FYI, a brave diary posted on Daily Kos by SpudDK

I urge you to consider reading it, and supporting it if you are so inclined.

"It's Time To Move On"
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/12/03/1606967/-Its-Time-To-Move-On

The place has been hopping the past few days, pushing back on the notion that Trump won because America is racist.

Some of us have been sharing our views, that the election wasn't about race, it was about class. The Democratic Party needs to own and address issues related to globalization, job loss, a living wage, universal health care, and fight for those JUST AS FIERCELY as they do for abortion, gay marriage, etc.

Here is a snippet from the diary:

First, no.

I’m going to be blunt: Democratic Party performance for labor and the middle class has been deplorable. Those of us all upset over the divide in the party need to realize that you created us.

Yes, that divide is a direct consequence of ongoing support for now failed “Third Way” and “New Democrat” neo-liberal economic policy.

Guys, it doesn’t work. I think we all need to admit that now.

Way too many Americans --a majority of Americans now, just can’t “move on.”

Why?

Failed economic policy. People aren’t getting what they need out of government, nor can they find jobs that make sense for their families.

This is a raw mess, and again, it’s time we admit that.

And before you all go and point fingers, I’ll be the first to admit to being complicit. I supported Clinton and Obama type Democrats with vigor! I totally thought incremental change would get there for everyone, and I fought against the naysayers over and over.

...until they were proved right!

It’s time to own that. This isn’t about who is evil, or stupid either. We meant well. I believe that. But about half of us today are wrong.

Thank you in advance!

her/him. But I'll never click there again if I can help it. I'll not be part of putting money in the weasel's pocket. Anyway, I'm so skeptical, when I see things like this, I think someone is gaslighting to try and get real progressives to come visit the latest conservative blog known as dailykos....

have no worries about that.
The thing about Daily Kos - It's one thing to preach to the choir, and another thing to preach elsewhere. Some of us are willing to go there to participate in a struggle about the future of the Democratic Party. That's why I go, anyway.

your choice also O&WN. Knowing what kind of "democrats" inhabit the place, I'll bet the author's "we need to own this" went over like a turd in a punchbowl? I just don't see people like that admitting they were wrong...

Actually, it went over pretty well. I was rather holding my breath, waiting for turds, but they really never came.

Kind of nice. Spud is so great though, he "keeps it real" Smile

Democratic party Daily Kos is worth saving. Otherwise we're left with C99. Not that there's anything wrong with this place. It rocks. It's just that Kos is bigger, has more Diaries, therefore more to learn. Daily Kos will recover. Eventually. And, even if it doesn't it's big enough for everyone.

I've been checking a few times since the election, and just too many people there are stuck in denial about what's wrong with both the Democrats and the system in general. I feel like I know enough of those people in real life already!

is a result of Clinton being an absolutely crap candidate across the entire country, despite all those millions of Californian votes. That's the American system, for good or ill.

I know that SpudDK does good work over on Way of the Bern, but I can't face going over to Dead State.......and the dead enders.

who aren't so rich or white fishing for social status and complements and playing off guilt in a demented social mind game of sorts. It's got worse since she lost the election.

They don't seem to understand that the Democratic Party is dangerously close to being a regional party plus a rump. They don't understand because in their world "economic struggle" just isn't a real thing. This is in aggregate, of course, as there are individuals who do understand poverty, deeply. For the most part though those folks are so wrapped up in their own upper-crust-of-the-first-world problems that they just don't get it.

I can't tell what's worse: the smug condescension Hillary supporters still display, the awe and reverence given to folks like Chris Reeves (not surprised he's on the DNC now, given how much his oversimplified, naive and childlike description of how the party works fits right into their narrative), or the stubborn stupidity that betrays a complete lack of understanding of how our government functions and elects its officers. It's the ignorant and grifters leading the ignorant over there, all the while thinking they have the inside track and the most complete understanding.

It's not salvageable, in my opinion.

elected. When I think about it, it begs the question. Is racism not a form of classism? Our very own caste system?

GOS kinda cracks me up. I pop in once in awhile just to see if the the nuttiness has subsided. It hasn't and I doubt it will. The damage is done. Same ol' same ol'. I wonder when Kos will get busted using bots to drive up his advertising numbers? That's the only way I can see to explain the declaration of unique visitors vs. the high bounce rate and short, two and a half minute view time reported by Alexa.

Oh well. You cant' fix stupid.

At least in the US. It's not like a bunch of British aristocrats hated black Africans so much they dragged them over to this continent and later accidentally discovered they could make money off their animus. It's not well known, but there were also Irish chattel slaves at the start of colonization. In both cases, the excuse for exploitation was racism, but the the motivation was purely economic.

This is not to say that modern day America doesn't have some brutal systemic injustice derived from the economic roots, but the only way to stop this stuff happening in perpetuity is to finally remove the possibility of such exploitation of anyone by anyone ever again. And that is why we have to deal with the chronic problem of economic inequality.

Is Armando still there?

I'm shocked that it didn't turn into an online lynching, as was the norm for so long.

The reason I won't go there is because Little Napoleon will get click money, and if I boycott other places because of their owners, or support for things I don't approve of, then I certainly have to do the same with regards to The Orange Skid Mark.

Hopefully, the diary is a drink of water to replace the Koolaid. It's posted here, and though I disagree with saving the Demolition Party, I upvoted it here.

FYI, I posted a comment on there in response to one posters "globalization is inevitable so just lay back and enjoy it" style posts (one of two posters defending the "trade" deals -- yes, still clueless ones exist there, and they must and should be the recipients of some decent pushback), in case anyone cares. Looking at the FP on Standing Rock and a number of other diaries I saw, maybe that place isn't quite as hopeless as it's been over these last many (interminable) months.

That person actually had the gall to tell us that the extension of the Bush Tax Cuts was a reasonable thing to do, considering the bad economy and all. OMG! THAT pushed my buttons just a wee bit, and so I left a comment back to her of my own. It begins thusly:

Do you even hear yourself? You sound like a fucking apologist for the Republicans. The Bush taxcuts were a huge windfall for the wealthy, and are one of three key contributors for our huge national debt.

You must have heard of that huge national debt, right? The one that is being used as a justification from Republicans that drastic cuts must be made to Social Security and Medicare - “Entitlement Programs” is how the R's like to refer to them – because America can long longer “afford” them. Never mind that Social Security and Medicare are both PREPAID BENEFIT PROGRAMS that workers pay into all of their fucking lives.

You actually have the gall to link to the Tax Foundation, which was debunked as a reliable source by none other than Paul Krugman? Oh, sweet Jesus.

I liked your comment, but seriously, I think that gal belongs on RedState so I think you are casting your pearls, if you know what I mean Wink
