You know what that commission recommended as a strategy?
Quantitative numbers will not defeat the terrorists and insurgents; however the objectives of defeating the enemy need to be specific enough so that the public can determine whether the goals are being met. In order to defeat an insurgency one must promote a stronger ideology, value system, and security environment, than the opposition. The 9/11 Commission emphasizes the use of public diplomacy. Defeating insurgents and terrorists is not based on traditional war tactics; it encompasses a national strategic effort that employs all elements of national power.
So what did we actually do? Bombed them a whole lot more, tortured them,committed war crimes and decided that our drones could remotely murder anyone we seemed fit "cuz terrorists". When questioned about any possible crimes and mistakes, we pardoned ourselves under the terms of "Exceptionalism".
God help us if our "War on Russian Hacking" is as successful as our "War on Terror" or "War on Drugs". Only we should have back doors into every piece of technology because we are good and if that doesn't work, I'm sure Exceptionalism can be trotted out and adapted once more.

I am tempted to wonder whether a person of HRC's prominence - a person who was recently Secretary of State (something like "vice-imperator") - makes a public invocation like that without already having read the auspices, surrounded herself with allies, and contacted her clients. Is something brewing here beyond what we see standing behind the microphone?
But then I think a little about the past week. We have a president-elect treating the executive office of the republic like it was his personal fief, appointing his children to staff positions and refusing to divest his businesses; meanwhile the Republicans of the NC lege declared a super duper special session to rewrite the constitution of the state, acting not just without the consent of the governed, but in willful abrogation of their duty. While the media mongers for war against Russia Trump plots war with China, and the Administration pretends to halt construction on the DAPL even as it allows the pipeline company to continue working without a permit.
And now HRC tells us: "we are beyond normal". Well, that's for sure. Psychopathology? Or political "normal" in a state that is disintegrating under the weight of its own contradictions? Our leaders are no more insane than the society they lead - which may be a lot, come to think of it. (Time to pick up Fromm or Rollo May for some bedtime reading.)

There have been a number of moves to keep the support and align major donors. Hillary phone conference after loss. Looks like David Brock is organizing a private retreat of major donors. Reports are some donors asking WTF happened to our 1.2 billion dollar and want some answers. Tom Perez, Labor Secretary (proud of his pro-TPP work) has entered the race as the establishment candidate against Ellison (Bernie).
The message seems to be to donors: "keep giving us money we are not fuck-ups. Putin!!"
If the democratic party needs some out-of-the-box thinking, I would suggest t rich donors secretly contact Putin and ask him how to win elections as he apparently knows more about American elections than Hillary given his magically powers to sway millions of voters.

Rationalization is common
When you lose it common to rationalize it. Easier to get over the grief and depression when you can blame someone or something else. At the moment the other big one going around is voter suppression did it. Obama beat voter suppression twice. An exciting progressive who would have brought us all together under the banner of HOPE would have as well.
Actually Hillary was right years ago there really has been a vast right wing conspiracy but she knew that going in and had no plan for dealing with it. There is no shortage of scapegoats and excuses but in the end in my opinion it largely came down to Hillary being the wrong candidate for the election cycle and maybe just the wrong candidate in general. Insider with deplorable favorables and a train load of baggage in a change year cycle. Not good. When will they ever learn?
