@Raggedy Ann I don't think I will ever. And first one excelled in several things, relationships not being one. Happy Monday! I am going to get my hair washed and cut short again.

Snow is still melting, none in forecast.

Hope you're having a lovely spring day wherever you are.

Anybody involved with indivisible? https://www.indivisibleguide.com/

I like the idea of uniting folks but I wish they had goals other than to just get rid of T-rump. You know like: the fight for 15, single payer, stop all the wars, leave it in the ground, no pipelines, free college tuition, and so on.

Resist is a good message, but you also need to advocate for something (in my view).

Have a good day all.

Well, the corporate Dems have all that experience in resisting the public good and tons of experience in collecting money for doing that, so of course that's what springs to mind...

UN to kick off talks on global nuclear weapons ban

UNITED NATIONS: More than 100 countries are set to launch the first UN talks on a global nuclear weapons ban on Monday over objections from the major nuclear powers.

Some 123 UN members announced in October that they would launch the UN conference to negotiate a legally binding nuclear ban treaty, even as most of the world’s declared and undeclared nuclear powers voted against the talks.

Britain, France, Israel, Russia and the United States voted no, while China, India and Pakistan abstained.

Defying man and nature, the sea otters of Morro Bay have made a comeback
Welcome back! I remember swimming with sea otters during SCUBA certification in Monterey Bay, amazing creatures. Thanks a lot for hosting and posting great essays enhydra lutris. Thanks.

... They are a familiar sight to locals in one of California's last working-class beach towns, where Central Valley families go for the weekend and fishermen and restaurant workers live on boats and in trailer parks.

Rory Kremer, a deep-voiced, deadpan fisherman, doesn't sigh like a tourist over the whiskered, furry mammals.

“They’re tough critters. They’re mean. They have retractable claws like cats and a jaw like a dog. A 600-pound sea lion will go around an otter. The Salinan Indians called them the bears of the sea,” he said. “But, yeah, the babies are cute I suppose.”

Hey Bernie? How do you get out of a donkey? Same way you get out of an elephant, you run 'round and 'round until you get pooped out. C'mon man do us a solid.

otter pics that I expect to be pretty good - they're on my phone somewhere because I stupidly didn't bring my camera along on a trip to the fish market (got fresh black-gill to cook back at camp).

Well, certainly at least Israel, and the United States want everyone else to get rid of theirs so that they can nuke everyone else with impunity - I seriously can't blame everyone else for not wanting to dispose of their only deterrent/retaliation. Especially Russia, China, India and Pakistan who've been on the target list for some time.

@eyo did what Washington demanded they do, and went along with the U.S. in voting No.

There was only one exception, the Netherlands, who abstained.

Neben Deutschland folgten auch fast alle anderen 26 Nato-Mitglieder der dringenden Aufforderung der USA, die Resolution abzulehnen. Lediglich die Niederlande enthielten sich.

From syriadirect.com: Out of retirement and manning a checkpoint, SAA Fifth Corps volunteer: ‘It’s better than sitting at home’

In Syria, as in much of the rest of the world, many retirees take up new hobbies or jobs to occupy their free time.

But when Abu Jamal, a 57-year-old Damascus resident, found himself bored and listless, sitting at home two years after retiring from his job in customs on the border between Syria and Lebanon, he decided to volunteer for the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

“I didn’t have anything to do,” Abu Jamal tells Syria Direct’s Mohammed al-Haj Ali. “So I said to myself, why not join the army and defend my country, rather than sitting at home?”

That was three months ago. Now, he works at a checkpoint in the capital and oversees the conscripted soldiers there.

Abu Jamal joined the Baath Brigade, a unit made up of Baath party members within the SAA’s Fifth Assault Corps. The General Command of the Syrian Army announced the formation of the Fifth Corps in November 2016, as the first official volunteer-based military force. Those who join receive a monthly salary, and deserters who join receive amnesty.

I forget which side I'm supposed to be on, is the U.S. government bombing him or funding him?

"Antisemite used to be someone who didn't like Jews

Heard from Margaret Kimberley

@ggersh thanks that made me look up their government on the wiki:

The government of Quebec takes the majority of its revenue through a progressive income tax, a 9.975% sales tax and various other taxes (such as carbon, corporate and capital gains taxes), equalization payments from the federal government, transfer payments from other provinces and direct payments. By some measures Quebec is the highest taxed province; a 2012 study indicated that "Quebec companies pay 26 per cent more in taxes than the Canadian average". A 2014 report by the Fraser Institute indicated that "Relative to its size, Quebec is the most indebted province in Canada by a wide margin".

Huh! Again, taxes pay for civil society. Less is not more, unless you already have it all. They are not that different, with their IT sector, mining, forest products, agri-food, etc.. But they have tons of cooperatives, that is cool. Thanks.
