Hi there.

Got home a little while ago and noticed there was no POT. So, for anyone who would like to have a place to share your work, here it is. Have a great weekend all.

After the rain ...

I lose my mind here often, to fascination in the beauty and serenity of it.

I’ll try to continue to feed your gluttonous inclination.

Thank you, Pricknik.

with the long narrow leaves, transforms into a very different looking tree (with very different looking leaves) as it reaches maturity.

I told myself I need to stop drinking.
But I'm not about to start listening to some drunk who talks to himself.

Springtime in San Diego (is that right?).

My nephew lives in San Diego, so I may get back there sometime. It's a beautiful part of the country.

Enjoy.

Yes it's spring time here in the states. It's been cool and cloudy here in San Diego most of the week. I'm ready for some sun.

The textures in your photos are visceral. Look like they could be alien forms and walk off the screen. Smile love 'em

Your last photo on the beach is wonderful. Dancing driftwood on the beach. Did you create the sculpture?

Here's a video I think you'll all enjoy.

So cool. The face at the end with the heart necklace is amazing. No, it was not my sculpture. It was just there. Every day in the winter people come down to the beach and make things -- sculptures, structures, whatever. Then early in the morning the beach rangers come by in their trucks and tear them down. Just like in the video, they're gone. This year there was so much wood due to the enormous amount of rain, they finally came in with earth movers and put all the wood in a big pile and then chipped it. The pile was at least 30' high and 40' feet across with some huge logs in it. Shoulda got a pic. I have a stash I brought home for sculptures.

gleefully destroying the work of others. But then, all know that their beach work is ephemeral anyway. I guess the rangers must have a reason for interfering with what the tides would naturally do.

Glad you got your stash for future creations. I wouldn't mind a load of chips for mulch.

@boriscleto And the oriole. Such bright cheery colors! I hope to find more of them; they can be hard to spot in the trees. Western tanager is at the top of my list.

Some of my bird photos from this week:

The blue herons have taken over and built nests all over the electrical tower where the eagle was that I photographed several weeks ago.

Hopefully we'll go back again in a few weeks and there will be baby herons!

Yellow-headed blackbirds

Western kingbird

This robin seemed especially happy to pose for me.

The baby Canada geese are already starting to molt out of their fuzz and into their adult feathers:

more babies

Western grebe

Hope to see some baby grebes riding on their parents' backs soon too.

although not as generously as before the introduction of rats, possums, and other predators. We have some of the same varieties that you see in the Northern Pacific hemisphere. But some of the birds you photograph are unfamiliar to me. The yellow-headed blackbird was the first I’ve ever seen.

The blue heron nests on the electrical tower look they have been buzzed by the energy passing through the tower. It’s a wonderful photo. Thank you.

of the blue herons.
I can mark the time of day they fly over my section of the Irish Hills in southern Michigan.
I can say, without a doubt, I'd rather see them perched in a tree.
Nice, spooky photo.

It makes me wonder about the transforming nature of the environment because of technology, and where it is all going.

I look forward soon, to seeing the Herons in a more natural setting by my mom's place in Florida. You know, to balance the imbalance of it all, even if naively hopeful.

Daenerys's picture

@Pricknick I think, for the herons, there aren't very many big trees around here for them to nest in, so they have to use other things such as man-made structures. There's a place on the great Salt Lake where there's some large nesting platforms that have been built for them; there must be dozens of nests on it. I'll see if I can find a photo of it.

@Daenerys and the rookery was a long-term one. Appalling were the skeletal babies who got hung up in lower branches. So, be warned. Also very noisy.

janis b's picture

@riverlover

I hadn't looked at it like that before. What you are seeing are three different stages of ageing fern fronds. They turn rusty brown before they drop. This goes on all year round, with most new growth in spiring and some through the summer and fall as well.

Maybe I should rephrase my ‘POT’ with your ‘Photography OT’ … but maybe not ; ).

How’s Mister B doing? Actually I know … as best as is possible, in your care. Give him my love too.

Mother's day was happily spent with my wonderful daughter.

Cheers Mollie.
