The New Hero Of Liberals: George W. Bush

When did so many liberals become worthless, pieces of shit?

The press and liberal groups gushed, and hundreds of headlines approvingly quoted the former president. “Why you should listen when George W. Bush defends the media,” declared a headline at the Washington Post. “George W Bush: a welcome return,” raved the Guardian, which went so far as to call him a “paragon of virtue.” The leftist site ThinkProgress ran a blog post titled “George W. Bush defends the Constitution to rebuke Trump.”

"Paragon of virtue"? Has everyone forgotten that he's a war criminal?

Not of "the left". "Of liberals".
There's a difference.

He's a war criminal. Is that OK with liberals now?
warcriminal.jpeg

The fondness took flight online last fall when, at the opening ceremony of the National Museum of African American History and Culture in D.C., cameras caught Obama and Bush in a brief but clearly warm embrace. The New York Times called it “the embrace seen round the world,” sharply symbolic at a time of political strife.
“That surprised everybody,” Bush said on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” Thursday when the host asked about his “good friend” Michelle Obama.“That’s what is so weird about society today, that people on opposite sides of the political spectrum could actually like each other.”

As for the Ellen DeGeneres interview, I leave it to a right-wing libertarian to describe my disgust.

I’m not a big fan of litmus tests, but here’s one I think is entirely appropriate. If you’re a self-proclaimed “liberal” who’s suddenly fawning over George W. Bush, you’re a fraud and should probably never speak again.

Unfortunately, this most recent demonstration of mindless, unprincipled liberal “ideology” continues to make the term completely useless, and the people who use it to describe themselves, increasingly irrelevant. When you stand for nothing, you’ll allow anything, including the whitewashing of war crimes. This is precisely the direction celebrities, fake liberals and the corporate media are taking us in, and it’s no accident.

Think about it. If the public can be convinced that George W. Bush is some sort of hero just because Trump is in office, what can’t we be convinced of? If torture and the destruction of a nation based on false information can now be overlooked, what can’t be overlooked? That’s why this intentional resurrection of George W. Bush seems like a psychological operation against the American public. It’s a way of saying, who cares about the horrific crimes committed by the American elite class over the past 20 years, we have to unite against Trump and Putin! To this I say: Never.
...
You know things are bad when “the resistance” is so ideologically weak and castrated it eagerly embraces George W. Bush.

At this point, I want you to watch the Ellen clip. The dancing is nauseating enough, but it’s the embrace that really sticks with you. There is a look of affection from Ellen that simply cannot be faked. It’s utterly creepy.

doesn't make all Democrats liberals.

People praising Bush now are either Dembots or neoliberals, like those Democrats who voted for his lying WMD war, but they are not liberals.

Let's leave misusing and corrupting the word "liberal" to Republicans 1 and Republicans 2. I will never equate "liberal" with the third way. Never.

@HenryAWallace Sure, if you're talking about WaPo or Think Progress. But it gets ugly when the Guardian praises Bush. That was genuinely a liberal, if not a left, newspaper--and now look at them.

I also think George Takei was pretty reliably liberal until the recent unpleasantness. The roots of the unpleasantness go back to the "you must NEVER criticize Obama" chorus, but it's really taken off since Clinton 2016. A lot of previously reliably liberal politicians, news sources and celebrities have gone full Orwell on us. And a fair number of previously reliable people in my personal life have as well.

I fail to see where George Takei has let us down, at least from the materials contributed into this Essay.

What he said (quoted in the Essay) was:

You know things are bad when George W. Bush starts sounding like a member of the Resistance.

And things are, indeed, bad. Veritably, they suck big green weenies. And things really have gotten to the point where Dumbya sounds like a member of the Resistance -- without one iota's change in what he's been saying all along.

Or are you talking about something else George Takei said which dissapointed?

OK, so you were basing your assessment on other things than the materials in the Essay.

And you're right: it may not be fair for a variety of reasons, not least of which being that Trumpophobia is actually a rather reasonable position to be in. Technically, it's not a phobia at all, as a phobia is an unreasonable fear of something. Fear of Donald Trump wielding the Presidency is not unreasonable! Mr. Takei may only be guilty of not having set his brain free from Duopolism; those who suffer in this way still think that the sole alternative to an odious Republican like Trump is to select the Democrat opposing him. As Hillary essentially is Trump, this is most emphatically not the case here.

