Good morning blues, I am not here when this posts either. Wink Thanks.
Inevitable group of words from DefenseNews: Deterring Russia: Army hones skills to mass equipment, troops in Europe That is a big long article with many phrases, like heel-to-toe rotation and such, I just clipped this totally out of context, it rang train bells in my head. My fear is people that like it.

... The command also found a way to shrink the timeline by not only using a rail line from Bremerhaven but also a military rail located 168 kms from the port that was used by Nazis during World War II to transport people to the Bergen Belsen concentration camp.

It is a “very capable rail head,” Gamble said.

For the next rotation in September, as Hodges suspected last fall, the ABCT will sail into several ports to test its ability to unload and come together in another designated point, Gamble confirmed.
...

Israel’s Arrow scores first operational hit — but against what?
^That is so not the headline I want to be reading, I can't even quote it. Because now I can imagine one that says "Trident delivers first nuclear warhead toward North Korea -- but it lands where now?".

From the "Can't judge a book by its movie" department, found a copy to re-read The Fifth Sacred Thing. Even though it is dystopian, it is also a vision with pockets of California surviving in all kinds of alternative crazy ways, like reviving the cisterns and local waterways in San Francisco, food gardens everywhere. Love local fiction writers. and Olympia Dukakis' voice too. Groovy.

Peace

Ordinarily, I enjoy Count Basie (duh, which human doesn't?), but, after hearing Lead Belly's raw honesty, Basie sounds more contrived and slick to me than cool. Van Morrison is one of my all-time favorite artists ever for that reason: He always comes across to me as honest and uncontrived. But even he is a distant second. The Mississippi Sheiks sound honest, too, but I think Lead Belly just patented this song and that was that. It's as though Lead Belly said, "You wanna cover this? Bring it, fool!"

I know everyone has his or her own opinion. That's mine.

Lead Belly usually played a twelve-string guitar, but he also played the piano, mandolin, harmonica, violin, and "windjammer" (diatonic accordion).[4] In some of his recordings he sang while clapping his hands or stomping his foot.

Lead Belly's songs covered a wide range, including gospel music; blues about women, liquor, prison life, and racism; and folk songs about cowboys, prison, work, sailors, cattle herding, and dancing. He also wrote songs about people in the news, such as Franklin D. Roosevelt, Adolf Hitler, Jean Harlow, Jack Johnson, the Scottsboro Boys and Howard Hughes.

Lead Belly was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2008.

Interesting that someone who passed in 1949 was in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, which widely-considered a genre born in the 50s.

Happy weekend, everyone!

I have this wonderful friend who does a St. Patrick's Day dinner every year with corned beef, potatoes, and cabbage, along with Irish soda bread. I usually bring my infamous drunken pistachio almond rum cake and several other brought dessert.

I learned something last night that I should have been prepared for. Hillary Clinton supporters are really angry people and their anger is directed mostly at those of us who voted for someone like Jill Stein. A friend of mine told me she had participated in an anti-Trump rally. I made the huge mistake of saying that protesting against a person is not the way to go about it in my opinion. We should protest policies, not people.

Her reply is that Trump is not her President. I said, Trump is the result of bad policies made by both parties, including the Democrats. She said that if everyone who voted for Jill Stein had voted for Hillary, Hillary would be President and she would not be as bad as Trump. I then made my second mistake by saying I did not vote for either Hillary or Trump, but voted for Jill Stein and her response was how could I allow Trump to get elected. I cut the conversation off right there even though I could have thrown a lot of facts at her. These Clinton people are in such denial including the fact that Clinton is a war monger.

Dash 1 I never saw this degree of anger before.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Do I hear the sound of guillotines being constructed?

“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." ~ President John F. Kennedy

@gulfgal98

I witnessed some of them not only voting for McCain-Palin, but deciding Bush the Lesser was no so bad, after all. And becoming Republican. Not Green, not Socialist, but Republican. Not at all that surprising, given that the Clintons have more in common with Republicans than with the left. However, they made it very difficult to see any principled political position or anything at all other than "Hillary must win!" Not only a woman, but Hillary specifically.

One of Hillary's divisive strategies is pretending that anyone who voted against her is against all women, but especially older women. She did the "racially-tinged" Obama Boys in 2008 and Bernie Bros in 2016. Another is pretending that she has more than earned the Presidency. And, since PUMA types are not especially rational, it doesn't matter that you voted for another woman, be it Palin or another older woman, Jill Stein.

Unless you voted for Hillary specifically, you slapped all women in the face, especially older women. The older women who, for decades, were denied what they had earned somehow saw that electing a woman of their generation POTUS would vindicate them all. In reality, it wouldn't. It would only enable Hillary to say she was the first woman President, something I believe she's wanted to say all her life.

Blaming people who vote for Stein, who is, in essence, a New Deal Democrat, is another Third Way standby. The Democratic Party refuses to run anyone but Third Way candidates, and rather uncharismatic ones at that (Obama aside), based on the lie that only Third Way candidates are electable. Then, if their crappy, and often corrupt, Third Way candidates lose, Democrats blame liberals, not their lousy candidates or their lousy campaigns.

