(Reality strikes again:) Two-thirds of Americans think that the Democratic Party is out of touch with the country

Two-thirds of Americans think that the Democratic Party is out of touch with the country

You might not be surprised if I were to tell you that a majority of Americans think that President Trump is out of touch with the concerns of most people in the United States today. Sure, he won the election, but a plurality of voters opposed him, and a new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows that he hasn’t expanded his base of support significantly since then. You certainly wouldn’t be surprised to learn that there’s a broad partisan split on the question, as there is on nearly everything in politics these days.

*

But none of this means that Democrats are seen as echoing the concerns of the common man. In fact, the Democratic Party is viewed as more out of touch than either Trump or the party’s political opponents. Two-thirds of Americans think the Democrats are out of touch — including nearly half of Democrats themselves.

It’s worth highlighting that last point. While the political opposition generally views Trump or either party as about equally out of touch — with about 80 to 90 percent saying so — the Democratic Party is viewed as far more out of touch by Democrats than Trump or the GOP are by Republicans.

So am I wrong in assuming that this "the dirty commie RUSSIANS DID IT!!!" isn't working? This is pretty important. This is why the Indendent block of voters is way larger than any party and growing. This is the direct result of 8 years of The Empty Suit.

I wonder, why wouldn't NOW be a good time to launch a totally new party? How can this happen? Let the Dims die a slow painful death. They have outlived their usefulness and honesty and a true progressive platform is not going to happen with The Party of Clinton. What would it take for this to happen?

EDIT: fixed incorrect punctuation, misspelling, and bad verbiage.

at least nationally. There is little if any chance that the national Dems will do anything at all that would offend their high dollar donors/masters. They are worthless. I am totally cynical about any chance of the national Dems having a change of heart.

Another party is a long shot; but the way I see it, another party may be our country's only hope. And the clock is ticking.

this is it. It's just so extremely difficult and competing against the giant corporations, big banks and the oligarchy in this political system is almost impossible. Almost, but not impossible. How about a third party that isn't really a third party?

@Big Al
Independents are the largest segment of all registered voters. Maybe an indie candidate could hijack indie voters, disaffected Dems, and rational (now this one is iffy) Repubbies.

But I don't see how it could work. It would take a fully committed no-matter-what candidate. Who can we start looking at? Who is more interested in principle than party? Who really understands that there really is a lot more to public service than padding their nests and auditioning for the 1%?

Sanders proved the rest of it (campaign, media, money, and support) is feasible.

…they will tell you that neither party is fit to lead the nation. Why not have a No Party candidate? People powered. The right leader will show up.

…good news for John McCain.

Heh. Good times.

It's a rather complete repudiation of the Establishment Democrats, however, and the fake news corporatist war party they morphed their base into. Toppling the party certainly paid off. Thanks, strategic voters. I imagine they will struggle to create a viable third party. Unless they finally matriculate en mass to the Republicans, the Party they eviscerated day-after-day and year-after-year in their online media labs. A couple more months of "Resist" action and they should be good to go. It's just politics, after all.