Just to mention, from the OP:

'...“Why you should listen when George W. Bush defends the media,” declared a headline at the Washington Post. ...

The corporate media seems to me to be interested in maintaining their monopoly as corporate propaganda mills and unfortunately, since the editorial change, The Guardian is no longer what it was, either.

We all know that many once-relevant news sources/sites have been co-opted, one way or another and that censorship is spreading.

But all of this corporate/military global power-grab depends upon a duped population allowing themselves to be manipulated - rather like the political Parasite Class, only with negative effects rather than for the shorter-term financial/borrowed-power they initially gain, while still useful.

So of course there's a massive push for universal brainwashing of The People everywhere, while we still have an ability to thwart their goals of absolute destruction so as to reign unopposed in the (likely oxygen-free) ruins they believe they alone can survive in.

Why they'd want to survive under these miserable and precarious conditions, I've no idea, but there's that lunatic belief in magical miracles, where Super-Jesus/Super-Tech swoops in at the last moment to save them, only them, from the utter disaster they've created for profit, since 'they're just too special' to go down with the rest of the world.

@Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal

Bush criticized Trump is not a liberal. One can praise, or agree with, the criticism without praising Bush generally. Stopped clock and all that.

I agree with Ellen North that The Guardian is changing. It's asking for money, which means that the endowment (or whatever the proper term is) that allowed it to be independent is no longer sufficient to meet all its needs. There is very little money in opposing both conservatives and neoliberals.

As for Takei, I have never catalogued his views, but I cannot recall his seriously opposing the Democratic Party or any Democratic candidate. He was a Democratic Party Unity guy who urged voting for Hillary. Did he ever endorse Bernie in the primary?

However, as I see a later post of yours noting, my point was much broader than who is or is not praising Bush at the moment. And gjohnsit's essay does include the dembots at Kos under the heading "liberals."

@DonMidwest

Thanks so much for posting this. We have seen all of this before, which explains how it can seem so hard to understand how those living within the developing nightmare often cannot see it, within the gradually worsening changes.

This would, of course, be why the Clintons/corporate/military Dems are so insistent upon 'incremental change' - in following the Nazi/fascist blueprint. And I still see people talking about maybe 'having to' vote Dem 'next time' - as they are designed to do - because the only other 'choice' to be permitted by TPTB will be the repeat of the Republican half of the Two-Faced Corporate Party Trade-Off... People not even talking about how 'it will be fixed next time; it has to stand as a done deal now that the cheaters won again', as too many previously have, every single time - which is how all this predictably reached this point and became such an imminently fatal global disaster.

The Dems are to have lost merely from 'a poorly delivered message'; people are to suffer through the implementation of the deadly corporate/military wishlist simply 'because of Trump!/Republicans' and, if they survive, vote for 'the lesser evil' next time - not that this likely matters to the Parasite Class, apart from the blinding 'optics' of plausibility. As long as the people and the remaining uncorrupted and sane public officials do not stop them, they will continue to bulldoze the world. This 'incremental' Final Solution for life on Earth is not occurring within the framework of democracy and law; the PTB and the Parasite Class operate lawlessly, under the illusion of 'legality' within a fascist framework and well outside of reality.

And what matters to the Parasite Class is that people remain focused on voting for or against one side or the other of the corporate duopoly in rigged selections and essentially accept the status quo as they are sucked too far down the drain to ever swim out of it.

In order to avoid a bloody revolution or, worse yet, a passively crushed (whether one-step-at-a-time or more suddenly, with nuclear bangs,) and life-eliminated world, what would happen if a Party of, by and for the people with a platform benefiting all people was created and promoted - before the internet goes as a useful communications tool, if at all possible, but with (as far as possible, nation-wide) door-to-door plans made immediately to cover such impediments - starting NOW, with a roughly 2-year educational effort for the next election and a 4-year effort for the one following, with the intention of creating such an obvious and overwhelming populist sweep that cheating could not convincingly take place in order to retain the corporate/military grip on public policy and global hegemony? It's the only possible electoral out I can think of. But it has to be massive and country-wide, something the already corporate-media-wary American people cannot be propagandized against, as they are being propagandized against Russia especially and other - more corporate-independent - countries long on the corporate/military hit-list.

