I've been sick for about ten days now, and I just had a relapse. Swollen lymph nodes, fever, cough, etc. So this will be a pretty short OT. Sorry guys, I do have some cool things to share but I'd rather not have a pudding-brain while trying to share them.

Wonder Woman used to be my favorite comic book hero, when I was a little girl. Hey, I know she had an invisible plane, which even at 8 years old struck me as lame, and a truth lasso which hovered on the edge of lameness, but it was a time when my cinematic/TV images of cool women were:

1)Princess Leia
2)Rizzo from Grease
3)That third Charlie's Angel with the short hair

I'll admit that Mary Tyler Moore, Rhoda, and even Laverne and Shirley and Alice, despite their silliness, had good points:

but Wonder Woman was, embarrassingly enough, really important to my development as a girl.

So there's a new Wonder Woman movie coming out day after tomorrow. I hope it's good:

I had hoped they had placed Wonder Woman in WWI, not WWII, just to mix things up (after all she's near-immortal, right?) but no. Everything's focused on WWII. I get that everything we're going through now is basically either because of WWII or because some assholes out there don't like the way it ended and want a re-do (thanks for the German troops on the Russian border, assholes). But it would be fun to have a little more diversity of stories.

Something Borrowed

Have you noticed that the establishment has been borrowing our rhetoric? First our rhetoric about race, and now our concerns about Saudi Arabia. It's like they have no ideas of their own that can stand the light.

Apparently Samantha Power is now horrified at the idea of selling arms to Saudis.

She wasn't so horrified back when Hillary and Obama were selling arms to Saudis.

This is a cool place in Portland, Maine, apparently called just "The Blue." Anyplace that has Irish trad music, Charles Simic, and jazz in the same place sounds good to me. On the other hand, the menu looks like very mundane pub fare. Not as cool as Blue Heaven in the Keys. But still cool.

I guess there's no way around it, but hospitals are, ironically, a really good place to get sick.

I am sitting here debating if the weather makes a 4 hour drive up north worth the trip. Ten day forecast calls for temps in the 60s, partially sunny days with rain likely to show up frequently. If only there was a real "beam me up Scotty" transporter. It is barrel season here in Michigan, and they are everywhere.

At least on Lake Ontario in flood now, barrels are placed on

@Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal docks that are now underwater to prevent them from, um, floating away. Coasties have asked for a red X on each so they know it's just a barrel, not toxics, when the barrels float away. They should be filled with water. Try to move them then.

That means, to the extent possible, do what it takes, whatver that may be. There is a ray of good hope in the endless war of rights holders to pretend that they still own everything they sell, even after sale, but I'll just link to the EFF and copy their release as a separate post. Also gearing up for another dose of the foul-tasting home remedy one of my partners makes.

I am also still under the weather and can commiserate

I have a houseful of plants to plant outside and feet so swollen I cannot fit them in shoes. So I sleep much. And awake to find the Kindle on the floor near the bed. I read much as well. Retention is not good so I read 4-stars and not romance stuff.

May we both improve. My problem should see a doctor maybe, but shoes. Even to drive.

So happy that we can screw around with patented devices!

Draw yourself a nice warm bath, with some essential oils and/or some mineral salts, then tuck yourself in to sleep. You'll be healing in no time.

At some point, when you feel better, we should talk about organizing a C99 gathering. That'll be good for the mental/spiritual health of many of us, I think.
