of the leaf with the water drops.

Thanks Socialprogressive.
They were fun to photograph.
[Correction] You should be proud--what a handsome twosome!
Thanks for posting tonight's Photography Thread, Pricknick! Appreciate all the fine work of our Caucus photographers.
One of these Fridays when I get to check in earlier, I plan to post a blurb about a former Westminster BIS. Sadly, he passed shortly before he turned 11 years of age. James was not only beautiful, be he always showed a lot of heart in the ring, responding to applause with great enthusiasm, and what often appeared to be 'a smile.'
Anyhoo, this photo's not that good, since you really can't see his face very well. As is true of most show dogs, he has some really gorgeous formal shots, which I'll post when I post his story (later). Think this might be one of his pups.

Uh-oh, my comment should have been a reply

Hi Mollie.
Nice to see you and the beautiful Springer Spaniels. They always look so loveable. How's Mr.B doing?
Hi, Janis! He's doing much better, thanks
for asking.
I agree about Springers being lovable. The best thing about the breed is not their looks--it's their sweet and devoted dispositions.
Of course, I may be a tad biased.

Thanks Pricknick,
for your rescue efforts of the canine and camera variety.
Ditto to those sentiments! Good to see ya, Janis. ;-D EOM

Huge Australian Cattle Dog fan here!
Boone must have both red and blue Heeler in him -- I've never seen that coloring on a Cattle Dog before. He's a beauty!
We had our Blue Heeler, Marty, for 19 years and 6 months. She was AMAZING! The smartest dog I've ever known, athletic, and 100% loyal. Damn near 20 years is a long time with a great dog, and I really miss her.
I'm always so happy to see other Cattle Dog, (Heeler), lovers in the world. So glad you got him out of that apartment lifestyle -- he must have been miserable there.
Enjoy your pooches -- they look like fun. (Give your Heeler a big hug for me)

I call this.. 'Medieval Door'
because it's a medieval door.
Some small folk centuries ago.

How old is that Medieval door and where is it located?

The brickwork is younger, but the door itself is a lot older.
For some reason there was some dried seaweed next to it.

Fertilizer or soup.
How I wish I could harvest my own for the garden and myself. It's delicious in soups and the plants love it.

Thanks for hosting this week Pricknick.
Here's a half dozen shots from a recent outing to Balboa Park.

These are from June 5th
Taken out my front door.
It's been just about impossible for me to get out of the house this month because my Grandmother is completely dependent on me now.

I'm glad you have such colourful visitors.
Grandma's come first ; ).
Pileated's are fascinating.
Is that a cedar stump? It's one of their favorites when they have started to rot to the point that their tannins don't poison the bugs they love.
Cool pics.

No

Love the pileated woodpecker
This shit is bananas.
Old gate, new fence
I wonder what the history of the gate is. The homes in this area are close to a hiking trail that goes by a very fun golf course. It's located on the foothills and the holes are very steep, full of blind shots and dense woods everywhere.

Ah, I've missed this group.
Picked up a bunch more lifers since the last one of these.
Bullock's oriole
I wish this one had been clearer, but sometimes you take what you can get.
damselflies
A belted kingfisher with a large crawfish!
My husband shot this photo.
These next few are from Antelope Island state park.
Lark sparrow
Lots of birds with food in their beaks for the little ones right now.
Lifer burrowing owl!
Jordan river trail; I love how this one turned out. I think it's a female black-chinned hummingbird
raven
It was arguing with some magpies.
Swainson's hawk
lifer Wilson's phalarope
This shit is bananas.
Thanks, Daenerys! Always enjoy ur nature photos! :-D EOM

Many a day.
It was a fascination of mine to observe and be among a larger nesting of burrowing owls. I spent almost four years among them in the Sierra Nevada mountain ranges.
Their ability to survive the most extreme conditions of the heat and cold we experienced will always stay with me as a sign of hope.
Thanks for the pics.

Very cool photos
Love the picture of the damselflie. I saw one during my walk yesterday and wondered what it was. I also saw two dragonflies. One was black with white wings and an orange one. I recently saw a few butterflies and marveled at their lifetime.
Can anyone imagine being born a caterpillar and going to sleep and waking up with the ability to fly? How cool would that be?
This is its life cycle
Maybe if I get another turn on the wheel, I'll get to come back as a butterfly

Your camera takes great pictures.
I love the moon shot and can't believe how crisp the focus is. Did he use a tripod to take the picture?
How was the weather on Antelope and were there many people when you went there?
I went camping there and woke up with buffaloes in my camp. Way cool.

He used a fence to steady it.
We've been to Antelope island a couple of times before but didn't see much of anything. It was warm and sunny when we went last Saturday; lots of people and lots of birds. Unfortunately we didn't get to be there very long; FIL took us and was being a prat about it. I saw lots of meadowlarks but didn't get to photograph any of them. I also looked for horned larks, chukar and shrikes. I'll save my rant about my FIL for another time though; we'll go back one day just the two of us again.
This shit is bananas.
I miss hearing the meadowlarks
I grew up in a small suburb of Ogden and my house was the last block in 1967. Across the street was just fields that went on for miles.
The meadowlarks sang all the time and I didn't realize that they were gone until you mentioned them.
Sorry to hear about your fil. Been there, bought the t shirt.
Hopefully you can go back by yourselves and do what you want. The island is an amazing wildlife preserve and easy to get around.
I want to go there and take photos of the sunsets. The sunsets over the lake are better than the ones of the ocean. The fog ruins many of them. I will post the one I have next week.

Thanks Daenerys, for all your interesting photos of bird life.