. Let Bernie 'Appleseed' follow his path in keeping the notion of democracy and justice alive even in the corporate media and therefore within the minds and perspectives of the public restricted to such as they provide, but to enable that seed to flourish and grow into a tree of true liberty, let there be some honest soul at the head of a new and truly democratic party built solidly upon a binding platform covering the broadest of the public concerns and the concepts of equality and justice so that people have something to vote for, beyond their own draining and destruction by any evil. And it must be made by the people, for the people and consist of the people, in order to finally achieve the real American Dream - not 'get rich quick and the devil take the hindmost' but - of a free and egalitarian society providing a good life for all.

Your phenomenal link, and that of several following, are below; I like easily copied links, myself, especially when the computer's slow - and this site is very slow for me, so this is for anyone else having such issues but wishing to check links later or to avoid the waits both coming and going. On tonight’s Big Picture, Thom talks to America’s Lawyer Host Mike Papantonio about the alternative, Fox “So-Called” News reality that Trump seems to embody, and why it could be dangerous for the United States. Then, Thom discusses a disturbing parallel between fascism and Trump, and the president’s policies on sanctuary cities with Republican Strategist David Ferguson and Sarah Badawi with the Progressive Change Campaign Committee.

Lol, as if the Clintons would have done anything very differently, even if for a different section although she did win over - or retain - (thinking Haim Saban as well as AIPAC) many Republican/Likud-supporting donors this past (s)election, of the Parasite Class sometimes having somewhat different priorities... it's the public acceptance of suppression of rights and of the PR distortion of citizen perceptions of democracy (and entitlements, these being presented as a bad thing, since anything indisputably belonging to anyone else, whether rights or property, is perceived by them as having been somehow stolen from the Parasite class,) which matters to TPTB.

Just going to stick this on as well, as half-listening heard some interesting points - although the guest was certainly not infallible; in example a number of protests, such as the Million Women March, were indeed engineered/used by the Clinton faction, even if many of the people showing up did so for their own actual reasons and not in support of Clinton or the Clinton-wing cronies speaking there. President Obama after it became clear that he was a continuation of the previous Bush/Clinton/Bush war criminals are having to rationalize their support. What better way than to bring back George Bush as this great guy, without all the war trappings. He paints, he dances, he hobnobs with Ellen - he couldn't be a bad guy. Therefore, Obama is not a bad guy just because he upped the anti on Bush's crimes.

It's all NORMAL now. No one, Left or Right, spoke out against Obama's drone war and the rest of the crap perpetrated by his administration by the likes of Hillary Clinton. The Middle East is a disaster, much like Fukushima, and probably just as difficult to fix.

They are all war criminals and they all have to stand together against any effort to move against any of them. Hillary losing has set off a Sh*tstorm, because the was supposed to get WWIII going so they could all reap their reward of global government and immunity from prosecution.

of George W. Bush being pushed and promoted by Democrats is something I would not have expected. I'm quite appalled and ashamed. What's next? They hook the electrodes up to Cheney's horrid old hide and getting him to put in his two cents?

These screw loose Dems have shown that there's not anything they won't stoop to in order to get people behind all their craziness. What is the end game? They can't possibly think that they can throw the Trump, Pence, and the whole election out, can they? They didn't fight Trump in any actual constructive ways, like standing firm against his cabinet appointments. They rolled over for that shit. They're not doing anything but pissing and moaning and stirring up trouble. I wish Obama would take George, Michelle, and the rest of the gang and fade off into the sunset. (I've given up on Reid, Pelosi, & Co. They're just in it for their paycheck and screw the rest of us.)

