but it's pretty simple compared to recovering from a hacked email account and the damage that can be done with identity theft. Read the "read about it" you linked to and followed the link to the "ivebeenpawned" search database and found data breaches including our two primary email accounts.
The pfishing with a fake gmail sign-in is pretty sneaky. On a computer I know how to hover and examine a link before clicking, but on my iPad I don't know if that's even possible.
Thanks for the heads up and the motivation to get with periodic password changes!

To see where you're clicking: Instead of tapping the link, put your finger on it and hold. A widget pops up that gives you a choice of "open link / open in a new tab / copy link". At the top of the widget it shows the expanded URL (web address).
I'm sure the new iPads do similar.

it is impossible for me to "log in" a second time if someone sends this phishing routine to me. I never use a browser to access my gmail account while using my iPad.
This is timely! Twice now today, as I go into Outlook, before getting through there, I've had a page saying that Google wants me to verify that my contact phone number is still current. Would anyone know whether my clicking the 'remind me later' thingy be likely to have caused any problems?

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.
A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.
By logging into Google direct in a browser, and yes the phone is something they typically would want for recovery purposes...
Not really necessary I've been reminding me later for years...
It seems as though I have many more Google Accounts than I have phones...

Thanks! I was logged in both times, so would I want to log in again and then look for a Google site? queries the computer illiterate.
I don't actually have a phone and when I was having my Outlook recovered (edit: after receiving a notice that someone had tried to change my account to some unknown phone number and to contact them - end of edit - did look on the internet myself for an official Microsoft help place, btw,) a couple of years back, I had to give someone else's number for them to text me back the code to get back in, lol. Just good luck that someone having a phone (and, like myself, doing no internet financial transactions) and willing to do this was here at the time. But the help page had no area in which to state that there was no phone to have any number/texting ability for this... and I quit using Yahoo years ago, so no back-up email either.

I have a shortcut to get beyond Yahoo News front page, another source of fake news. Manufactured news is more like it, direct your eyes HERE. But my gmail site is linked, almost never look at that now.
My cellphone is linked to some, never in hand, I get Pings on it. Also show on desktop. I do malware scans weekly at least. Other malware programs are incoming, offering to remove the malware program. So I guess I am under a bot attack. Ignore and Just Say No. I may be incorrect.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
Thanks! Scared to do anything with all of the scams and things and very grateful for advice!
I haven't had another request for verification since the two yesterday, so it may be legit, lol. I get a ton of 'please give us your info, there's a problem' emails for things I've never even used or haven't used in years and they're pretty persistent, but if this should be official, I don't want to lose my Outlook over that, either, lol. But I obviously wouldn't want to borrow the phone number of anyone who might do online financial stuff for any potential scam!

On an iPhone you can touch (select) the address line
to get it to display the whole address. Otherwise it just shows part of it. Probably an iPad works the same way.
I have an old iPad
