Hey, it's songday. Today I pick a song that I believe warrants it and publish an assortment of the covers of that song by various persons and or groups. Pick a few that are new to you and have a listen. It is also, of course, an open thread to talk about anything you feel like.
Today's song is: Tell Mama (Daddy)
Clarence Carter - Tell Daddy
Etta James
Patrick Samson Set
The Soul Survivors - Tell Daddy
Martha Velez
Janice Joplin
Keri Leigh & The Blue Devils
Tedeschi - Trucks Band with Sharon Jones

Sat AM OT
Any chance you could work this into your title in the future so everyone will recognize it as the Morning OT? At least the banner perhaps? The consistency would be nice.
We all thank you for the music and donating your music diary to be the new Saturday morning OT.

Thanks for reading and for the suggestion. I already
incorporated that into the new ones created after we decided to make it the morning thread, I'll have to edit the rest as soon as I get time. Still need to do one more for vacation coverage first.
That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --
Yesterday WVBR (see left column) did several hours of retread
covers. Interesting. And that was from one of the DJs (CJs, DJs????) who is post-millennial, a current student at Cornell.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
I find it hard to resist the temptation, frequent questions
that occur unbidden in what substitutes for my mind include
Who did the original,
Who did the one using (some instrument),
Who did that one that I really liked,
Who did that really uptempo (downtempo) version,
Didn't Muddy (Dion) do this.
We won't even get into "I wonder if Garcia/Clapton/The Stones ever did this"
etc.

Not exactly appropriate, no covers done but this is viral
and the goats don't care.

Oh, to be
a humble goat herder.

Good Day Sir
Your non-conformance is appreciated by some. Everytime I use an alternate banner, I get conformed.
The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. - Friedrich Nietzsche -
Thanks, Tim. Nonconformity used to be my middle name,
but this is simply a conversion glitch.

Heh
I am just pissy today. I will have to watch my Ps and Qs, because my mood is leaking into comments. You may notice, elsewhere.

Meh, call outs can be called out on the same theory that
call outs may be called in the first place. I would not have named names, but that's simply my style, keep personalities out of it unless they are relevant. It happens to be part of what separates (or at least once separated) legitimate press from tabloids, and certain professionals from others.
But, frankly, who gives a shit.

Thanks for dropping by and for contributing.
BTW, it's an open thread, so everything is appropriate, dem's da rulez.

I had a ready source of stone, to dry-lay for mine. But filled with tree offerings from self-trim it never got burned in 2016 due to burning bans locally. My trees keep offering. The drought will officially be over soon. 1/14/2017, Ithaca. No snow on ground. Just flat leaves. Wet.

Now I'll listen to your selections. Thanks for a nice interlude.
Thanks, and thanks for dropping in.

Hands down ...
Janis Joplin.
Tedeschi - Trucks Band with Sharon Jones is not bad either.
Wish I had some tequila right now!