And as for Trump, it sounds as though his mental tranny has stripped pretty much all its gears. And his supporters are eating up this "Obama tapped my phone" story. Yeah, if we think back to examples such as Hillary using - in a public election debate - the Bush Admin as precedent for her violations of National Security basics and of the Congressional/Presidential Dem protest-against-Repub-policy dances nonetheless resulting in Dems being somehow helpless to prevent/showing outright support of Republican abuses (effectively trademarked as Repub's only, but... GAH!) this is hardly surprising except, as you say, for the time delay. No doubt we're all supposed to be favourably contrasting Bush/Clinton with Trump, rather then going WTF???!!! though it's not inconceivable that he might have. He had the intelligence agencies working overtime to collect data on Trump's alleged "ties" to Russia. The objective being to sabotage any attempts at rapprochement, by selectively "leaking" selected snippets and tidbits of Trump's diplomatic efforts in this regard to the msm.

Though there was never in fact anything illegal, improper, or even unusual about any of Trump's preliminary communications with various Russian officials, msm reporting has made it seem as if they were somehow surreptitious and traitorous. This is a pre-planned PR operation that we are seeing now, using the FBI to head various bogus "investigations".

The MIC and the CIA, aided and abetted by the likes of Obama, Clinton, and the Bush family, are dead set against any kind of accommodation with Russia. They have all invested far too heavily in a completely incompatible narrative, to allow that to happen. In light of this mutual and overriding concern, it should come as no surprise to see Dubya being resurrected rehabilitated at this time, in the public eye.

Like you said, every intelligence agency we have was and is out trying to find out everything they can about the guy. If they're as efficient as we've been 'told', they already had the info anyway. But there is plenty of evidence that Obama & Co. was busy helping to set the narrative and push the Russian angle. What we are seeing play out so clearly now is that the same Oligarchy controls both Parties (Democrats, a.k.a. "liberals). Orchestrated chaos is being continually generated, and a "Deep State" War against the Trump administration by these same people.

But what is surprising to me is the extent to which Hollywood Celebrities, Musicians, people in the Arts, etc. have all joined in to participate in the crooked "Deep State" agenda. There was a time when most of this culture was anti-War, and would have welcomed diplomacy with Russia (why not?). The fact that these people (Joy Behar, Bill Maher, Ellen Degeneres, etc.) now say things like: they miss George W. Bush -- shows just what tools they are for their corrupt Corporate sponsors, and just how thoughtless, and shallow, and lacking in ethics they really are.

Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld slaughtered over 1 Million innocent people in Iraq, created a program of global U.S. Torture Chambers, bankrupted the Nation by $3 Trillion, and got more of our Americans killed and murdered ..since back in the days of Vietnam. Bush and his team were responsible both for: 1) the 9/11 attack & demolition carnage, and 2) manipulating that event with complete Lies to put our Country into endless, perpetual Global Warfare -- and create Worldwide chaos and tragedy. The great Wall Street theft, and U.S. economic meltdown also occurred on his watch. And yet now we're supposed to like George W. Bush, and accept this criminal as the voice of reason?

Whatever anyone may think about Trump, or project about him, he is not a Worldwide genocidal, mass-murdering tyrant like George W. Bush (and Cheney and Rumsfeld) hellbent on using Americans as cannon fodder, and plundering the economy. The fact that "the Left" and the Neocon Warhawks are now one in the same today .... is a little scary.

Liberals support The "Deep State" War and Coup Against President Donald Trump

I used to loath Fox News, and look to MSNBC or CNN for information. But in the past year everything has shifted. The only place left on TV where you might not have to sit through pure anti-Trump bias (and get real info) is now FOX News. And people I once admired like Michael Moore ... I just cannot listen to anymore. On some level he must still know that the Trade agreements were bad, and that Obamacare was always a bad bill (pure Corporatism, and not affordable). So why is he out there calling for a Coup against Trump, and the installation of Hillary Clinton? This is getting crazy.

So "The Left" has become the new "Right" (and the new Reich). They are now the McCarthyism. They are the allies and puppets of the "Deep State". They are now the Warmongers (along with the John McCain Republicans). They are the liars, and the Fake News.

The One This Time, and finding out that HER wasn't anything of the kind broke a lot of brains. And rather than face the reality that HER was an absolutely shitty candidate who ran a shitty campaign and deservedly lost, they have retreated into an alternate reality where all they have to do is impeach and remove the actual election winner and they can install Their Rightful Queen.

This is florid, rampant, batshit insanity.

