" In the beginning, the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry, and is generally considered to have been a bad move. -- Douglas Adams, The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy "

@boriscleto I had an indigo bunting in my yard today and poor doggies had to hang around with their legs crossed for 20 minutes while I feasted on that color. Purple martins have taken over one of my blue bird houses which is fine since my purple martin house is still in a million pieces in the living room. And "ladies", which is what we call the wild turkeys, are everywhere. Spring! Then again snow predicted for Monday.

@boriscleto and I think I heard a Mockingbird at the strip mall. Why they like that hangout is beyond me. Snow Sun and Mon sure sounds fine!

@boriscleto I used to see yellow warblers a lot back in MN, and the yellow-rumped warblers during migration. Haven't seen any here yet though I know we have them. They're so cute!
The herons are also always fun to watch. The blue herons have taken over and built nests all over the electric tower that I photographed the bald eagle on several weeks ago; we're going to go see them tomorrow. It's supposed to be really windy though.

of this little guy (Oscar) who's been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. So, we're entering final chapter time. Much sadness in the Bollox household. Still, he's on medication, and able to hop up and sit for photos.

My Miley has cancer and we are also in that last dance with him. Day by day, each day is so precious. I am lucky to have time to be with him on this last part of his journey here. Enjoy your time with Oscar.

@Bollox Ref @Bollox Ref So sorry to hear about your kitty's diagnosis. We lost our old cat who had kidney failure a few months ago. She was almost 18 but to me she didn't seem that old, because I only knew her for about five years. Give Oscar some scritches for me.

@Bollox Ref Here are two Dutch ones:

I saw/heard “Frederieke” for the first time in 2007 (on the original DVD from Vara, the Dutch public broadcaster that runs the Kinderen voor Kinderen children’s chorus and media franchise) — and found myself crying inconsolably the whole way through.

Seems that even after half a century, there was still undealt-with deep sadness that had to come out — I guess I had never been allowed to properly mourn our family cat who disappeared in a rainstorm in Honolulu in my last year of elementary school.

Cats taught me a lot about unconditional love. May I, and all who have been blessed to have had this experience, mourn with you about the impending loss of your bonnie and devoted companion?

Very beautiful. How do you get all those independent depths of focus? How much color editing do you do? The layers are intriguing, not to mention the raised footprint and the vaguely Arabic scratching in the sand. Nice nice

@GusBecause
I'm glad you're enjoying the photography.

I set the aperture f/number according to the depth of field I'd like. I choose a high number, if I want more focus throughout.

I find digital translation of colour to be hyperreal by nature. I try to keep the colours close to reality, but sometimes take advantage of the unusual colours that sometimes present themselves. I generally work in the same way I did in the darkroom, with a focus on the quality of light. I burn and dodge, adjust contrast and exposure.

The arabic scratching was made by my hand with a small delicate branch of manuka lying in the sand.

for the lovely photos.

I'm searching right now for a video that I thought that I'd post here, since this is a 'multi-purpose' Photography OT. Wink

It tells the heartrending and poignant story of an Ecuadorian homeless stray dog, who happened upon a team member of a Swedish 'extreme sports' team as he was eating, and preparing to began another leg of the competition--trekking, I believe they called it.

Anyway, when the dirty, skinny stray--with open sores on his back--wandered over to him, the team leader felt so sorry for him, that he shared several of his canned Swedish meatballs with him.

Apparently, that simple act of kindness created a bond, and the dog never let the team out of his sight, again.

He was really quite an amazing dog--he completed the last two courses with this team, even though he had open wounds, and was clearly very thin and undernourished.

The team named him 'Arthur' because he was so calm, stoic, and courageous--like King Arthur.

So, here's a photo of a happy, healthy Arthur in Sweden.

'Arthur'.png
[DailyMail.com, Arthur's White Christmas . . ., 12/24/2015]

If I manage to find the video, I'll post it. Honestly, with all the unpleasant news lately, it was a relief to run across this story.

It's not every day that a world-rated sports team would decide to throw away their chance to win--the team had been advised to leave Arthur behind during the final event (kayaking) for safety reasons--but, at the sight of Arthur frenetically paddling after them, they said, 'forget it;' and, as spectators along the shoreline cheered, they pulled Arthur up into the kayak.

Days later, he crossed the finish line with them.

Below is a screenshot of Arthur swimming to the kayak at the beginning of the competition.

Arthur #9.png

As Mr Lindnord told MailOnline,

"Arthur bet his whole life on us. He bet everything to go with us through the jungle. So I bet on him, and I have been very lucky – he’s the sweetest dog in the world."

Hey, Everyone have a nice evening, and a great weekend!

Wow, that little guy is amazing. I love him. As I care for Miley I have had lots of time to think. I am sure now that I have learned more from my animals than I learned throughout my three degrees of college and traveling around the world. Compassion, patience, and love for starters. Thanks for sharing that wonderful story.

@magiamma

you, again. I'm glad that you enjoyed Arthur's story--a few more photos of his Ecuadorian adventure may surface in a subsequent Photography OT.

He was amazing, in that the four team members--three men and a woman--were all clearly well-conditioned professional athletes; yet, this massively malnourished and injured dog managed to muster the grit to keep pace with them, throughout half of a grueling race course.

My best wishes to you and your Miley. He's very pretty with that beautiful black shiny coat--I thought he might be an older kitten since he's fairly small (unless it's the camera angle). Vets can do an awful lot to extend the life of our pets, today; so, I hope Miley can stay comfortable, and I know that you'll cherish each day you have left with him.

In total agreement that our pets teach us many lessons, and, that we are the 'lucky ones' to have them!

It's finally getting warm here again, after all last week was all rainy and cold and snowy. Tomorrow is supposed to be warm, but windy; at least that means the bugs won't be too bad.
