I had a dream tonight that told me discussions on this blog

go nutty and that's why I am leaving you alone for a while. This blog is beyond my paygrade. Thanks for being kind to me. I will always be kind to the EB too. Get some rest, friends. There will be another life beyond "the Presidents", old ones and curren ones. Thank God, life goes on. Bye.

Worth reading. Especially the last paragraph.

Periods of withdrawal are restorative. I didn't post or comment for about a month recently, although not due to any issues with this site; it was the holidays, I had a lot of stuff going on, I was interested in doing some things I had neglected IRL, etc.

But, when I did feel the need to discuss current events again, I came back here to my own internet "safe space", where at the minimum, I think I'll find some decent conversation, insights and information that doesn't have to pass through a sieve of political correctness or run by a gauntlet of Party protectionists.

I've never dreamed about a website and would probably ascribe it to "an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of underdone potato."

I like the fact that c99p has actually become a "safe space" for real discussions, unlike the discussion-killing "safe spaces" that a lot of Admins try to force into existence!

Or, more likely, a mushroom or three of un-authorized taxonomy.....

Trump did not come from nowhere. Just like a fungus, the ground has to have the right conditions. It takes a long time for the mycelium to grow and spread, hidden and unnoticed in the dark, absorbing nutrients, until the fruiting body suddenly sprouts from the ground, fully formed as if from nowhere.

Trump is the fruiting body of a fungus called neoliberalism. This fungus, first known as the Washington Consensus, was deliberately and forcefully injected into foreign nations all around the globe in order to pillage their resources, both labor and material - many times under force of arms. The disease eventually returned to its source and infected its mother country. America, the land of rotting, unfettered capitalism was well prepared for the fungus to thrive.

In the Chris Hedges article you posted, there is a link to

Neoliberalism – the ideology at the root of all our problems
...
Perhaps the most dangerous impact of neoliberalism is not the economic crises it has caused, but the political crisis. As the domain of the state is reduced, our ability to change the course of our lives through voting also contracts. Instead, neoliberal theory asserts, people can exercise choice through spending. But some have more to spend than others: in the great consumer or shareholder democracy, votes are not equally distributed. The result is a disempowerment of the poor and middle. As parties of the right and former left adopt similar neoliberal policies, disempowerment turns to disenfranchisement. Large numbers of people have been shed from politics.

Chris Hedges remarks that “fascist movements build their base not from the politically active but the politically inactive, the ‘losers’ who feel, often correctly, they have no voice or role to play in the political establishment”. When political debate no longer speaks to us, people become responsive instead to slogans, symbols and sensation. To the admirers of Trump, for example, facts and arguments appear irrelevant.

I am building raised beds and planting things . . . flowers and veggies.

That is my response to the madness.

Although, I will continue to write letters to make sure someone is testing the groundwater in north Iowa where there was the giant diesel oil spill (140,000 gallons equal to 15 1/2 tanker trucks). It happened about 5 miles from my family farm where my elderly sister still lives.

Good article. Thanks mimi. Smile

I dont see why you cant do both things at once: scream at the TV and coddle a garden. Been doing it all my life. I for one am feeling not depressed but really energized by watching people finally wake up and act. And i have to say that one of the readons i love and support this site is the Evening Blues, which many nights has sent me down a meandering trail of music which occasionally magically ends up far away from the Mississippi delta.

Time to begin seed starting. It appears that my two geraniums have gone beyond. Three plants exposed to cold, parasites. Meaning bugs.

Stay well, mimi. Come back to peek on occasion.

I will miss your perspective from Germany, but understand the need to escape the Stone Heart and sick mind of America. Hope you'll pop in to say hey and let us know how you're doing every now and then.

Wishing you the best, and hoping your stay in Germany is rewarding.

and always "peek" in. There is no escape ... and I want to live in the US with my son, secure and peacefully on the fruits of our own labor. I look forward to the day when this will happen. Thanks.

I have yet to read the Hedges essay, but I have never been disappointed by his work. I did not realize you live in Germany. I use to live there and often wish I'd never moved home to this f*cked up country. Like others have said above, I need to get a vegetable garden going in my backyard. There is something really restorative about working with your hands in soil, seeing the fruits of your labor. Take care.

The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?

If thoughts can do that to water, IMAGINE what they could do to us

Woo! Too sensitive like a boiling frog is how it feels sometimes, too connected or something like that. Ha ha it reminds me of a star trek episode where first heard "useless bag of water" describing humans. I had a recent dream it was about facebook eating everything in site, including this blog, and I had to run a little ryobi press again to print communications for the town. There is an ancient printing press in the window of our paper's office, that's my lint trap material. Word.

Mimi, this site is emphatically not "above your pay grade". Your contributions, which are many, are well thought out and quite valuable. In many cases, your European viewpoint is unique here, and I for one would seriously hate to see it go away. So an hearty danke schöen for all of those efforts!

I can understand you wanting a break, but bitte do not leave us once and for all. And I daresay that you will be missed while you aren't actively posting.