@TheOtherMaven Because I greatly doubt that Pence would resign and if he did, Paul Ryan would not give up the Presidency unless they pried it from his cold dead hands, which is not a bad idea. @gjohnsit
If that were the case, then the "Deep State" would not be trying to overthrow him so transparently.

Clearly, Trump is the first U.S. President to come along and say: "what are we doing spending $6 Trillion dollars on all these Wars which have made things worse"? He's the first U.S. President to come along and try to get us out of these bad Trade agreements. The Globalists do not like him. That is the proof here that he is not a member of their elitist Club. Never before has a U.S. President ever gotten such a barrage of negative coverage and smears 24/7 every day of the week.

There will be no 9/11 orchestrated by him on his watch. So there is no comparison at all here with the evil of Bush-Cheney. But he may be surrounded by too many Warhawks, who would try to sabotage his efforts, and manipulate the Country into War for him to control. That is the biggest concern here. You don't need "approvals" for War to happen. The CIA orchestrates global War, terrorism, and upheaval all the time on its own.

He should have never allowed the resignation of Michael Flynn. He gave into the pressure. Flynn did nothing illegal. Now the bastards want the heads of his few other non-conformists left.

Trump may be surrounded by too many enemies to succeed.

@FreeSociety I believe Trump would have no problem continuing an endless war for the enrichment of wealthy arms manufacturers and their banker buddies. However, there are limits to what he wants to do. Nuclear armageddon appears to be one of them. He'd rather make money off mining petroleum products in Russia than nuke it till it glows.

by reacting the way it has to Trump's election. It's been a full frontal assault, using every available resource to stop Trump dead in his tracks. Also exposed has been (1) the degree of control it maintains over most major "Western" media outlets, and (2) the fact that it is firmly embedded within the official Democratic Party.

IMO this drive to oust Trump by the Deep State could be a strategic mistake, in that it has played so many of its cards so soon, in a somewhat panicky scramble. Much of the Deep State's strength has derived from its obscurity, but recently a significant amount of that has been sacrificed -- simply to get rid of Trump. The msm particularly, has I think badly over-played its hand. The increasing availability of alternative media sources has made it possible for interested parties to discern the general outlines of a power structure that has long remained almost invisible.

I was really surprised that Trump agreed to "give in" to the forcing out of Michael Flynn (after what's been going on). Flynn was then replaced by a CFR globalist (who is hostile to Russia, and didn't think the Vietnam War was wrong in concept -- only in implementation). Now Sessions has to be recused, and maybe worse.

If Trump doesn't stand up to the Deep State....who will?

So despite them overplaying their hand and being so transparent....it seems like they always win anyway. The Warfare State has so few who really oppose it anymore.

With Marine One waiting on the South Lawn, Trump and his team engaged in an animated exchange -- captured by press pool cameras peering in through the windows from the White House South Lawn. Trump then left the office for the helicopter, taking the hands of his young grandchildren and joined by his daughter Ivanka and Kushner.

Priebus and Bannon were planning to join the trip, but suddenly after the president's eruption those plans changed. One source said both men volunteered to stay behind in Washington, with another source saying the president seemed to concur that they should.

As President Trump was in the air aboard Marine One headed for Air Force One on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews, a last-minute phone call was made from the West Wing to the team on board the president’s plane with a directive to remove Priebus and Bannon from the manifest, sources said. They would not be coming to the Sunshine State.

Trump flashes anger over Sessions recusal, Russia stories in tense Oval Office meeting

By Jonathan Karl
CHRIS VLASTO

Mar 4, 2017, 2:12 PM

... The president erupted with anger over the latest slew of news reports connecting Russia with the new administration -- specifically the abrupt decision by Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from investigations into Russian meddling in the 2016 campaign.

Sources said the president felt Sessions' recusal was unnecessary and only served to embolden Trump's political opponents. The attorney general made his announcement Thursday just as Trump returned to Washington from a trip to the U.S.S. Gerald Ford in Virginia for a speech about his agenda as president.

Hours earlier, aboard the ship, the president had told reporters that he had "total" confidence in Sessions and saw no reason why the attorney general should recuse himself.