We've seen it again and again and it's no surprise. Punching left is the raison d'être of the DLC/Third Way/No Labels types and the Clintons are their archetypes. Meanwhile, rightist Democrats who voted for Nixon, or Reagan or Bush or Trump skate without a word because Third Way is at war with the left, not the right. It's not really about defeating Democrats; it's only about those who stand for economic justice as well as social justice.

@HenryAWallace You'll get a Linda Blair, The Exorcist move. At least that's what happens to my mom. She won't hear it. But then, she thinks all Muslims are nasty terrorists and Palestinians are not human. She refuses to read anything but Facebook and since the Dems introduced the Fake News meme, ONLY watches Fox News. Lol, I wonder if the DNC idiots thought that would happen - people actually moving to Fox News instead of their own bought and paid for corporate media platforms. Ha!

@HenryAWallace "Hillary is a super predator that we successfully brought to heel". Haven't caused any heads to explode but they sure get all red and puffy.
The other thing I like to point out is that we were told our vote wasn't needed.
She was a shoe in.

Still housebound, my driveway has gravel showing (snow begins today in about half an hour) but my car and surrounds are buried under a packed foot. Speaking of feet, I have found no good way to negotiate outside in my cast. Open toes, warned not to get it wet. So wrap in garbage or packing bag? They are too slippery, 2 days now I have fallen less than 3'from my porch. And then spent time getting cold and wet trying to regain my feet to walk back inside while nearly crying. My one offer for assistance flies to PR today. No prescription painkiller, no booze, no vape liquid. No one cares. Or has the time (kindly).

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

@riverlover hi, sorry you fell on the cold wet ground, bummer :(. Maybe this place can crowd fund some crutches or a walker for you during your recovery. Then, after you are done pass them on to the next one of us that needs a little help, which is sure to happen. Just problem-solving, please ignore if unwanted.

I did for real break my right foot age 7, folks soaked it in a bucket for hours hoping the swelling would go down so no doctor bills would go up, but not such luck then. It was busted clean through, not too hard to set. Plaster casts are hard to maintain, especially when wet, that's all I know. Crutches made my pits ache, but I didn't fall down anymore with them. Today I'd rather have a walker but for the stairs. Actually, I'd rather be able to walk in balance forever, rAmen.

Peace & Love

@riverlover

If the garbage bag keeps you dry, but is too slippery, try wrapping some warm fabric around the bag. Also, you can't be the first or only one to have this dilemma. Google and/or call Orthopedics and/or Physical Therapy and ask for solutions.

@riverlover Did you every ski, I find a ski pole I can stab into to ice especially useful outdoors. Use two if you need weight bearing assistance.

Do you have a sewing machine to make a plastic lined cast cover? The other option is using a cloth bag with plastic bag inside, but you are more likely to slip and slide as you walk.

If you have to go out, do you have a rope you could tie to something solid inside the exterior door? Then carry or tie the safety rope on you and if necessary pull yourself back to the house. On farms prone to blizzards guide ropes were strung between building so you could travel to the out buildings and not get lost.

If you are going out because of the dog, put the rope on it and drag the dog back in if it is not coming. You can clean up the dog droppings when the weather is nicer.

Still yourself, deep water can absorb many disturbances with minimal reaction.
--When the opening appears release yourself.

Juan says (from the DWR presser) "we're rewriting the rules on how we manage our aging infrastructure, and dams and spillways around the world, based on what is happening right now at Oroville" which might be his California ego talking, or something. Still, the awesome power of water, it is incredible. I still think it's silly to be controlling nature to the nth degree but that's just me. Guinea pigs R Us.

It takes about 8 minutes to get up to speed, and then they crank it to 50k cubic feet per second. Booya! Don't say head cut, that is bad. California "we" are lucky, now I hope like hell "we" are smart too. Smarter than nature, pffft.

@Big Al thanks there is nothing like a little RATM Saturday, I was watching cartoons. Maybe this will muse you: Rage Against The Machine - First Public Performance (Full Concert) - October 23, 1991
"The more things change, the more they stay the same."
I wonder what is happening there around 17m51s, the gentleman in the ball cap comes wandering in to the shot down lower right corner, and the vocals are screaming ... well you know. Finally I think he gets it at about 18m28s, is that a right on brother? Thanks.

@enhydra lutris I love that place. But you got me thinking about those antiquated civil service sirens. What are they good for anymore?
They used to be air raid sirens c. 1941. Now they seem to be tsunami warnings.
But with the recent waterspout/tornado up the Oregon coast and the new earthquake early warning system, what are we supposed to do when it begins wailing.
Head for high ground, when it could be a tornado? Run for our bomb shelter when it's a tsunami? Do we run outside when it's an nuclear attack?
Seriously, WTF.
I know they will say tune in to your local emergency broadcast system, but on the west coast there's a lot of dead spaces.
I guess it will be the old standby, bend over and kiss your ass goodby.
Just thinkin'.
