First a word from our sponsor, Oscar:
"Where's my food?"
Thank you Oscar. Now, having had a sore throat for a couple of days, and not wanting to go outside into the cold unless I have to, here are a couple of shots of the great indoors.
And so, by the authority invested in me by today's sponsor, I declare this Open Thread open.
Oh, yes, the statutory cloud shot.

Oscar is adorable! Is that a "soul patch" I see?
Oscar is a very sweet cat
Thanks.
He's in his 14th year now, has diabetes and basically plods along. His sidekick, Purfleet, does the talking.
I'm not sure what a 'soul patch' is.

Hi zett
I like your sig line. I suppose I will have to wait to learn what a 'soul patch' is.
Nice, Bollox.
Those two interior images are entrancing. So much contrast, yet so soft.
How do you keep the dandelions frozen indoors ; ). Beautiful.
Thank you and your sponsor.
Oscar will thank you if you buy a certain 'kingly' anchovy brand
And send the tin parcel post.

How demanding he is!
Will he share? I also like a taste of anchovy.

All very intriguing. I assume the first isn't a mould problem?

If it were, it would be even more intriguing.
It's more volcanic and geothermal in nature.
Janis, that first one is
cosmic. I like the contrast in textures. It's almost visceral. What is that in the second photo?

The leftover impression of mushrooms
after cooking and caramelizing (a little too long) in soy sauce, water and sesame oil.
Sesame oil was a wonder when I discovered it.

Sesame oil, in sparing amounts is a wonder.
Do you have a means to watch a Netflix series? If so, check out these two (at least) Chef's Table documentaries. They will make you forget about your foot for a couple of hours, and maybe even inspire some kitchen activity.

Knucklehead, are you suggesting
that I’m not of right mind?
That may be debatable, but isn’t getting lost behind the lens like being in an altered state ; ).
Have a wonderful weekend!
Great photos, Bollox.
Hope your sore throat is gone soon.
This is my favorite photo of a local community garden (Eastbay) taken with a Nikon EM film camera around 1997.
By a year or two later, it wasn't this pretty. Vegetables and weeds replaced many of the flowers seen in the pic.
Shame the garden isn't what it was
I like the greens in the foreground and the mauves, etc., in the background.

Inviting
I like the contrast of the bright warm greens and the cool dark purples.

Hi to you too!
I enjoy seeing what new images you find on your beach walks.
Can you and your shadow both walk through the opening at a lower tide?
Sometimes
Depends on how much sand is dragged up on the beach. Now yes. The surfers go through there to the river and then out to the ocean. At the worst of the storm it was all covered with water.

@magiamma I love the long-legged

Fascinating ...
the snake is. I always find animal and plant camouflage captivating; like how specific weeds plant themselves next to similarly looking vegetables or cultivated plants. The snake 'passing' coordinates with the succulent he passes by. How long does it take for him to shed his skin, I wonder?
@janis b I`ll ask.
My friend "Randy Rattler" might be able to answer that query.
Although he`s not very pleasant right now.
"Randy"
I relocated this rattler ten years previously, down to my wood pile when it was just a bit more than 1 foot long. While doing so, it did attempt to bite me, but only got through a bit of skin on my finger.
Then 10 years later my wife Teri, thinking that for some reason my beret was left down in the lower field & went to retrieve it, only to find our old friend was not a 'beret".
She came & got me to show me how big our relocated friend was & made sure I brought my camera.
Here I`m standing right above him straddling this big boy while Teri watches out to the side, to advise me if it makes any suspicious moves.
Oh, and my beret was safe at home.
I`m already against the next war
Thank you for these photos of Randy.
Her spiral shape and patterning is beautiful. Nice that you saved her.

Bollox, the photo with the white flowers
and its dark shadow perched perfectly is just very very cool. Hope your throat is better soon.

At first I thought you posted your comment in the wrong essay. Then I looked up Airborne It's a great recommendation. Thanking you on behalf of Bollox and others looking for some healing honey.
Ah, I was actually thinking
about these... http://www.airbornehealth.com/
but I suppose honey would do, too.
I just swear by the tabs. Think those sniffles will turn into a cold? Not with Airborne! Kills colds before they start.

I was thinking Manuka honey would be ideal for a sore throat.
Airborne sounds perfect to take at the first inkling that you might be coming down with something. I take something with high strength olive leaf and zinc, and it is very effective. Echinacea and Vit. C are also invaluable.
Hi everyone!
Last Saturday was really windy, but I managed to get a few decent shots.
The avocets are back!
My newest life bird, cinnamon teal:
Another kestrel, no doubt looking for something to murder:
This is the female. There were a pair of them; hopefully I can get them both in one photo sometime. I really like how sharp this photo turned out as it was so far away. I keep forgetting to take a zoomed-out photo of that utility line thing so you can all see how far away it was.
And a robin.
This shit is bananas.
Cinnamon seems to be the colour of Spring.
Thank you Daenerys for your avian colours of Spring.
The avocets are wonderful!

Oh Wink,
you're a treat!
River property is hard
to come by (as it's being "rediscovered"). Is amazing (and calming) to watch the monster ships pass by as silently as a canoe. A magical place, I've been on the river since my teen days. It never gets old. Sadly, I can't say the same.

I would enjoy sometime to see a photo of the river you live by.
I'm not much of
a camera guy, but I'll take some with my iPhone this Spring and post here. I can't get motivated to drive the 27 miles in Winter, but Spring is just 2 months away.

I'll look forward to seeing some northern hemisphere Springtime, while Autumn settles in.
Already done.

Good evening -- much thanks to BR and our talented
Caucus photographers for sharing their excellent work!
To give a little balance to the photo of BR's most handsome 'Oscar,' here's a face shot of a champion show Springer (but not a BIS for Westminster) from Foxboro Farms.
GCh. Foxboro Shutterfly "Teegan," Foxboro Farms
A gorgeous girl, IMO. IIRC, I posted a shot of her with her handler, stacking. BTW, thanks for good-naturedly tolerating my stock and/or online photos, since I'm not a photographer.
And, thanks for making this an Open Thread--I may have a bit of info on Ryan's proposed ACA 'reform' bill, later this weekend.
Everyone have a nice weekend!

She looks like she is seeing far into the future. I hope it's good.
Thank you Mollie. I welcome all your canine portraits ; ).
Correction: 'Teegan's a he.' Thanks for welcoming
the dog photos, Janis--I'll at least try to post photos of breeds other than Springers, from time to time.

Hi, RL--I can sympathize with you
since I had a Miniature Schnauzer who was not the most compliant dog when it came to grooming. I have two dematting rakes which are helpful, especially for untangling leg featherings. If I can find a photo of my favorite one--which I've had for over twenty years--I'll post it. It not only does the best job (of detangling), its design is such that it doesn't cause discomfort for the dog.
Best of luck to you as you undergo surgery. I have fractured both ankles (3 years apart)--one was a straight fracture, one a spiral fracture--but luckily, surgery was not required. So, I can empathize with your pain and your frustration.
(BTW, the USPS will deliver mail to one's door, upon receipt of a letter from one's physician.)
Take care.

If you do more building this summer, would love to see those photos, as well.

I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
Wow!
Thank you Socialprogressive for sharing your fantastic photographic experiments with us.
One of the things I like most about photography is it's inherently experimental nature.
Thank you Janis
Experiments sounds so scientific. I like to think of it as just playing around. These shots were taken while playing around at a black light and tabletop workshop one of the camera clubs I'm in has every year.

It must have been a lot of fun
and exciting to experience.