“We should have had a good week. We should have had a good weekend. But once again, back to Russia," a senior White House official said, expressing the frustration simmering in the West Wing following the news earlier in the week that Sessions failed to disclose during his confirmation process that he had met with the Russian ambassador twice during the election campaign. Sessions at the time was a senator on the Armed Services Committee and was also helping the Trump campaign. ...

The Bizarre Far-Right Billionaire Behind Trump's Presidency

Published on 13 Jan 2017

When all seemed to be falling apart for Trump this summer, one shadowy billionaire offered up his own massive political infrastructure, which included Steve Bannon and Kellyanne Conway, and saved Trump’s campaign from demise

Anything that throws the PTB off balance and loosens the strings pulling public servants is a potential opening for survival. Although I dunno if Trump ought to be flying after this, considering past history. And the billionaire's Trump-watchers aren't on board to be collateral damage, either.

Edit: (just jotting down bits from the video, tired and can hardly see - absolute accuracy may not be achieved. Also some personal thoughts, which should be identifiable.)

Robert Mercer - hedge fund manager making astonishing profits; supported Ted Cruz, then was asked to support Trump. Gave him millions but also a ready-to-go ginormous electoral machine. Bannon and Conway, David Bossey head of Citizen's United, which Mercer funded, among others; Mercer's wife on Trump's transition team, (something to the effect of plans to pollute and depopulate North America; the one would follow the other but I do not have the exact wording so I may be implying something not intended by the maker of this video by this phrasing.)

Andrew Breitbart was also connected. Bannon, Peter Schweizer and Breitbart want to pump their media/ideology into America's culture to channel rage into a force with which to storm Washington, first w/Tea Party (no mention of Koch brothers here?) then with Trump. Koch brothers and Mercer among big funders of Citizen United, which funds Trump. CU was started in 1988 to create a pro-corporate 'far-right' atmosphere in American society, to shape America. 2010, Mercer moved beyond CU, Breitbart was sued for faked slanderous video but continued making propaganda and dies from heart attack at 43 - was considered a 'moderate conservative' and his loss as perhaps a blessing in disguise. Had been on Drudge Report and did research for Huffington Post. So Bannon Mercer and Schweizer take over. Also start the Government Accountability Institute; Mercer top funder, Bannon on the Board, this at the time of Obama/Romney's electoral race.

(Bannon spent 15.5 million on Trump, apart from massive other assistance, and 13 million on Cruz before that, according to graphic provided and dialogue.)

After the election, Rebecca Mercer, Mercer's daughter stepped into the ring, into her father's think tanks and foundations. Mercer did not like TPP, which Cruz supported. Mercer loves computers, loves being alone with them at night, loves air-conditioned air and whirring noises... Personal bet with myself that he supports the Google cyborg/robot replacement of humanity.

Mercer has mastered quantitative trading, which makes billionaires somewhat richer but creates no actual value. (This would come from the losses of smaller investors, of course.) Most of the top major donors listed here are billionaires created by gaming the system/gambling-related activities.

Propaganda is useful to demonize any who would regulate or speak against their methods of making money via methods adding no value to society.

That Overton Window keeps on moving on. Waaaaay past left or right field...

Evil is good. But good is bad. More evil over this will fix it all, but the names will have to change the concepts so the accepted labels all have to change to different meanings so that ultimately, all civilized tradition and history are not only forgotten but cannot be understood, as they will be seen as different concepts than those they actually represent.

Liberal now purportedly means 'centrist right-wing' but with those 'acceptable liberals' actually promoting/enacting 'far right' agendas which are not actually 'political' but destructive to all except a few predatory self-interests. Yet the labels of 'right' and 'left' are also intended to trigger hate-blinded fear in each 'opposite' group of the target population in order to divide them so that they cannot be effective against their common enemy, the one so industriously setting various population groups against each other, while confusing the very terms we use to describe the difference between democracy and authoritarian/fascist political systems and the differences between sustainable and civilized behaviours and those of lawless, ravening pathology.

As the Sane Progressive has said and says, we have to draw that line beyond which we will not go and hold to it, rather than continuing to edge further back 'until the next time' every time and we have to do it now. And deprogramming is required for many.

(Rough quote) 'As long as we accept bat-shit crazy as the norm in our political system, it will be the norm.' Kinda obvious once we hear it, isn't it?

Utter bat-shit crazy in American politics appeared (?as a strategy? ?as a job requirement? ?both? certainly, one would have to be bat-shit insane to support these 'policies') with Bush V-2 and continues from there... Isn't now a good time to stop, yet? If not now, when? The Overton Window has incrementally moved far past the crazy-house and look-see what's crawling out at us from there... It's amusing, and very revealing, that she (Debbie) has to qualify the word "progressive" with the word "sane" in front of it -- clearly to distinguish herself from all the insane progressives.

It seems that today, most people define themselves as "liberal" or progressive not based on any substantive economic or foreign policy framework -- but only by the litmus test of subscribing to "politically correct" behavior, and support of abortions, and the great right for a male to pee in a woman's toilet. This is what "liberalism" has been dumbed down, and reduced to. The most extreme right-wing, corporatists and warmongers are characterized as "moderate" or left simply for their agreement to those matters.

Let the deprogramming begin!!

No the issue is NOT "the great right for a male to pee in a woman's toilet" - and only lamebrained Reich-wingnuts phrase it that way, so beware!

The issue is the right to self-definition, which is a fuck of a lot more basic. Please, PLEASE read that heartbreaking essay on the five-year-old who is being denied that right (AND any contact with their family!) on religious(!) grounds. Then ask yourself, "what if that was your child?"

It's not nearly as urgent as climate change, or avoiding war with Russia, or economic justice - but it's another symptom of the whole lethal syndrome of asserting absolute control over everything and everyone.

Two million Iraqis dead, the Middle East in Flames, the US MIC ascendant, US freedoms curtailed, total information state (your information that is). Obama and the Dems in Congress stepped right in and continued the W legacy .. with vigor. The business of State has never been bigger, more powerful and more lethal than today, except in past times of real war.

Their only hitch is that the Republicans are ascendant, not them. The recent NBC/WSJ poll gives the Republican Party higher approval ratings than the Democrat Party, although both are pretty much disliked by the American public.

The MSM and the Democrats are continuing with their policy of making irrelevant issues their primary focus, thereby allowing Trump to bash the hell our of them and do what he wants with his own issues. Hard to believe that W is being resurrected by the Ds. This provides an irrelevant issue in which Trump can be on the right side of this. And he is doing this by reminding the electorate that he did not believe the story to the buildup of the Iraq war and opposed the war. Talk about irony.

Please remember that Mike Pence is the Dominionist candidate. So the "plus 7" can easily be explained by a few Dominionistic preachers Trumping up support for him in the hopes of an eventual impeachment and takeover. (Xenu deliver us!)

@thanatokephaloides I think it's also b/c he's kept a fairly low profile. A lot of people don't know he's a Dominionist, or don't know what that means.

According to Oxford Dictionaries, the use of Democrat rather than the adjective Democratic

is in keeping with a longstanding tradition among Republicans of dropping the –ic in order to maintain a distinction from the broader, positive associations of the adjective democratic with democracy and egalitarianism.[5]

The Oxford English Dictionary says the term was used by the London press as a synonym for the more common "Democratic Party" in 1890:

and

Addressing a gathering of Michigan Republicans in 1889, New Hampshire Republican Congressman Jacob H. Gallinger said:

The great Democrat party, laying down the sceptre of power in 1860, after ruling this country under free trade for a quarter of a century, left our treasury bankrupt, and gave as a legacy to the Republican party, a gigantic rebellion and a treasury without a single dollar of money in it.[10]

and

Language expert Roy Copperud said it was used by Republicans who disliked the implication that 'Democratic Party' implied to listeners that Democrats had "are somehow the anointed custodians of the concept of democracy"

I think that we on the Real Left (sm) are more than justified in using the spelling "Democrat Party" given the current and historical context of its usage.

Poll after poll indicates that the Democrat Party is at odds with the views on issues of the people of the United States of America, e.g. $15/hr minimum wage. Which party had a more "Democratic" primary? If they don't like the term Democrat Party then they damn well better earn the adjective "Democratic".

Capitalism has always been the rule of the people by the oligarchs. You only have two choices, eliminate them or restrict their power.

Right now they not only don't deserve the "ic", they don't deserve the "c". They may deserve an interpolated "n", when they're really bad/stupid/evil.

Please understand that many of us here ARE NOT DEMOCRATS(TM) and have no investment in the (D) party. If, when, and to the extent that they want the same goals, they'll get cooperation - when and to the extent that they want opposite goals, they'll get opposition.

Actually, I don't get why such an undemocratic bunch get to call themselves the 'Democratic Party' at all. I think they should have to turn the name in and go for something descriptive like the ForSale HiBidder Party. The Republican Party, on the other hand, has long been bananas, so I'd suspect that their name is probably accurate, because in their current incarnation, they do indeed stand for an American banana Republic. Although you'd kinda expect an elephant to work for peanuts...

out was the way our language has been purposely crippled by these bozos. The Bush yahoos would insult people by calling/spelling Democrat Party instead of Democratic Party. That linguistical typo was deliberate. The result? Slime molds like Steve Bannon and Betsy Bitch DeVos now hold tremendous positions of power. You gotta be kiddin' me!

If the (D) party hadn't rolled over and played dead whenever the (R)s steamrollered another objectionable policy through Congress - if they hadn't crawled to the right after the (R)s whining "Me too, me too" - if they hadn't snarled at, bitten, and driven away everyone who wasn't willing to go along with their shit - no amount of namecalling would have made any difference.

@orlbucfan the wiki calls it an epithet of course.

The term has been used in negative or hostile fashion by conservative commentators and members of the Republican Party in party platforms, partisan speeches and press releases since at least 1940.

Needs an update to include more bold groups now I think. Speaking to Ds directly, grow up already! Why is name-calling even considered an adult issue in 2017? WTF? Argh! As if there aren't real problems killing people right this minute, for lack of attention. More idioms less idiots please. Thanks.

Sticks and stones may break my bones (but words will never hurt me).
That idiom needs an update excepting social media, in my view. More exits needed. heh

There is a big difference between the 1933 German demonstrations and the 2016/7 American anti Trump demonstrations. The American resistance to Trump has serious involvement by the American fascists (called now "neoliberals") Trump has been equated with Hitler, or by more astute critics as more like Mussolini, but really it is the Democratic Party (the "Clinton Machine") that is really like the Italian fascists.

It was pretty disgusting to see democrats embracing such people as Kissinger and neocons who endorsed Clinton. These people were pimp'ed as paragon's of wisdom. As with Hillary, they were re-invented into people they were not just to make them acceptable.

This goes to Cornell West's assertion that the democratic party cannot be reformed as it lacks moral integrity. He said this in an interview with Democracy Now after his experience with the Platform Committee. West is right.

Ellen Degeneres and George W. Bush chatting together so supportively is that seeing is believing. So it's like seeing the photographs of the Duke of Windsor chumming with Hitler. Now you know.

What makes me sick about this particular Degeneres visit with Bush is that two masks are torn off; hers, of course, so that now we know wealthy celebrities with perceived credentials as progressives are just wealthy celebrities; and his, because he was supposed to be a dunce, which now we know he is not. This is the most clear-thinking and focused I've ever seen him, and so his mask as a somewhat disabled fool is gone, and I see him as more evil than impaired. His dumb act is over.

It's so disturbing. I have been struggling, as so many of you seem to have been, with the immediate brain washing of so many supporters of Hillary Clinton with this Putin thing. It stuns me. I think of so many Americans being criminally ignorant of history. But with this interview comes a realization that wealthy liberals are possibly just cold-blooded, just disinterested in war because it's boring and distasteful.

I have to confess, that in the case of these two persons I have had another odd interest. I have seen photographs of their homes, and in each case I really liked their sense of design. Ellen Degeneres is a designer who is famous for buying and selling numerous houses. Here's one.

And George W. Bush has a home in Crawford, TX, which I admire for its understated, down-to-earth simplicity, pictured here.

If you had this much stuff and so many friends to entertain, you might not have time to think about these little guys.

analysist and early psycholinguistics back in 1980. The manipulation of language is nothing new. Our language has been perverted for decades. Example: misinformation is just another fancy term for lies. Campaign contributions are another smoke and mirrors term for bribes. I probably should write a diary to explain it better. I'm just not a diary writer though.
